I decided to choose Martin Luther King Jr. as my paper topic for several reasons. First off, I would like to reiterate how important African American history is and that more knowledge of the actions, culture, laws, and life of African Americans during this time period should be taught a lot more throughout schools everywhere in my opinion. Not many people know the specific reasons why Martin Luther King Jr. had a holiday dedicated after his name for example, the actions, protests, and hardships he went through to get his voice heard. Martin Luther King Jr. was a well-known African American activist and minister who was an essential figure in the American civil rights movement from the mid-1950s until his assassination in 1968 on April 4th in Tennessee. King was born in Atlanta on January 15, 1929. King felt that equality and human rights for African Americans should be set in place, including the poor as well as the uneducated and all victims of unequal treatment through peaceful protest and nonviolent boycotts. He was the main speaker and activist behind events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1963 March on Washington, which helped bring light to legislation in the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. King was seen as a gifted student, he went segregated public school’s due to segregation laws. I found it very surprising that at the age of 15 he was admitted to Morehouse College, where both his father and maternal grandfather went, King studied medicine
