Maya Angelou is a phenomenal woman. She was born into a devastating decade, that suffered numerous tragedies. Not only had society shaped her as a woman, she has also shaped our society and influenced many lives. She is still living today, yet I believe her legend will never die. Furthermore I will share with you what motivated her and some of her gratifying experiences. How she was effected by society, and what she did about it. Also how the time period she was born into made her the extraordinary woman she is today. Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928, a year before the crash of 29 (the stock market crash). Maya Angelou is a phenomenal woman. She rises through all things that come her way and she refuses to back down. Angelou chose at a very young age to be a writer and a role model for many people. She believes that everyone should be treated equally and that the world should come together as a unity. Angelou had many careers but is known mostly for her poetic creations. She has come a long way from where she started and I think anyone can agree with me when I say, she has made us all proud with her accomplishments. Angelou writes poetry to inform and encourage others to carry on through the worst of times. She is a strong, confident, inspirational woman and I am more than honored to be doing my senior paper on her.

So, she moved to Egypt and Ghana for a while to write-freely. Not only did she write, but she excelled at it and being an African American female with knowledge she was bound to encounter discrimination. While she was in Ghana, she met one of the most historical African American activists, Malcolm X, and decided to come back to America to accommodate him build his organization. But she did think that she would inspire young African American writers that they too could become wonderful writers in a white society. Her words always leave me in deep thought while stimulating my brain. Maya Angelo’s readings are full of advice and wisdom that comes from a woman who is three times my age. That’s priceless information, Right? I can remember when I was an even younger girl growing up in grade school and in church. Every time there was a talent show or some major event where one would have to stand in front of a crowd and prove themselves. I would always choose one of Maya Angelo’s sassy, tongue-twisting poems that was sure to get the audience excited and involved. One thing my sister and I were sure of was that choosing a selection by Ms. Angelo we couldn’t go wrong or embarrassed. In my opinion, Maya Angelo is a strong and witty African-American woman who blessed the world with her thoughts through different writing pieces. She is a role model to me, because she speaks the truth. Maya Angelo has been the winner of the Noble Peace Prize and is a renowned best-selling author. I say ask anyone about her and they will know of her, or at least her writings.
