A friend and I went to the Grand Kerfuffle 2016 at the University of Utah. It was a two-day music festival held on April 22 and 23. But I only went to the one on the 22nd which was on a Friday night, unfortunately I was not able to go on the second day. The performances were by the A. Ray Olpin Student Union Building, just outside. They had food, games, and other things by the stage. We sat in front of the stage on one of the grass hills. They had a few performances when we went to it. One of the performances featured GoldFord. They blended classical music and modern styles into terrific songs of pop and soul. They sang a lot using their voices, it was a good performance. GoldFord also used guitars and drums in the songs. One of the songs was about the style that people have, and that nobody has a style like that are the same. There was also a rock band named Wavves. Their songs included instruments like the guitar, bass guitar, and drums. Three of the band members sang during the songs. It was type of indie rock, punk rock, and surf rock. The song “Way Too Much” is about the artist fighting against corporate and under circumstances we can see that music can challenge the power that big music labels have. I am not really a fan of rock, but this performance was not that bad in my opinion. …show more content…
It included female singers whose type of music was dance, indie pop, and electronic music. They are a band from Sweden, they all spoke English pretty good which was interesting. They included songs like “I Love It”, “Emergency”, and “Someone Who Can Dance”. These songs were about love and life. “Someone Who Can Dance” was about treating the weekdays like weekends. We live stressful lives, and sometimes we just need to relax and be grateful for being alive. They mainly used vocals, they used electronic instruments including the electronic
The date was December 8th, 2017, I had the pleasure of seeing the Saddleback College Jazz Combos perform at the McKinney Theater. The theater is quite large holding about 100~200 seats but seemed to offer a good acoustic balance for the combos that played. Also, one can tell that it was the holiday season by just entering the theater. It was festive as it was decorated with christmas trees with christmas lights and the front was filled with light up flower vases. Furthermore, this concert is a cumulation of different jazz students put into small groups and perform in front of an audience. This concert also showcases their efforts as a group as well as differences in skill level amongst the combos.
Since I was raised in a small, country town in Oklahoma I definitely heard my fair share of country music. For the most part I wasn’t a fan of mainstream country music because it all sounded very similar, in my opinion. I found Blue Grass music or more Folk inspired country music to be more interesting. But when I was offered the opportunity to attend a Jason Aldean concert with a few friends this semester I didn’t want to miss out. I knew what to expect going to a Jason Aldean concert and that was a lot of boots and a lot of pearl snaps, and I was definitely correct. Jason was in Oklahoma on February 5th for his “We Were Here” tour. I had never been to a country music concert before and was looking forward to the new experience.
The idea to form this group came during a benefit for the late Carl Wilson, who was the singer, record producer and co-founder of the rock band The Beach Boys.
Musical Time Period: As far as the musical time period we haven’t covered the Classical era yet in class. However, new developments such as Mozart’s daring harmonies and the rise of opera music were characteristics new to the classical era.
music as part of a quartet at radio station WGRM located on Howard Street. In memory
They wanted to stop being on the road. One member of the band Robbie Robertson talked that being on the road for more than sixteen years was too much. That is was not a place of life. The concert was The Band's farewell concert appearance. The technique of the guitars played was amazing. The guitar had an electric style where you want to play it in the air. Every solo it had given the music more of a funk to it. The group was able to play any style of music and still sounded good. Every person of the group had different backgrounds but they all gave their technique into their music. The instrument that stood out most were the electric guitars. Almost every artist that came out had a guitar with them. All the instruments the concert brought out was interesting to listen too. A harmonica being played at the same time as a guitar showed show instruments were taken as a challenge. They played it and the group gave it a rock and roll style to
The program was the American Music Journey, which was music that was played from when George Washington was president to modern day music. In the program there was a description of the ensemble, but no list of the pieces that they were going to be playing. The audience was pretty big, the auditorium was about three fourths filled. I think everyone enjoyed what was played that night. One of the bigger reactions was when the lights went out and the whole ensemble came out playing the theme to Pink Panther with lights on their instruments that would flash whenever they played a note. Once the lights started coming back on, you could see that all the members had on black sunglasses.
The band members were Steven Adler who was the drummers, Michael Andrew who was the bass, Darren Arthur who was the keyboard, William Axl Rose who was vocals, piano, Matt Sorum was drums, and Jeff Isbell was the guitar. They were an unpredictable band.
The date of the performance was on November 2, 2015. It was a jam night that anyone could go up and jam with others. However, the show started with the group performance; Jamie Kime was on lead guitar, John Ziegler was on guitar, Chris Roy was on Bass, Doug Webb was on tenor sax, and I did not get the name of the keyboard player and the
I got the chance to attend the Jazzy Stars late concert at the Acme Lounge in the Arts and Entertainment district in Miami, Florida. The band that performed was called Lemon City Trio. Lemon City Trio has three bands members that go by the names Brian Robertson, Nick Tannura, and Aaron Glueckauf. The jazz concert consisted of two sets of ten songs that lasted for about two hours. Brian Robertson played the organ, Nick Tannura played guitar, and Aaron Glueckauf played drums. This was the first live concert of any genre that I got to attend.
The band also performed "Take Me As I Am," "Wicked Soldier," "Sugar," and "Mountain." The older crowd at Summerfest seems to appreciate these 1990s bands the most, and they really are engaged throughout the entire show. Although
The night had some very special moments when Eric Bazalian joined the group to a rousing ovation for “Time After Time,” “Yeah Yeah,” and “ True Colors.” His exuberance accompanied by a infectious smile captured the fans and he blew us away on the sax, guitar and his signature melodica. We also were treated to a full night of Bob Hyman (Hooters) on guitar along with Bette Sussman on keyboards, William Whitman on bass, Scooter Warer on drums and Keith Mak on guitar. A fine band who Cindy conducted like a symphony orchestra while dancing strutting, jumping and
The concert I decided to go to was held in Valley Brewing Company. The event was called “Take 5, Jazz at the Brew”. I went to the show July 11, 2013. The group I saw didn’t have a name. It was just a group of people performing together. The concert hall was a very nice venue. It was on an extended closed off area past the common area at the bar. The area was very dim lit and was decorated very fancy and elaborate. The music that was played that night was Jazz.
The way Billie Holiday was singing was really soothing. Also it creates a image of people in an orchestra playing music at the background. The piano in the background creates a image. The music she is singing is like from a movie in a bar or at an big event. The saxophone seems to create a suspense what may happen next.
The concert was a joint concert with choir and band. The genres choir sang were church music and lullabies and band played various genres including pop, classical, and holiday music. Some songs choir sang was “The Word Was God” and “Riversong.” Band played songs such as “Phantom of the Opera,” Beethoven symphony No. 5. The instrument choir used was their voices and a piano. Band used a variety of instruments such as trumpets, trombones, tubas, French horns, clarinets, flutes, saxophones, piccolos, drums, electric basses, xylophones, tambourines, and others.
