Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook shooter), Eric Harris (Columbine shooter), Dylan Klebold (Columbine shooter), Jeff Weise (Red Lake shooter) and Luke Woodham (Red Lake Shooter). All of the people listed had 2 major things in common. Each had been suffering from a mental disorder and had easy access to firearms. The rise of mass shootings in the past 20 years has caused a huge uproar and imbalance in the media. With the mass hysteria and president Obama’s proposal of stricter gun laws, no one has taken the time to actually consider what the main problem is. The main problem is not the guns, but the amount of mentally ill members of society who have easy access to their parents/families firearms and the criminals who buy them off the black market. The criminals and dregs of society will always find a way to get firearms and cause harm and malicious deeds to law abiding citizens. The need for the American people to defend themselves and their families is absolute. The media is constantly spreading how many lives guns have taken and as horrible devices, but the truth of the matter is, although the use of firearms has been in homicides and murders, the use of firearms has also saved countless people. Many potential rape victims have fought back in self-defense with the use of a firearm and many house invasions have been averted. The fact is a firearm is a tool, and like any tool the device can be used in any way the beholder wants. There have been many instances where firearms have not been locked up correctly and a small child has gotten a hold of it and a loss of life has occured. These bad situations have been tragic but the only thing that can be blamed for it is one thing. Improper storage of firearms. If there are children in a household any weapon of any kind should always be locked up and out of reach of small fingers. These situations would not occur if people learned to take better care of their weapons and their kids. Children who are not yet old enough to understand the concept of the dangers of a gun and how to properly treat one should never be in reach of these potentially dangerous
