Can you recall a memory from your early childhood? Did you think about the first time you fell off your bike, getting stung by a bee or your big brother teaching you how to get the football to spiral when you throw it? Can you imagine that your first memory that can come to mind is living every night in fear, the burning down of your home by the Ku Klux Klan and the “accidental” death of your father who’s head was detached from his own body? This is the only memory that comes to Malcolm Little from his childhood.
One of the most influential men of his time, not only with the black community, but also with other people of every community. His beliefs for many people are hard to understand and probably thought as if his beliefs are wrong, but until someone actually reads The Autobiography of Malcolm X, then people will not really understand the complexity of the man Malcolm X. His autobiography takes you on a tour of probably lots of black men of this time and shows all the hardships and struggles that they had to go through. Showing the misleading teachings of the honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam, and how Malcolm learns the real truth of his religion.
I believe that I, Laura Benitez, deserve the Tim Acklin Award because I always intend to exceed the expectations that are given to me. I was raised and taught that going above and beyond is the only way to work. Whether it be in schoolwork or doing simple errands, working harder and doing more than is expected is what sets me apart from others. It is very easy to become idle and to find the easy way out, but I have aimed to always push myself and become engaged with stimulating groups of people. Throughout high school, I have held multiple leadership roles and committed to different activities. I was able to maintain these extra-curriculars, athletic training, and a GPA of 4.18. Even without official leadership positions, I always strive to be a helpful leadership position at work and especially in athletic training. I remember learning many skills from upperclassmen

Through the program I gain knowledge and hands on experience for the career I will pursue, however, I also do voluntary community service which sets me apart in the aspect that I do volunteer work in helping the community and I gain knowledge on my career. The most meaningful achievement was when I attended the Phoenix Police Explorers Academy, the academy was enforced as a real police academy is. The academy lasted two weeks and was about 10-11 hours each day. Attending the academy relates to the field of study and my future goals because I was able to get an insight on how an academy is ran and gain more knowledge on how important working as a “team” is. I am a good candidate to receive this award because as a young adult I have a lot of experience in my field of study and have shown dedication in pursuing the career as being in Law Enforcement, also I have come in contact with many respectable people such as Mayor Jerry Weiers, Chief Debora Black, etc. The most significant academic achievement I have been given is the Principles Pass at Independence High School. The award was given to those who maintained good grades which will influence my goals for the future because is shows my dedication to my studies in pursuing an education in Law
Even though I do not have enough points to qualify for this award I am still going to apply, because although I may not have done as many things as others have within the building. The things I have been able to accomplish outside of the building have helped me lay the foundation for my education, career and overall life after high school.
Performance management is a tool that managers use to ensure that their companies remain at the top of their competitive edge. The Chartered Institute for Personnel Development (CIPD, 2008), defines performance management as a method by which individuals and teams are managed in a way that achieves high performance at an organisational level. The individuals within the organisation share an understanding of the achievement goals of the organisation. In order to achieve this, a general strategy is created, with each individual within the organisation understanding his or her role and requirements within such a strategy
As stated by Peter F. Drucker, “Management is about human beings. Its task is to make people capable of joint performance, to make their strengths effective and their weaknesses irrelevant.” Performance management is essential to achieving an organization 's mission statement and business goals, and also in attracting, retaining, and motivating qualified employees. There are many benefits and reasons why an organization should execute a performance management system. Performance appraisals establish the basis for qualifying, recognizing, and rewarding employee contributions. In this paper, I will discuss what performance management is, the problems with the current performance management system at my organization, how other organizations have succeeded in their performance management system and how I would advise management at my current organization to improve our performance management system.
Merriam Webster defines quality as a degree of excellence, or a distinguishing attribute. Managers strive for excellence in the workplace to improve customer satisfaction, increase the output in manufacturing while minimizing defects, as well as making the company more profitable. There are several different management systems or methodologies available for businesses to use, but the Balanced Scorecard and the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program is the most common and widely used in the United States.
