For many years we as individuals and as a society have created and listened to various forms of music. Initially there are two ways in which music can be introduced into one's life. The first initiation is through listening to music. This can then be followed by the second initiation which is playing music. Through these initiations people are able to remember music and do not need the external influence because of memory. For example, if someone likes Mozart, they do not need to actually listen to the music because they can hear it in their own mind. The memory of music can never be fully taken away, not even from someone who has become deaf. Music has been used as a means of expression, and a way to convey feelings and emotions such as love, …show more content…
Many people have turned to exercise, better sleep habits, and their friends and families to try to reduce stress (ADAA). Listening to music is the best and safest way to reduce stress. Many people turn to drugs and alcohol when they are stressed. These forms of stress reducers can be very harmful to the body. For example, if someone is stressed and decides to smoke marijuana before they drive to work, there is impairment to the mind of the driver causing them to possibly crash. Instead of this person turning to drugs while driving, they can turn on music to reduce their stress on the way to work. When people listens to enjoyable music, they are able to forget about the stressful situations that are occurring in their life. Many are able to put themselves in another state of mind when listening to music. An altered state of mind is not as attainable through any other means. I have a personal experience with this type of stress reduction. Whenever I am feeling stressed about an exam, or an essay that is critical for my grade in a class, I listen to music to calm me down. When I listen to music, I forget about the task at hand and focus on the words of the song. When I am done listening to music I am much more productive and able to focus better on studying and writing. Many other people have told me they also experience the same benefits I do with stress reduction through music. Some people may enjoy hardcore, loud and aggressive music which can make them angry, agitated and antisocial. This can cause stress in their life because they are being influenced by the aggressive nature of the music. However, the majority of people who listen to music, do so with the intention of being soothed rather than being affected by a stress causing agent. This is obvious based on the many interactions I have had with others who appreciate listening to music. When listening to enjoyable music
Music has been enjoyed for centuries by people of different cultures, languages, and religions. It is used for general enjoyment, as an outlet for relaxation, and as an auditory distraction from the stressors of daily living.
Music can be used to describe how we feel on the inside when we ourselves can’t seem to find the words. Music has the power to help us discover ourselves or remember something we may have lost. I think Paulnack is right when he states that music can bring people together. Many people like the same genres and styles and feel something when they listen to it. Music can be found all over the world and can be related to everything around us. Music has been a part of our culture since the beginning of history, it’s constantly evolving giving each generation their on form of expression. Just by appreciating music as an art from we can make connections to those who are different from

Music has been used for entertainment, as a way to pass on stories, and as a form of artistic expressions. Each person has their own preference of music of music they like, but most people like music in some form. Music is an activity that has been partaken in for centuries. The purpose of music is to allow the expression of emotions and what individuals’ lives have brought to them. Music tends to speak louder than words, which is the reason why there are so many love songs in the world. It is a way to express yourself and your feelings. This is the reason music has the capability to show others what has occurred during that time releasing all the secrets of the world.
Music has been apart of society for thousands of years and an outlet for people's stress and other problems they may be facing. It helps the brain function and understand conditions better by breaking it down and trying to comprehend it. Music has made and is still making an impact on the lives of people all around the world. Because of its impact on peoples lives neuroscientist wanted to get to the source and have been looking at the brain to determine the exact effects of music and they can now answer the question, what effects does music have on the brain? Music, “…one of the most widely used and appealing forms of communication…”, is universal and used for different purposes (Root, 2005, p. 7). Among the uses are “…play or entertainment, which humans of all ages engage in to stimulate feelings of joy, tension, and interaction, and enrich their experiences by adding mental complexity, counteracting boredom and lethargy” (Root, 2005, p. 7). In addition, music expresses “…emotions such as love, sentiment, or anger” (Root, 2005, p. 7). Ultimately, it communicates values showing the reality of society and culture. Anyone listening to “a few records [helps] enrich [their] feelings, extend [their] sense of love or despair, and feed [their] fantasies or fire some real relationship” (Cooper & Haverkos,
Berthold Auerbach once said, “Music washes away, from the soul, the dust of everyday life”. No one really knows when music first appeared in this world, but we do know that music has been among us for a very long time. Some define music as a bunch of notes put together to make a song, but I say it is so much more than that. Music is a way to tell stories, share emotions, a way to bring people together. It is part of who we are as people. It is in our culture, our religion, and it defines us. It helps us remember the many wonderful memories from our past and helps us imagine an amazing future. So you see, it is important to make music a part of your life.
I have never met a person who stated they didn't enjoy music. Even the deaf can feel the beat and vibrations through hands and feet, if it's loud enough they might even feel it in their chest, acting as a secondary heart beating like a drum. It's fascinating, there's always some kind of connection to sound. Even when you wear a t-shirt showing an artist you like and a stranger will compliment you, or even start a conversation because you both have similar taste. It gives you something to talk about, it helps shy kids in the back of classrooms make friends, it makes connections, and can bring people together like moths to a flame. Music can make memories, it ties itself to a moment in time and replays that memory whenever it come on. A random reminder, whether it be a positive memory or negative one, it'll snap you back in time, giving you whiplash of emotion or
Music is a hands-on and emotional rollercoaster of opportunities to express moments in our lives that need to be felt. We drive about in our cars and we hear tunes of the season, played away on our radios. We have CDs and cassette tapes filled with memorabilia, back when the music was "good," as the parents may recall. Music is never-ending, and that is what I believe is the most valuable factor of it all. It doesn't matter if you can sing an Italian opera, hum in the shower, or attempt to play the recorder without sounding like a fool. What matters is that music continuously aids those in society, no matter how small the impact, or optimal stress release. (And to be blatant, I haven't met a soul who dislikes a melody of some kind or another.)
Music is defined differently for each individual. It is the universal language that speaks to us all, but in different ways. It is one of the few genres that can instantly transport a person back to the past. Music is also an art of sound which expresses ideas, thoughts, and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, and harmony. It is the design of giving structural form and rhythmic pattern to combinations of sounds produce instrumentally and vocally. To me, music brings a sense of calmness, happiness, and peacefulness. Music is the absolute bread of life because it feeds my soul.
Music; Indefinable by words alone. It is not only something you can hear but what you can feel. It is something your soul is able to reach out and touch. Music also has the power to bring us as humans, together. It is one language spoken by all cultures, sexes, races, age and religions. Music also controls our emotions; it makes us happy, sad, angry, relaxed, etc. We also can express ourselves through music. It can affect our personality.. someone who listens to classical, like Mozart or Bach, all the time is going to be smarter and more intellectual than someone who listens to rap or metal, and someone who listens to more upbeat happier music, like Ska or Swing, is more likely to
Music is an amazing thing. It brings people together in amazing ways. Music has always been something that I personally have leaned on. It’s very powerful. Music can change moods or capture how a mood feels in just a few words. It can be used as an outlet or as a gift. One might express himself/herself through a song.
As the combination of different sounds travel through out ears, we tend to connect music with certain emotions or memories. For example, to feel that adrenaline rush we select a more upbeat tone in music. If you want a relaxed mood, you listen to something nice and calm with a relaxing melody. According to an article by Mental Health Center, students at Penn State did a study on music and emotions; they showed that people’s emotions have a more positive attitude after they listened to music. Music has a great
