Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook shooter), Eric Harris (Columbine shooter), Dylan Klebold (Columbine shooter), Jeff Weise (Red Lake shooter) and Luke Woodham (Red Lake Shooter). All of the people listed had 2 major things in common. Each had been suffering from a mental disorder and had easy access to firearms. The rise of mass shootings in the past 20 years has caused a huge uproar and imbalance in the media. With the mass hysteria and president Obama’s proposal of stricter gun laws, no one has taken the time to actually consider what the main problem is. The main problem is not the guns, but the amount of mentally ill members of society who have easy access to their parents/families firearms and the criminals who buy them off the black market. The criminals and dregs of society will always find a way to get firearms and cause harm and malicious deeds to law abiding citizens. The need for the American people to defend themselves and their families is absolute. The media is constantly spreading how many lives guns have taken and as horrible devices, but the truth of the matter is, although the use of firearms has been in homicides and murders, the use of firearms has also saved countless people. Many potential rape victims have fought back in self-defense with the use of a firearm and many house invasions have been averted. The fact is a firearm is a tool, and like any tool the device can be used in any way the beholder wants. The negative effect these tools have on the media and social media is when the devices are used with malicious intent by criminals or the mentally …show more content…
There have been many instances where firearms have not been locked up correctly and a small child has gotten a hold of it and a loss of life has occured. These bad situations have been tragic but the only thing that can be blamed for it is one thing. Improper storage of firearms. If there are children in a household any weapon of any kind should always be locked up and out of reach of small fingers. These situations would not occur if people learned to take better care of their weapons and their kids. Children who are not yet old enough to understand the concept of the dangers of a gun and how to properly treat one should never be in reach of these potentially dangerous
Almost half of the population in the US are affected by mental health conditions every year. A diagnosable mental illness affects about 43 percent of the U.S. population at some point in their lives. 75 percent of youth are left with no or insufficient treatment. If mental illness is recognized early on, it can help citizens avoid large medical bills down the road and could help lessen the amount of homelessness, unemployment, suicides, shootings, bad decision making, etc.
Mental Health is the root to numerous problems in America, how your brain deals with certain situations determines how sick or healthy our minds are. Based on a Washington Post-ABC News Poll of 808 adults, 57% agreed that the mass shootings were due to mental health issues whereas 28% said that it was due to inadequate gun control laws (SHEN). Almost 30% additional people thought that it was a mental health issue instead of a gun control issue. Since a larger portion of adults believe that mental health is the root to mass shootings a mental health test need to be complete on anyone who wants to carry or purchase a weapon.
The mass shooting has become a big issue in the United States. After shootings like the one that happened in Newtown, Connecticut all Americans come together to look for ways to actually prevent mass shootings to happened. “Mass shootings are defined as the killing of four or more victims Rates of Mass shootings have risen dramatically in the last few years. Since 2006, there have been more than 200 mass killing in the United States.” (Usatoday.com) Due to the big increase in mass shootings a question is still debatable. Are these mass shootings due to environmental factors or genetics?
For many years there has been a battle with the control over guns but what has really brought the attention is the recent shooting let it be in schools or public spaces. The deadliest in U.S history due to the many innocent victims killed was the Las Vegas Shooting on October 1, 2017, when a gunman opened fire at the concert crows below with the help of AK-47 type rifle outfitted with a stand to steady it and improve accuracy as well as a AR-15 type typically used for hunting, as well as a AR-15 type with a bump to help hold 60-100 rounds to have much damage. The question here is are gun regulations not efficient enough? In behalf of the reader's response lens the reason that it deals with the generations present and future ones. The assault
Many criminals who get access to these lethal weapons can commit mass murders or directly target the government. Terrorist attacks can be carried, killing hundreds or sometimes even thousands. Thirdly, armed citizens can accidently kill another citizen when a dangerous situation unfolds. When danger strikes, the person with a firearm is most likely to panic the most, and so they will pull the trigger on anyone to save their own life. Similarly, the police sometimes accidently kill innocent citizens who otherwise were being calm and were abiding by the law.

On the night of October 1st, 2017, a gunman was able to open fire on a crowd of concert goers from his hotel room at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, leaving 58 people dead and 851 injured in the process. It is defined as the deadliest shooting in modern US history, and involved dozens of weapons which were all purchased legally in the state, many of which were also modified to become semi-automatic rifles. If this one incident doesn’t sound bad enough, there are many other types of mass shootings like these that are reported by the media and often involve weapons which fall into what’s defined as an assault weapon. Because mass shootings like these happen so often, many people are starting to believe the right for
There have been over 360 mass shootings in the United States between January and October of this year. An average of around 1.2 shootings a day should make it alarmingly clear that something must be done. Many people push for gun control due to their strong belief that it will solve the issues that come from people having the capability to murder others, and terminate the mass casualty situations, which are deemed as multiple people being injured and/or killed during a single shooting. They want the government to make it illegal to own a private gun because of how murderers and ill people put them to use. There is no doubt that gun violence and the safety of citizens is of great significance in society. There are several proposals and sides,
For example, in Sandy Hook Elementary School (New York). 20 year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and 6 adult staff members after killing his mother at their Newtown home. Base on a comprehensive examination of Adam Lanza, which found out he was completely untreated for his metal illness in the years before the shooting for psychiatric and physical ailments such as anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. His mother was mentally healthy and stable when she purchases the gun. But mostly importantly, Family should also be examined for any mental disorders before purchasing firearms.
Turning on the news and hearing about a shooting or a armed robbery has become normal. Everyone has a gun now a days, even young kids get their hands on guns. The media teaches these children that having a gun is what makes you “cool”. If a 8 year old boy stole his dads gun and showed all his friends he would be praised. Imagine getting a call from the school saying your son is dead because his friend brought a gun to school and it went off. This has become a sad reality of something that happens way to frequently today. According to the National Institute of Justice 467,321 crimes committed in 2011 involved a gun. Action needs to be taken to lower this number because gun are for protection not malicious killing. When applying
In these past years, the United States have finally hit a crisis when coming to the issue of guns precisely in their lack of security measures. Consequently, the issue of guns has led to the current events of mass shootings that have increased each year by at least two hundred deaths. Therefore, death was the price we citizens must pay for our country's lack of security measures. In which, even with the help of metal detectors and bag searches has so efficiently. Even with the help of the Gun Control organization for its sole reason is to try to decrease the use of guns and cut the violent effects of violence in our country. That being the case, guns involved in mass shooting cause not only great devastation to the families, but also a great
For the world this type of people who usually call terrorist, murderer, most must have some kind of heart disease because what they do has no forgiveness from God. They are bad people without some feelings. They do not think about the evil that is causing and the damage that is going on, how many families are sad and how many broken hearts. No human being has the right to end the life of a living being and more with a person. This world could not be the best it may not be the best, but we must try to bring peace and provide love.
The article, “No there has not been 18 school shootings in 2018. That number is flat wrong” by John Woodrow Cox and Steven Rich, made me realize even more the dangers and how common school shootings are getting. This is very sad, and frightening, to see happen for kids of all ages.
March 14th marks the one month anniversary of the deadliest school shooting since the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. According to EveryTown, there have been 17 school shootings already in 2018, and 290 since 2013; ranging from mass shootings to suicides committed in school. These numbers are going to continue to rise unless the students of America make a stand, and We’ve had enough.
. “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me” is a saying that has been around many elementary schools, maybe some middle schools. That saying is 100% percent totally not true. As much as we pretend that words do not hurt us, well they actually do and sometimes cause a lot of damage to another person, maybe even permanent damage. Words can hurt you more than being physically hurt. If you say the right thing, you can make that person end up committing suicide or doing something else crazy like attempting to kill you or random people who didn’t deserve it. When people are bullied, it is mainly by words, when a fight breaks out at school, it was probably from words. The school shootings that have been happening lately,
