William Golding’s Lord of the Flies is an unforgettable journey packed with unsettling twists and turns on what society knows of human morality. The reader is shown that even an average group of schoolboys is capable of savagery. When made vulnerable to at an environment they were unaccustomed to, these kids strayed much further from their adult guidance than any reader would ever expect. This makes for a sensational and blood-tingling adventure. In this book, Golding took a third person omniscient position; Therefore, allowing him to maneuver between the characters and see the story from a variety of perspectives. Through this, the reader was able to see the thoughts and actions of several characters on a closer level. This clarified each of these characters and their personalities. He also included heavy detail in parts of the novel to appeal to the reader’s senses and emotions. A small fragment of this detail is seen in chapter three: “Now the sunlight had lifted clear of the open space and withdrawn from the sky. Darkness poured out, submerging the ways between the trees till they were dim and strange as the bottom of the sea. The candle-buds opened their wide white flowers glimmering under the light that pricked down from the first stars. Their scent spilled out into the air and took possession of the island.” (page 73) It is elements like this that allowed for developments in the plot to be not just read, but felt. Golding also added very simple symbolism that,
