Ever since 1862, there have been 3 more armories built. This is important because the more armories there are then the more weapons and vehicles they can store. The current armories building up right now was built in 1989. This is imperative because it shows that when they built their buildings they make sure they are built sturdy so that they are reliable and that they will last for a long period of time. The U.S Department of defense and citizens were proud to invest $1.6 million in the facility because of the hard work, dedication, and history. This shows that the National Guard has dedicated their service to the united states. Because of it, they were rewarded with the money. Mason city's history has been influenced by the National Guards
The 54th Massachusetts Regiment was made up of brave African American men who volunteered to fight for freedom and rights alongside the north troops in protest over slavery. This unit was a very substantial move in the war, The presence of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment changed the outcome of the war. It showed the South that the Northerners truly saw African Americans as capable for fighting.
At the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, the Continental Army had little to no artillery of their own. It was not until May 10th, 1775, when Benedict Arnold joined Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys to attack Fort Ticonderoga. The attack was small, surprising the British garrison while they slept. This was the also first American victory of the Revolutionary War, which led to the Continental Army to acquire much needed artillery that would eventually help in the Continental Army’s ability to manufacture their own cannons. The most useful piece of artillery were lightweight, which gave them the ability to easily maneuver on the battlefield by carriages, and traveled with the armies to be used as anti-personnel weapons. “Four-Forty-Second Infantry / We're the boys of Hawai'i nei / We'll fight for you / And the Red, White and Blue, And go to the front. / And back to Honolulu-lulu. / Fighting for dear old Uncle Sam / Go for broke! / HOOH! / We don't give a damn! / We'll round up the Huns / At the point of our guns, / And vict'ry will be ours! / GO FOR BROKE! / FOUR-FOUR-TWO! / GO FOR BROKE! / FOUR-FOUR-TWO! And vict'ry will be ours!” (442nd Unit Fight Song). Just as many historical songs are wont to be subjected to select refinements, the 422nd Unit Fight Song is no exception. Primitively the song had the phrases “One-Puka-Puka” in place of what is currently “Four-Forty-Second” suggesting the song was originally written for the
I have learned many lessons in my time that will help guide me through my life. However, I think one experience that will definitely stick with me forever is attending Missouri Boys State. At Boys State, our motto was, “A Week To Change A Lifetime,” and it truly was. We learned about integrity, honesty, pride, and what it means to be in the American Legion. We also learned about the political system and how our government works by making our own government.
The attack at Fort Mystic in May of 1637 is something that I will never forget. On that day, my tribe in Mystic fort was attacked by the colonists and their allies. At dawn, they approached undetected and fired at us while we were sleeping. They came in through both entrances into the fort and surrounded us. We were not prepared and had no chance to fight back from our attackers and were shot on site if we tried to leave. I was one of the few who were able to get out alive. I was captured as I made my way out of the village taken prisoner by the colonists and their allies. As I was being taken away, I saw my village being burned and knew that I would never be able to return. I also hoped that my people would not take this lightly and go after the colonists for what they have done.
Soldiers exist to fight, Men exist to love. Soldiers live in the cold, Men with whom they can protect. The first two years of the American Revolution had been cruddy for America. George Washington (The general of the Continental Army) has been having trouble keep soldiers from leaving. Had you been a soldier at Valley Forge, would you have left and gone home? I would want to leave Valley Forge because I don’t want to risk my health, live in terror, and I would want to protect loved ones.
The Massachusetts 54th was the first black regiment. It was started in 1863 in the North. Blacks were not allowed in prior to President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. But afterwards, if a black was healthy and strong, he was admitted into the army. After raising money to support a black regiment, the state of Massachusetts was ready to create a regiment. According to the Massachusetts History Society, after a call went out to blacks, 25 men responded immediately. By the end of the week, there were almost 50 more. These men, coming from all over the continent - even some from the Caribbeans - could be as young as 16 years of age, yet they were all eager to fight for their rights and the salvation of the Union. There became so many eager volunteers that Governor John Andrew got more soldiers than needed. The extra soldiers were put into the 55th Regiment.
In the spring of 1863 just two African American regiments existed, nonetheless, this had developed to sixty before the end of 1863. By 1864 this had extended to 80 more regiments. One of the first black regiments to fight for the Union Army, the 54th Massachusetts Colored Regiment, numbered no less than 1,000 officers. This all-volunteer regiment, lead by a white colonel, Robert Gould Shaw, opened the 22 month land and sea ambush on Charleston, South Carolina (Civil War). Which prompt an unsuccessful hand-to-hand assault on Fort Wagner in Charleston, this regiment occupied with a standout amongst the most popular African American activities of the Civil War and endured roughly 44 percent losses, including Colonel Shaw (Civil War). Their execution
There was this star shaped building that had buildings inside of the star. It was a star so that they could have cannons at each point facing down at the other team. Also the walls were really tall so it made it harder on the other army to get them. There was a main party at the Saw Mills further south. Then there was an advanced party at the southern end of the portage that bypassed the rapids. Uncertain where to contest the British advance Montcalm wanted to build a fortified abattis in front of the fort. On the 5th of July 1758 the British and Americans got ready to sail up to Lake George. Arriving to the north of Lake George, Howe, Rogers and Bradstreet ended up at the French positions.
Fort Monroe, Virginia, has been a major post of the U.S. Army for over 166 years. Fort Monroe is the largest stone fortication in the United States, moated and covering sixty-three acres and cost nearly two million dollars. It was the crown jewel of America’s defense and was built at a great expense following the British invasion during the War of 1812 and named after President James Monroe. Fort Monroe was a vital piece in America’s defense and history.
Discouraged with the all deaths going about and the conditions they are in, the soldiers at Valley Forge suffered throughout winter. With many leaving or dying, those who still were alive suffered through the hardships. Even while under the command of George Washington, whose position was being questioned at the time. When Washington decided to build a winter camp named Valley Forge, that's when things really started. Everything from things like the terrible conditions, health problems, and their clothing situation, the soldiers who stayed would either soon fall into the hands of death or survive with the luck on their side.
Valley Forge, a camp located in Pennsylvania, is a place where George Washington and his soldiers stayed when they were not fighting in the war. Many had a very hard time coping at the camp due to the harsh winter. On Christmas Eve of 1777, soldiers ate rice and vinegar. They had to use rags to treat their frost bites; George Washington even said “We have experienced little less than a famine in camp.” Men were seen marching without clothes, blankets, or shoes. There was a disease called smallpox that was also going around the camp and that affected a lot of soldiers.

Another great issue faced was the obtaining of troops from various states. This was made difficult due to the tense jealousy which resonated amongst the states. “Militiamen by their very nature were citizen- soldiers, they did not necessarily live close to where fighting would occur… states jealousy kept control of arming, disciplining, and training their militia and resisted having the men serve out of state.” (Stewart, 2005 (1)) Thus not only did the issue of transportation affect the means of tangible supplies such as food and ammunition, it also affected the supply of men to serve. The lack of structure and formalization of the Army was also an issue, for the states were at the time not required to provide their men to fight. This fighting among the states made it difficult for the troops to create a bond amongst one another, making the relationship of trust lacking.
