Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was born in Jalapa, Veracruz Mexico, on February 21, 1794. He belongs to a “criollo” middle class family. His parents were from Spain. He was a Mexican politician and military leader who was President of Mexico eleven times from 1833 to 1855. He was president officially six times, and unofficially five more. He was also a disastrous president of Mexico because he lost Texas and much more of the current American west in the United States. However, by far he was an important figure of his generation in the Mexican history. Many people love him during his first years of president, and he was remembered for two major conflicts, the Battle of the Alamo in 1836 during the Texas Revolution, and as a restored Mexican leader during the Mexican-American War in 1847 (tshaonline.org).

“The history of more than fifty million Latinos in the United States is your history too,” Suarez stated in his book. His argument was that no matter how you see it, the Latin culture is part of your life in the US no matter what ethnicity you are. He wrote this book to let his readers learn and know about the Latino history in the territories, where it is now considered as California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. Suarez wants his readers to know that the Spanish culture has been in those areas ever since the people of Mexico City traveled North in search for gold. He reveals this by stating that the first language heard in those territories was Spanish and the earliest land titles were granted to Spanish families (Suarez). Some Americans may not believe the fact about Spain owning part of the land; however, there is evidence that supports that fact. There are literally signs around California, Texas, and etc. that demonstrates the Spanish language. Suarez states that “more Americans unwittingly speak Spanish every day, heading into a Luby’s luncheonette in El Paso, ‘the pass,’ sitting in traffic in San Diego, ‘Saint James’...” (Suarez).

The exact date of his birth is unknown, but he is thought to to have been born some time between 1470 and 1471. Pizarro was given little or no education, and he remained illiterate throughout his life. Dinaw Mengestu, Richard Rodriguez and Manuel Munoz are three authors that have been through and gone through a lot of pain to finaly get accepted in their societies. They are all either immigrants or children of immigrants that had trouble fitting in America’s society at the time. They struggled with language and their identities, beucase they were not original from the states and it was difficult for others to accept them for who they are. They all treated their problems differently an some tried to forget their old identeties and live as regulalr Americans others accepted themselves for being who they are, but they all found a way to deal with their issues.

Jose Antonio Burciaga elaborates in his essay “Tortillas” the significant of tortillas in his life and culture. In the Mexican culture tortilla becomes a big part of the Mexican food.
