Macbeth Character Analysis

William Shakespeare`s Macbeth tells audience a play of murders and sleepless nights. Macbeth is the thane of Glamis and a mighty general of Scotland. Macbeth is predicted to be the king of Scotland. However, the King of Scotland,King Duncan, is alive and is a good king to not to be murder by his people. Macbeth kills King Duncan and he becomes king with the fear of everyone killing him. Therefore, he kills anyone that is suspect to kill him. Macbeth becomes progressively more evil as the play continues.

Macbeth is a play about a Scottish general (Macbeth) who receives a prophacy from three witches that states that one day, he wil become the king of Scotland. This makes Macbeth power hungry so he decides to murder the current king of Scotland, Duncan. As people grow more and more suspicious of who killed Duncan, Macbeth is forced to commit more murders in order to protect himself from being exposed. This leads to him becoming filled with paranoia and guilt, which ultimately is his major downfall. Shakespeare wrote this play in 1606 to make people realize that excessive ambition can have terrible consequences. Both the play and the movie incorporate murders into telling the story of Macbeth, but they do so in different ways.

In the beginning, Macbeth has great trouble with the concept of murder, and he regrets killing Duncan - "Wake Duncan with thoust knocking, I would thou couldst"(II.ii.96)!  However, by the end of the play, Macbeth shows no sign of his human qualities. He has in fact become quite inhuman and foul.

Macbeth’s ambitious ways takes over his whole inner self throughout his time of first wanting to be king. Macbeth was thought to be a great leader and war hero before he was king. Macbeth was hatched an idea by three suspicious witches in whom he had never come in contact with before. They told him that he would one day become King of Scotland. After the witches disappeared, he got to think a lot about what they told him and pondered the words they spoke. Macbeth sends a letter to his wife about his feelings of what he had heard. When Macbeth returned back to his castle his wife wanted to lead him down a dark path and feed his ambition. Macbeth decides he wants to go after the crown after consulting his wife. "I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself, and falls on th'other...." When it comes to power, Macbeth won't let anyone or anything stand in his way to achieve his goal. His first victim to obtain his “success” is the King of Scotland, King Duncan. After letting himself be manipulated by the Three witches predictions, Macbeth and his wife ; Lady Macbeth, make a plan to kill the King. They invite him to their house where Macbeth kills Duncan in his sleep. Many would think Macbeth would remain loyal to his King, but his desire for power is so grand that not even killing the most worshiped man in Scotland scared him.

In the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, he delivers a story about a regicide in Scotland that is committed by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Macbeth is considered to be a brave commander who leads victories for Scotland. Yet after receiving the prophecy of him being the future king, the hero is pushed to a position where his inner foul becomes stronger than fair. Persuaded by both vanity and the prophecy, Macbeth and his wife decides to murder the king Duncan to gain more control over the country. However, both Macbeth’s family and the country of Scotland falls apart as the murder goes on.

In the story Macbeth, the main character was known as a hero of war. One day as he was walking , 3 witches approached him and gave him a prophecy,telling him, he’d be king. At the time,Scotland was being ruled by a man named Duncan . When Macbeth told his wife, Lady Macbeth about the prophecy , she gave him the idea to kill Duncan. After killing Duncan, Macbeth became extremely paranoid and guilty.

Macbeth’s fate is to be king, but with free will, he decides to murder Duncan to get to the throne. Instead of letting fate decide when Duncan will ultimately die, Macbeth, with the help of his wife, decides to rush fate and murder him in order to be crowned sooner. Once Macbeth finds out that King Duncan has made Malcolm the Prince of Cumberland, he begins having murderous thoughts (Macbeth 1.5.48-53). After discussing the matter with his wife, Lady Macbeth, she finally convinces him to murder the king. This is of significance to the play because it shows the beginning of Macbeth’s conversion to evil with each murder and lie. In an article it states

Shakespeare characterizes the main character Macbeth as the tragic hero. Witches come to Macbeth and Banquo and chant “All Hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter”. Macbeth is not king but the thane of Cawdor, respected by King Duncan. Duncan treats both Macbeth and lady Macbeth well out of pure kindness of his heart. Even though Duncan was a great host to lady Macbeth, the power of greed overcomes them and they still insist to kill Duncan to obtain the crown. The play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare highlights the unfortunate demise of a hero due to Macbeth’s ambition and want for the crown. The witches and Lady Macbeth play a heavy role in his decision to kill King Duncan. After the assisted murder of the King Macbeth continues to create blood shed becoming anxious that everyone around him is plotting against him. This leads to more unnecessary murders and the deterioration of Macbeth’s sanity. Shakespeare uses the Witches to play a partial role in the tragic downfall of the hero Macbeth displayed through dialogue.

Macbeth's true character is revealed in his thougths. Macbeth expresses these thoughts when he is thinking to himself "If chance will haveme King. Why,chance may crown me wihout my stir."(I,iii,143-144). But The thought of murdering the King, or anyone, fills him with horror, and this is why he writes to Lady Macbeth, seeking her support.After the support of Lady Macbeth and with the meeting with the witches eventually does kill his King.

In the tragic Macbeth play, a battle takes place in Scotland. Macbeth leads his soldiers to victory so he sets out on a journey back home after winning the battle. On his way, back he comes across three witches tell Macbeth he will become the Thane of Cawdor and the king of Scotland. Macbeth tells lady Macbeth that he will become king and she tells Macbeth to kill the king. However, at first Macbeth was loyal to king Duncan, but he becomes overcome by greed and ends up killing king Duncan. After Macbeth becomes the king it is clear he is obsessed with gaining powering and is willing to kill anyone standing in his way. Macbeth tries to avoid facing the consequences of his murder of Duncan, and while doing so he also kills Duncan’s Servants,

In the beginning of the play, Macbeth finds out through three witches’ prophecy that he is bond to become king of Scotland. When Macbeth tells his wife Lady Macbeth the news of him becoming king she becomes impatient with him not reaching the goal sooner. Lady Macbeth wants to be Queen of Scotland so desperately she tries to convince Macbeth to kill the then king, King Duncan. Instead of saying no to becoming a murderer, Macbeth decides to quicken his prophecy. In act II scene I Macbeth decides to kill King Duncan to be closer in becoming the king. When killing King Duncan, Macbeth loses some of his moral judgment through the greed of wanting to become King of Scotland.

In Shakespeare’s literature, Macbeth made bad decisions to people that trusted him. These betrayals led him to kingship and his death. In the play Macbeth needed certain things needed to happen before he could become king. When he succeeded in becoming king he had to kill his cousin Duncan whom was king at the time. Duncan trusted him tremendously due to him being family and his best and most loyal warrior.

Macbeth is the type of person that only cares about himself and doesn’t really acknowledge what happens in his surroundings. So, after some time, Macbeth murdered the king of Scotland so that he could take his place Macbeth has realized that he has gotten into something that would be hard to get out of which is killing people.
