Finding Stella is a rock band that was formed in the early 2000s in the San Francisco area. Lions Wayside Park in Pleasanton has concerts every summer and Finding Stella is a regular featured act there. The park is quite big and even when you arrive the morning of the concert, there’s a sea of blankets holding a spot to see the band. I went with my mother and a few of her friends, in which even arriving at 10 that morning to put a blanket down, we were still pretty far from the stage. Needless to say, the majority of my time was spent on the sidewalk near the stage to get the full effect of the performance. You could tell the difference between the people stationed at the back of the park, from the front. The ones sitting in the back used the …show more content…
The band consisted of the singer, pianist, drummer, and 3 bass/guitarists. The instruments were mainly all electronic. Unfortunately after their first song, they ran into some technical difficulties. It seemed as if the amplifier wasn’t connecting to all the instruments, because when they were getting that fixed, the piano player improved and sang a song to keep the crowd occupied. After the song, everything was fixed. The lead singer danced around the stage a lot and added to the rock ambiance of the show. They alternated between more of slow tempo rock songs to a more upbeat pace. One of the songs I felt as though the instruments overpowered the voice, but the majority of the songs didn't have this problem. The dynamic was more on the louder side considering it was a rock concert, but there was never a time when it was too loud or too soft. I thought they alternated between a wide range of dynamics as well. The three songs that stuck in my mind that they covered were Take Another Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin and Come Together by the Beatles. When the lead started singing Take Another Piece of My Heart, the crowd loved it and many were crowded the stage and dancing. In fact she had a similar voice to Janis Joplin. Her voice had a more rough tone to it that worked perfectly with the songs she was
During the performance there were many overtones and one fundamental tone, which deals with the timbre and tone quality. “The overtones produce additional sounds that enable us to distinguish between different instruments even when they are sounding the same pitch”(Kaemmer:60). The tone quality of the performance was very good. The music sounded evenly distributed and it was very easy to hear the sounds of the various instruments. The band played two songs and one song had a slow rhythm and the other had a faster rhythm. Rhythm means more than a basic beat (Kaemmer:65). During the performance there was a steady rhythm. Also during the performance there was a section of the song that sounded different and after about ten seconds the song goes back to its previous sound. That sound was a melody. Melodies are combination of pitches and rhythm patterns that produce a distinctive line of sound (Kaemmer:62). When the band first began to play the song started in a low tone and the music began to escalate and it reached a climax where the loudness of the performance was at its peak. Once at its peak the music began to get softer and lower. This is an example of a linear form of the performance. Linear form means a performance having a definite beginning and ending. The overall musical sound of the performance was delightful and pleasing to the ears.
Not like a first concert I attended, this show named “a night of Blues” had a little bit small and less impressive. It was not because the show was boring, but just a few people joined this show, the theater is also smaller, too.
On Friday, October 28, 2016, a co-worker and I attended Etiwanda Roadhouse located at 12583 Highland Ave, Rancho Cucamonga Ca. On this night, the band “Backstreet” was performing. This was my first time attending Etiwanda Roadhouse. They feature live music from different bands three time a week (Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) there’s no cover charge to attend. It’s a quaint place right off Highland Ave tucked right in the middle of a sub-division of single family homes. The scenery was dark; as we enter a narrow hallway of the structure, to the left there’s an area with pool tables and a L-shape bar that wrapped around the room. On the right side was the stage and a dance floor with some tables and booths for dinning. The band was schedule to play from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM. The members of the “Backstreet” band consisted of, Michael O’Conner on piano, Debra Eazell Diurba vocalists,
On April 11th, 2017 in the Louis Armstrong Theatre, I attended the GVSU “University Band”. This up-beat ensemble lasted about 90 minutes; the talented students of GVSU’s university band joined together to perform multiple different songs ranging from a Waltz to a Dixieland Jamboree. All of the songs that the band played for the audience were all well-known, popular songs that they all enjoyed. Having the opportunity to attend this concert has opened new musical paths for myself and has allowed me to enjoy and kindly critique something that I perhaps would have never had the chance to otherwise.
Gather the family and head down to Lions Wayside Park every Friday night from June 2 through August 25 and enjoy an eclectic mix of live music ranging from rock and blues to oldies, soul and Latin tunes.
The concert that I attended was a charity concert, which was organized in Boston at a local university there. The South Asian Student Union of Harvard University organized the concert. I happened to be in Boston and this particular concert was organized for benefit causes such as using the proceeds of the concert to fund a number of poverty alleviation projects in South Asia. The concert was organized in a rather big room, which had a very big podium, as well as at least 500 seats that had been placed in it. Therefore, the overall hall where this concert took place was a typical auditorium setting with seating and a stage at the front. The concert promoters talked about different cause benefits related to alleviation of poverty in South Asia and that’s why the concert was organized. The organizers also informed the audience that the musicians wore traditional clothing so that the audience members could also have a good insight and understanding of the South Asian culture. All of ticket revenues for this concert were then given to a number of charities which then would use those funds to assist the different poverty alleviation programs in the larger South Asian region.
For this assignment, I went to the Basically Beethoven Festival at the Dallas City Performance Hall. The recital was opened with a few pieces played by the rising stars Madera Wind Quintet. The main performance included Rachel McDonald on the viola, Joseph Kuipers on the cello, Grace Wollett on the violin, Scott Wollett on the oboe, and the great pianist Alex McDonald. They performed a compilation of famous composers’ masterpieces.
There were four instrument used but only 3 people playing them in this event. One person was playing the drums, one was playing the bass, and one was playing both the keyboard and some tech machine. They also had someone running a computer that was projecting a video on a screen that went with the music. There were technically 8 songs but they never ended. It was just nonstop music for about 30-45 minutes. It was kind of hard to tell when a song was somewhat ending and a new one was starting. Some beats and melodies were repeating which was helpful to tell that they were still playing the same song.
The band played songs about pollution and the
The first song was “Bring Em All In” by Scott and Whickhan, which was a style mixed with rock and country, even though Scott and Whickham fall under the genre of rock. The song’s theme was consistent throughout the performance, and the only instrumentation was a guitar and violin. There were not any huge instances of changes of loudness, yet the song seemed to be played at forte. The tonal color of the violin was at times smooth, but most of the time was harsh while the guitar had a slight harshness to it. I know Levitin made mention that music brings cohesion within groups, and “Bring Em All In” would be a song to bring people together due to its message of love (Levitin 56). That message was constant throughout the lyrics which did not vary,
Although I arrived a little late, I was able to find a cozy place at the bar close to the stage. When the band arrived they wasted no time and got ready to set up their equipment and got ready to play some music. They first connected the piano and brought out the bass. The band consisted of three members. I tried to Google names of the band members but with so many results coming up I wasn’t able to pin point which name belonged to whom. But that didn’t have any effect on what was about to happen on the stage. By getting a quick glance at the performers, two of them looked to be of Asian heritage while the bass player looked white, and more or less appeared to be the band leader as well.
On October 1, 2017, I went to The Shins concert at the Cal Coast Credit Union amphitheater at San Diego State University. On this occasion, I accompanied my brother who is a devoted fan of The Shins. I agreed to accompany him when he bought the tickets during the summer. Further, the only song I’ve heard from The Shins is “Saint Simon”, which was included in the Windows XP media player, as one of the sample songs. Moreover, we arrived at SDSU around 5 pm. We easily found parking at one of the parking structures in SDSU. If I remember correctly, they charged $15 for the parking. Upon arriving to the venue, I observed that most of the concertgoers were adults, some parents took their children to the concert as it was an all ages concert. Also,
There was also a rock band named Wavves. Their songs included instruments like the guitar, bass guitar, and drums. Three of the band members sang during the songs. It was type of indie rock, punk rock, and surf rock. The song “Way Too Much” is about the artist fighting against corporate and under circumstances we can see that music can challenge the power that big music labels have. I am not really a fan of rock, but this performance was not that bad in my opinion.
In finale, the group performed three selections – I, II, III- were a part of an album, Mountain Roads, composed by Chelsea Williamson. The first and second piece, both started off with slow tempo. The first piece started with pianist solo. As flute, and bassoon synced with the pianist, the orchestral timbre demonstrated crescendo. However, the second piece was predominantly performed by bassoon and flute, along with piano in the background. The first two selection changed my mood as if I was surrounded with trees and birds chirping. It felt peaceful. Finally, the group performed the last selection, which maintained a fast tempo throughout the musical piece. The piece started off with the piano and bassoon playing upbeat tempo, with high pitch.
Concerts contain so many sensations. The white chairs being put away, the stage getting placed back on the big black trailer piece by piece, and the quiet shuffles of the last feet leave the stadium; the stadium transforms into the purple and white stadium it once was, leaving no
