The essential of Gandhi is anthology of his life. It is separated into two parts. One as Gandhi the man and the other as the Mahatma meaning Great Soul. I was very much well interested in the readings of The Essential Gandhi. What I was most interested in was that he spoke with so much determination and compassion. His firm belief in nonviolence was presented very strongly. “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent. Gandhi believed strongly in non-violent civil disobedience, so he states that violence provides only temporary relief or satisfaction, but the pain it causes people and societies is much greater. There is so much violence in the world today and some believe you have to fight violence with violence but Gandhi was very successful with his method of not acting upon violence in such of as in a hatred way. He solely helped India become independent with his method of nonviolence. Before I read this story I knew very little details of him, but the main thing that always puzzled me, what gave Gandhi the courage to make such a difference in the world?

One of the things that made Gandhi’s nonviolent movement work is mass appeal. Mass appeal helped because people liked him, which meant more people did what he. In Document B it says “Gandhi’s body is in jail but his soul is with you. India’s prestige is in your hands. You must not use any violence under any circumstances” this quote shows that even when he was in prison, his mass appeal

He respected the law and didn't want to disrespect it. He was put in jail, yet still changed lives. So the question is, what made Gandhi's nonviolence work? There once was a law that the British passed called the salt tax. It stated that Indians were not allowed to manufacture or collect their own salt.

In 1869, Mahatma Mohandas K. Gandhi was born in India. At that time, the British had rule over India. They pushed people in India off their land and took their money from them for themselves, which was extremely cruel and unfair to the population. Then on March 18, 1921, Gandhi made a speech inside a courtroom complaining about these unjust acts. In his speech, he gives a excellent argument against the oppression in India. He uses a combination of emotional, rational, and ethical appeals to help build up his argument.

In Gandhi’s On Civil Disobedience speech he said, “ We made it clear to the government that we would never bow to the outrageous laws.” He fought for Indians in South Africa for seven years and helped India gain their independence from the British in 1947. If it was not for Gandhi who knows if India would have gain their independence. Although India did suffer from internal turmoil as religious factions fought for power, circumstances could have been much worse for people who lived in India if Gandhi did not stand up for what he believed in and did what he

This experience in his time in South Africa prepared him to lead India’s independence movement because it helped him become aware of the racial prejudice and exploitation of Indians in South Africa. By him witnessing the racial prejudice in South Africa, he then organized the Indian émigrés in order to protect their interests. As a result, Gandhi developed a basic understanding and experience on how to organize masses of people under a single goal of liberating themselves from foreign oppression that existed in both South Africa and India. This experience in addition to his knowledge on law would aid him to become a respectful leader as he took part in an active independent movement based on nonviolent

He helped India become independent from Britain. He was jailed many times and at one trial he said, “In my humble opinion, non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as is cooperation with good.” Gandhi never wanted violence, the British sometimes struck back with violence but he encouraged all Indians to remain nonviolent. Some ended up turning violent but Gandhi would only lead nonviolent movements. Martin Luther King Jr. led the civil rights movement in the United States, which fought for equal rights for the blacks in the United States. During the movement, they used civil disobedience by holding sit-ins, boycotting riding the buses, and the marches they held. There civil disobedience and protest eventually led to equal rights for black people.

Gandhi was a peaceful protester that was very defiant to the British law. The methods he used were simple, effective, and easy. He would protest in a non-violent, non-cooperated way to get more freedom from the British government. He wouldn´t have any violence against the British even though the British had really harsh laws. For example in the movie, he made every indian not work for the British.

Gandhi was a human rights activist who enacted change by peacefully protesting racial discrimination. In the article Satyagraha: Gandhi’s Legacy it says, “Gandhi developed his philosophy of ‘Satyagraha’, or resistance through non-violent civil disobedience to defend his rights and the rights of all Indians and non-whites.” Gandhi was so devoted to gaining and defending rights for his people, he dedicated his life to protesting peacefully for their rights. The article also says that although Gandhi had many goals including: protesting unfair taxes and oppressive discrimination, alleviating poverty, helping in the women’s liberation movement, and ending discrimination between social classes in India, his main goal was to help the Indian people

Gandhi, a man that has always been respected and admired for his stance on nonviolence, was able to spark and lead the movement to free India from the dictating rule of the British government. All because one man had the ability to stand up and question the authority of Britain on India, he was able to expand his movement from a small group of people to a large scale revolution that gained enough attention to overturn the authoritarian British government. In unifying the country of India to work together for freedom; he was able to inspire an entire nation to believe in a nonviolent revolution. Acts of disobedience that deliberately stood up against authority were able to maintain moral concepts towards humanity yet still made a statement that progressed their movement. Gandhi and his followers were imprisoned many times throughout the revolution rather than physically fight authority in order to uphold their stance on nonviolence--proof that nonviolent disobedience is effective in progressive

Even though the conditions in India seemed to require a violent resolution Gandhi stuck to his plan. Convinced a nonviolent attack was in the best interest of the Indian people he pushed forward. Protests and unrest continued throughout India as the struggle for freedom

Instead of using weapons to fight against the British army, he made statements that rallied people into protest. When the protestors did not use violence, the government had no provocation to use military force. When they attacked, they could not justify their actions afterwards. In a way, the British forces reacted temperamentally while the Indian protestors were convinced by Gandhi to remain patient and steadfast. It was not the threat of war or violence that manipulated the British authority, but it was the disobedient and uncooperative citizens that brought the nation to a standstill.

There were many way causes which led Gandhi to become a leader this is one of them. Gandhi wanted to get rid the British out of the way, without using violence at all. An example of this was when he brought all of the reporters, to India and tried to burn the passbooks.

Everyone else seems to be losing their faith in their ability to change India’s relationship with the British. Gandhi believes that through all the challenges ever faced throughout history has been won by those who believe in justice and truth. Gandhi has strong moral and knows that any challenges that comes there way will be won with fairness and just.

Mahatma Gandhi Mohandas Gandhi, known as Mahatma Gandhi. Also known as Mahatma the great soul, was the "father of modern India". He originally came from Western India, a city called Porbandar. He was born on 2nd October 1869. Gandhi was on of the youngest of the three sons of Karamchand Gandhi, who was a Prime Minister successively in Porbandar, Rajkot and Vankaner States.
