“Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community (Anthony J. D'Angelo).” This quote by the singer-songwriter Anthony J. D’Angelo exemplifies the most crucial part of a community. I believe that having people who truly care about the well-being of a community is an integral piece of every single thriving community to date. At the Milwaukee School of Engineering, I think that I will be able to contribute my strengths and assets in being helpful to contribute to the MSOE community. I believe that I would be able to contribute to the MSOE community because of the many different ways I am helpful in my current community. To start with, I think that it is very important to note my membership in Key Club, Burlington Badminton Association, …show more content…
In addition to the clubs and organizations I participate in, I also independently seek community service offers. For example, I have helped organize and run my town's Halloween event, Spooky City. I took initiative and recruited a few of my friends to also help achieve the great success that this city wide event has had. Along with this, I have done a lot more community service such as highway cleanups, helping an elementary school's fair, helping festivals, and much more. Community service is a very important part of any successful community, and along with my strength and familiarity in community service events, there is no doubt that I would be able to contribute to any new community. Along with helping via community service, I am also very helpful inside the classroom. In my math and science classes I am able to help my peers understand difficult concepts through thorough explanations. For example, in my classroom communities in my AP Calculus and AP Physics 1 classes, I am known as the “go-to guy” for assistance. These classes, along with many of my past classes, have greatly benefitted from my strengths in knowledge, and easy to understand explanations. For example, I have organized study sessions, helped during work time, and used almost all of my study halls helping
I believe in contributing to the community. I am a member of the National Honor Society and we do volunteer work for the school and through the community. It seems every other week there is an opportunity to volunteer in which I am eager to take part. In addition, as a Third Party Representative for a civics class called Project 18, I spend at least two hours a week emailing and calling potential guest speakers and creating PowerPoint slideshows that I will present. .
During my volunteer hours I learned a lot about my own community I that I have not been able to experience. For example I have never been able to participate in so many writing programs and workshops in my local high school, this is because I also did not attend my own local high school because my mother did not allow me to instead, she asked me to attend a charter school. By partnering with LA826, I was able to attend different writing workshops where I would help different high school student write essay, cover letters, and personal statements. Furthermore I believed that most of my activities consisted of just being able to listen to some of the students.
In regard to community, I have volunteered for my clubs, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), BPA (Business Professionals of America), NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), Cross Country and others. From helping the club itself to representing the club through charitable acts, such as making christmas a little better for military families, or helping at assisted living centers. My parents taught me at a young age how to be a considerate
This past summer I participated in Camp Holy Cross where I donated my time ad counseled kids from eight to three each day. I worked in the field thus I had to set up games, instruct them and take care of the kids while they were there. Another event I participated in with my church was the soup kitchen. This is where members of the Church’s youth group get together and put on a dinner. I also participated in the crop walk. This is where we collect donations to fight hunger and then walk six miles around Dalton. Therefore my community service shows how I give back, and another reason why I should be
As a second year National Honor Society student, the last couple of years I have been more focused on ways I can help my community to help get all my service hours in for the end of my high school NHS career. I’ve always loved doing little things to help someone who needs it but I never thought about the things that I do everyday count just as much as the other things. Community service to me, is more than just holding the door open for someone, picking up trash, or helping someone with their groceries. I want to help people grow and be a better person while serving my community. I want to do more than volunteer, I want to impact the lives of people and I feel that is what I have done.
I am a member of National Honor Society. We volunteer and help people in anyway we can. So far I have about 20 hrs of community service. I helped my teacher moved everything in his class during the summer. I helped an old woman raked leaves in her backyard. I volunteered to assist my high school's registration. I lend a hand to elementary school children and basically played and watched them. I assisted a youth wrestling tournament. There are many more services in which I hoped to help out.
Due to my involvement in my school, I have a plethora of opportunities that affect my community. As a member of the National Honor Society, we stay involved in activities that benefit our chapter and Walkerton itself. For instance, we annually undergo a food drive at our school in order to supply food for the people in the community. Then we transport the food to the food pantry and once every month we take turns to distribute the food to the people who need it. This distribution we do for the community aids the people in need as most people receiving the food are unable to transport the food themselves. Alongside the food drives, I spend hours of volunteering for concessions, tutoring students after school, and aiding for the band teacher.
I am a graduating senior who shows civic-mindedness by volunteering at my local YMCA. I believe by helping the younger generation, it helps me to develop the skills that will be essential in my future. In continuation, these skills will have a big impact on my profession career.
During my junior year, I have been able to get out of my comfort zone. Since, I am heavily focused on my academics, I decided to try to get involved in extracurricular activities and volunteering. I have been a link crew club member for almost two years and been heavily involved. I volunteered with them in some events such as freshman orientation and homecoming games. I became secretary of the link crew club the second year. Being secretary of a club has been one of the greatest accomplishments currently. I have been an active participant in the medical academy club this year. Also, I’ve joined interact club, which is amazing for community service opportunities. I’ve volunteered in a non-kill cat shelter during my freshman year. It was a
I solely joined Students of Service and FBLA during my freshmen and sophomore years to return to my community. Trident Robotics has also given me an opportunity to further extend my community service. I have volunteered at food banks, food pantries, book banks, and made an important effort to engage kids into engineering over my high school career. I have done so through FMSC, NIFB, Warren Newport Public Library, Bernie’s book bank etc. This was done not because of requirements, but because I love helping people, especially those that are special or underprivileged. And in doing so, I also feel better as a person because I am not only helping my community, but also helping many others at a global
Giving back hold a high part of my life and special part in my heart. I've always been told if I can give back, do. Thus, throughout my life, I have participated in many community service projects and activities. With this being instilled in me at a young age, as a grew older I knew to keep this lesson as moral. I took this with me through all walks of life and with me to Morehouse College. Upon my first few days on campus, I came into contact with many different people and became involved in a few social clubs on campus. Do Better and Lytehouse, are two of those, just name a few. What leads me to want to join these groups where there involvement with self-improvement and community service around campus. In these group, we participate in plenty
With my large service background, I hadn't done any community service since this past summer with the STEP Program. Coincidently, earlier this semester I unintentionally enrolled into a community based service class. I then would have to select a nonprofit organization to do fifteen hours of service and later create a service project. Reviewing the organizations I had to choose between, I was not overly enthused as none of the organizations called out to me and I would have to do a lot of work with them. My choices narrowed because of my schedule, availability, locations, and other various conditions. Having to determine which service cause was the lesser of the two evils based off of my personal interests. I found myself choosing to work with
Since middle school, I’ve hadn't been the type of person that's into sports or clubs as much as the other students my age have been but I am the type of person that seeks opportunities to help out my community. I have volunteered in many locations starting from food banks, teaching at an elementary summer program, church on Saturdays, working the front desk at an organization, babysitting, the sheriff's department and some other small duties. From all of these, I have gained new skills that have been useful or will be in the future some day. For instance working with the sheriff’s department has taught me multiple skill on working the front desk and mainly improving my communication skills. In college communicating is very important since
Instead of kicking students out of schools making it easier for us, I will bring in recent graduates to speak. I will make sure everyone from high school leaves with a diploma in their hand with integrity. I will make change in our neighborhoods by showing an example for others around me. Helping others is more important to me, than looking away and I will start a Arrive To Strive group for our community. The Arrive To Strive group will be able to build, repair, and clean to support the neighborhood. It is major to me that our neighborhood look its finest. If you need help fixing or finding a place to stay, we will be glad to help with that as well. By us doing these things, we will have a stronger community. The community we live in is beautiful, especially since everyone’s uniqueness contributes to its beauty. The unique souls in Benton Harbor are filled with amazing ideas such as painting the world a better picture. Let's do this with Joy, Honor, and
Something I have done to better my community is by using my spare time to volunteer my skill set in different parts of the community. In my time helping my community I spent time with Beautify Chula Vista in which I helped, along with other volunteers, to clean up a portion of the community by picking up trash along the roads as well as the houses, also cleaning graffiti along the assigned area. I did this once a year for three years knowing that I was able to help make the community a better place. Along with cleaning up the community I also was able to volunteer at The Boys and Girls Club where I helped to tutor the children of the community in their academic struggles by doing this, I know that these students will have been able to obtain
