A simple man who was discriminated against his skin color believed that everyone should have equal rights. Using the rights of an individual regarding sex,race,age and religion shouldn’t matter. This man gave the “ ‘ I have a dream’ “ speech. He is a leader whose is known as Martin Luther King Jr. One quality that makes a good leader is for the responsibility for everyone around you. The civil rights leader was born Michael King Jr. on January 15, 1929. In 1934, however, his father, a pastor at Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, traveled to Germany and became inspired by the Protestant Reformation leader Martin Luther. As a result, King Sr. changed his own name as well as that of his 5-year-old son.

Martin Luther King had a dream and that dream was that he wanted his people to not get segregated by their skin color or to be judged. He wanted blacks and whites to be equal and to treat each other with respect. He once had a speech and it was called “I Have A Dream” because like I said he wanted us to be equal and fair. But his dream now impacts the African Americans because now until this day they are free and not segregated and that dream that he once had it came true, and the only reason it became true was from all his effort that he had put to his dream. Martin Luther King Jr. was a major catalyst for change when it came to the equality and social rights of African Americans, economically disadvantaged, and victims of injustice in the United States. He lived during a time when the United States was mainly segregated and African Americans weren’t treated as equals to white Americans. He lived through segregation and racism, fortunately, he was able to receive a high level of education which opened up to his mind to new ways of thinking. He was greatly influenced by his religious background, his hometown and his culture.

During the 1950’s to 1960’s racism was a major issue in the United States. Martin Luther King Jr, was an African American Civil Rights activist whom wanted to change the nations perspective on not critizing one another due to ones skin color. During this era there were many racial conflict. In 1963 Martin Luther King wrote the famous “I have a dream” speech in which he talk about an end to racism in the United States.

He skipped his sophomore and senior years of high school, and was admitted into Morehouse College at the age of fifteen. In spite of his family’s involvement in worship, King, throughout his adolescence, felt uncomfortable towards the religious emotionalism in church. Nevertheless, the Christian doctrine was dubious to King, who once told his Sunday school teacher that he didn’t believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. While studying at Morehouse, he renewed his faith under the tutelage of theologian, Benjamin E. Mays. Mays encouraged King to view Christianity as “a potential force for progressive social change,” and withal, was destined to accept his “call” to the ministry, not only to satisfy his father’s wishes, but to fulfill his service to humanity. King graduated from Morehouse with a major in sociology, and was ordained into his Father’s ministry. He continued his studies in systemic theology at the Crozer Theology Seminary institution in Pennsylvania, and years later, enrolled in a doctoral study at the University of Boston in Massachusetts, where he met the love of his life, Ms. Coretta Scott. The newlyweds married the summer of 1953, and settled in the town of Montgomery, Alabama, where King was offered the position of pastor at Dexter Avenue Baptist

Many of Martin Luther King’s dream has come true.
