The Mayor of Casterbridge has two main themes. One theme is dissatisfaction, which is a main reason when the characters end relationships with each other. The other theme is the indelibility of the past. Some characters had long term effects when their past was learned by other characters. People were not forgiven for their past as easy in the early nineteenth as they are today. The author used these themes very well, for people to assert into their life.
Dissatisfaction is very major in The Mayor of Casterbridge because many relationships are broken and mended in the book. Those characters are dissatisfied with their current state of being, so they move on to a different stage in their life, which can lead to other relationships being repaired. The author is teaching the readers to move on, if something in their life is dissatisfying them.
One example of a character being dissatisfied is when Newson fakes his death because he knows Susan is not satisfied and wants to go back to Michael Henchard. Susan found out that she didn’t have to stay with Newson, so she wanted to go back to Henchard. Susan became unpleasant to be around, and Newson knew she wanted to go back to Henchard. On page 288, in The Mayor of Casterbridge, Newson says “ Since I’m here, here I’ll bide, I thought to myself; twill be most kindness to her, now she’s taken against me, to let her believe me lost; for, I thought while she supposes us both alive she’ll be miserable; but if she thinks me dead she’ll go back to him, and the child will have a home.” Newson faked his death to satisfy Susan and bring happiness in her life.
When Lucetta met Farfrae, she became dissatisfied with Henchard. To Lucetta, Farfrae was a younger and better version of Henchard. Lucetta was going to marry Henchard, but she knew that she should would not be happy with him. Lucetta also found out about Henchard’s past, and she was dissatisfied with the way he treated his first wife. On page 209, Lucetta says “ I learnt of the rumor that you had ⎯ sold your first wife at a fair, like a horse or cow. How could I keep my promise after hearing that?” Lucetta knew she was not going to be satisfied with Henchard if she married him, so she moved on with her life.

People read countless stories that have a variety of themes in them. When people read “Angela's Ashes” by Frank McCourt, and “The Street” by Ann Petry, they can probably sense that there is something similar among the two stories', and that's because they share a common theme. The theme is how people can persevere through problems that they encounter. The reader will discover this similar theme of persevering through problems with the way the authors utilize the character of characters feelings and personality, the way setting creates a backdrop that establishes the tone of the story, and events that cause conflict to the character.
As a result of the weak action made by Lennie, Candy and Crooks in the novel, the theme is revealed. The events that were taken place and the responses from the characters showed that they were weak and couldn’t handle situations. Weakness which cannot be improved until they are

Perdomo really paints a picture in the eyes of someone who goes through a harsh upbringing. It is evident to see that the person that he is talking about is having an internal conflict. This is noticeable by the description of the neighborhood, even though it is described to be a beautiful place it is also made out to be a very violent place that many may not survive. The author uses theme is a clear but unclear way making the reader realize that life is all about how one can perceive it weather the situation is good or bad.
Fitting with the common theme between the two novels of the judgment of others, each heroine falls victim to a horrible misjudgment of the character of another. After discovering that the engagement between her brother and her friend Isabella has been broken, Catherine finds she has grossly misjudged her friend’s character, and thinks, “She was ashamed of Isabella, ashamed of ever having loved her” (Northanger 150). Elizabeth, on the other hand, finds her attachment the Wickham wholly inappropriate after receiving her letter from Mr. Darcy. After digesting the shocking contents of the letter, Elizabeth “grew absolutely ashamed of herself.—Of neither Darcy nor Wickham could she think, without feeling that she had been blind, partial, prejudiced, absurd” (Pride 156). And indeed, as suggested by Elizabeth’s mention of Darcy, this misjudgment goes on to affect each girl’s attachment to her future husband.
To begin with, a motif I have noticed in the book is the townspeople. This is a possible motif because in chapters 5-7, the townspeople of the town Eatonville are constantly
Theme is the hidden morals within a piece of literature that the author is trying to get readers to understand. In both Angela's Ashes and The Street, we can distinguish a similar theme. One similar theme in both stories is struggling to get through life’s complications. After reading the two different excerpts, we can use character, events, and the setting to further our understanding.
The author of “Farm City”, Novella Carpenter, has written quite a good story telling her experience as a urban farmer in raising different types of animals and growing variety vegetables for daily consumption. However, I do not perceive her story as an interesting or well-written story since I encountered a few difficulties that jeopardize her credibility as a good writer. The main difficult that I encountered in her story is following her story plot since most of her story tend to go out of her main objective. For instance, in the second part of the story, the author told a story about how did she started rearing rabbit in her urban farm. The starting of her story was good because she begin the chapter by introducing the person who spark
Finally, the authors demonstrated theme by using the setting of the excerpts. To start, McCourt states ”You can look in people’s windows and see how cozy it is in their kitchens with fires glowing.” in this exerpt calles Angela’s Ashes. Angela is jelous of the way that the other families get to live a happy life, but she has to steal from the happy families in order to make her own happy. This shows how when you are not as lucky as others, you tend to do things to make youself feel better than them and you may hurt them in order to do so. Also, Petry excerpt called The Street
Many themes were portrayed in Cannery Row. These themes give the play depth and fascination. The three most significant themes thought are Loneliness, Sympathy, and Remuneration, allowing the story to reach many areas in life.
The author gave Mayor Cole an “evil” person's role, I could simply tell that when he had Lina “arrested” by his guards and thrown in jail just because she was trying to send her friend Clary a note that had information to exit City of Ember, and also how he steals all the food in the City, leaving very few food for others who are also trying to survive the awfulness.
To begin with, one major theme that continuously played a part throughout the entire book is desire. To many of the characters, it was the one urge that they could never overcome. One

Many events that take place in A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, foreshadow upcoming obstacles and give insight into the hardships of the townspeople. Symbolic events occur which describe the vengefulness of the peasants towards the aristocrats. The novel contains many events, which have symbolic value. Many of the symbols have to do with the inevitable clash between the aristocrats and peasants. These events foreshadow the war that is soon to become reality.
