The video and song itself is about a teenage girl played by the singer, Madonna, getting a boyfriend and getting pregnant without her overprotective father’s consent. Madonna’s father has always been close, loving and protective of his daughter, “teaching her right from wrong”. The boyfriend insists he will marry Madonna and help raise the baby, while her friends discourage her from keeping the baby. This led her to talk to her beloved father about it knowing he’d be upset. In the song it also says how Madonna was always “her daddy’s little girl”, just not a baby anymore. She says she knows what she’s doing and making a sacrifice by keeping the baby.

The extreme expression in her home such as statues of nuns and saints, statues of the Sacred Heart, and even altars have influenced her beliefs and standpoints and have sparked he controversial beliefs; she was known well for pushing the boundaries for lyrical content. Within her home, there was a horrid family tragedy. Her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer during the pregnancy with her youngest sister. The treatment was delayed until the fetus reached full term, but the disease grew too strong by then. Madonna’s mother passed on December 1, 1963, when Madonna was just 5 years old. Madonna says "I think the biggest reason I was able to express myself and not be intimidated was by not having a mother," she says. "For example, mothers teach you manners. And I absolutely did not learn any of those rules and regulations." Madonna’s father met another woman named Joan Gustafson, who later became her stepmom. Madonna was very much against her stepmother and her rules, and misbehaved around her. Madonna expressed herself as a quintessential cinderella. She rebelled against her stepmother and rejected her family’s religious beliefs, while keeping her pro-life beliefs.
