First, we don 't know "her heart" and are taught not to judge, she may have found Christ after her numerous divorces and remarriages. When we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, we are taught that our old self is gone, our sins wiped away, and we are considered as a new creation in Christ. Thankfully.
Second, you don 't "fire" an elected Official. You can hold a recall election and recall her from Office, if you wish. You can bet the next time her position comes up for election, she won 't be re-elected. Whjat justification would you have for "no pension, no retirement, no severance package"? To punish her? For what, a political or moral position you don 't agree with? You just made yourself Judge, Jury, and Executioner.
The seemingly smart thing for her to do would be to resign her office and find other work, or better yet, understand that issuing marriage licenses does not mean she condones or promotes homosexual marriage, which, like it or not, is not supported in the Bible.
I have yet to have anyone show me the book, chapter or verse where it says God blesses homosexual activities or marriage and calls it Holy. ALL the references in the Bible about homosexual activity are negative, not neutral or positive. I know that is not a popular stance, not "PC" right now, but it is a fact. I didn 't write it. I read it.
Matthew 19 or Mark 10, Leviticus 18, Romans 1, 1 Timothy, there are scores of references to homosexual behaviors in the Bible, not a one of them
Throughout history homosexuality had been seen as a sin and a punishable action. In the bible, in
Many Christians have picked out “clobber” passages or verses in the Bible that are supposed to undoubtedly condemn homosexuality. However, these fool-proof “clobber” passages have been contested, such as Leviticus 20:13, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be put upon them.” Many conservative Christians interpret this as damning homosexuality indefinitely; many liberal Christians claim it condemns gay ritual sex in a temple and males having sex in a womans bed. Another verse, Leviticus 18:22, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” Again, conservative Christians take this is as condemning evidence but progressive Christians take it as, again, a verse condemning gay ritual sex in a Pagan temple or men having sex in a woman's bed.
Christ 's teachings at the Sermon on the Mount were that the only law is the law of love. He showed this by reversing four of the Old Testament laws which conflicted with loving people. Therefore, anything that was unkind, not by mutual consent, etc. would be immoral for a Christian, but obviously not loving sexuality regardless of marital status or natural sexual orientation.
Leviticus 18 is an entire chapter written on unlawful sexual relations. Though the law was given, people did not always do as they were told. Men and women alike were punished for sexual relations with animals, adultery, incest, etc. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of the extreme sexual impurity, especially homosexual acts, that resided in
In the past ten years, the nonstop discussion and stress has been over the question of homosexuality. Are homosexuals to be excluded from the community of faith? Article writers, Richard B. Hays and Walter Wink explain their perspective and answer the ongoing talk.
Those who believe that homosexuality is wrong do so by quoting certain phrases from the Bible. For example:
County Clerk Kim Davis, of Rowan County, Kentucky, is in a difficult situation because she refuses to issue marriage licenses to homosexual couples. Herbert W. Titus and William J. Olson have written an article about why they think she is doing the right thing not just religiously, but Constitutionally as well. They outline the reasons why the stand she is taking is her only option as a Christian and as an elected official of the United States.
Though I agree with her right to express it. I just don’t believe her personal prejudices should be brought into her work for the state government. I also agree with the court to telling her she must grant marriage licenses to same sex couples. While I agree private business has the right to decide since they are not being funded by tax payers’ money and people have the ability to find other options when a private business does not agree with their morals. But when it is a government official, the public has less options. Whether or not she agrees, she has to follow the
Many Christians supports homosexuality and gay marriages. In fact, I know a few Christians who said to be homosexual. I praise them for standing up for what they believe and this demonstrates despite the fact of Christianity is seen as homophobic, there are Christians that acknowledge homosexuality. Many Christians that are homosexual still believe in the Bible and that God exists. Furthermore, in the article The Relative Importance of Ethnicity and Religion in Predicting Attitudes towards Gays and Lesbians, it expresses that Baptists and Catholics do not fundamentally contrast in their attitudes towards lesbians or gay men. For example, in the book of scriptures it expresses that God created man and woman, He saw that coupling was good and He blessed them and told them to be productive and reproduce. The Bible does make a strong qualification when it comes to marriage; it states that an individual should marry the opposite sex. Not only does the Bible, by default, deny same sex marriages, but tradition and nature prohibits it also. The idea is against every tradition known to human race and is obviously against
There has been no mention in the Bible that says anything about gays, and let's talk about the fact that Christians, Catholics, Buddhist, etc are told from scripture that they are not to judge thy neighbor. I don’t mean to get extremely political when it comes to religion but instead of letting it divide us we should unite and focus on problems within humanity. People say that unity and peace are virtually impossible when that’s simply not the truth. In truth, we could have peace if people got together, accepted differences and stop being huge jerks to each
In order to answer this question we need to establish that it is a sin to be gay and that this is what the Bible
In addition to the Story of Adam and Eve, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah is also routinely utilized to detest homosexual relationships. However, most biblical scholars employ proof-texting, “when a biblical text is cited to justify a doctrinal or ethical conclusion that is already held and reached on the basis of some reason other than the accurate interpretation of the biblical text” (Salzman, xvi) which often is not reliable because it is not the actual intent of the biblical story. Some religious followers will condemn homosexuality and sodomy due to Genesis’ alluding to where the men of Sodom said, “Where are the men who came tonight? Bring them out to us, so that we may know them.”(Genesis 19:5) These individuals will justify their claim
Homosexuality Name Institution Tutor Date Basically, the interpretation of homosexuality by the people in church has varied with some pin pointing some verses and interpreting wrongly; others denying the plain content of the verse. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah found in the book of Genesis 19, outlays the condemnation of homosexuality or the gay marriages. An insight overview of Genesis 19:4 shifts my attention to the number of people who are practicing homosexuality in Sodom. The angels prepared to lay down to rest, many men from Sodom surrounded the house of Lot demanding the Angels. This takes me by surprise as to huge number of people in the city orchestrating homosexuality.
Biblical writing tends to have strict laws about sex and sexuality and how it was expressed and universally accepted. The Pauline Epistles, or Paul’s views, had unique views on sex because he completely distrusted gender as a whole and because he believed that there would be an apocalypse. Many of Paul’s ideas were widely accepted back than because they explained may things that people could not, for instance it explains homosexuality. Today, the laws are seen differently and in some cases interpreted much more literally than they were back then. It is likely that ideas have changed either because people have become more understanding and accepting of others or because we no longer view sex and sexuality as a thing to be ashamed of. This new age of interpretation is seen in the way homosexuality is accepted today, submission of the wife to the husband in some religious dominations, and the ideal of marriage and its sexual implications.
I believe that Jesus brought up the examples of adultery to better illustrate his point.
