A frappé is a blended iced coffee beverage that is available in an array of different flavors. What flavors a person may come across all lies within the place they buy from. To some people, all frappés might taste the same, but others may have a favorite place to get theirs from. Both McDonald’s and Starbucks offer the beverage, but there are several underlying factors that help determine which is the best product such as price, flavors, and taste. At Starbucks, a customer can get a small frappé for a grand price of almost five dollars. In this day and time, five dollars for a drink is totally pocket change--not really. Starbucks offers an extensive amount flavors and ways to amp up a person’s frappé experience. There is even a secret menu which allows customers to create their own concoction that is otherwise not on the regular menu. Switching from Starbucks frappé to McDonald’s frappé can instantly save a person some money. McDonald’s doesn’t have any fancy flavors or hidden menus. What is on the menu is all that is offered. They cannot cater to a certain customer's desire for a specialty frappé nor can they mix and match flavors. The basic flavors Starbucks and Mcdonald’s both have taste exactly the same. The only difference is McDonald’s frappé tastes sweeter and has less of a coffee taste than Starbucks frappé does.
There are a few main differences between McDonald’s frappé and Starbucks frappé McDonald’s offers a select few flavors at a reasonable price, but Starbucks has the same flavors for nearly double the cost. If a person wants to go the cheap yet effective route then McDonald’s is the place for them. Starbucks customers are often extremely loyal and return to Starbucks in a regular pattern. They attempt to maintain the latest trends and choose Starbucks, although it is more expensive than generic coffee brands, because the quality is assured.
While there are various brands such as: Folgers, Maxwell House, and Chock Full O’ Nuts you can typically find everyone carrying a Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts cup. Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts are the top two competitors when it comes to coffee. I personally am caught between the two. On one hand, you have Starbucks, they have great tasting coffee but is very overpriced. Dunkin’ Donuts while doesn’t have all the flavors Starbucks has, is less than half the price of Starbucks. The amount of money you pay for a small ice coffee in Starbucks you can get a large one at Dunkin’ Donuts.

Pepsi or Coke? Apple or Android? Starbucks or Tim Hortons? These are seemingly insignificant choices between products; however, taken together they structure the lives of individuals. To reduce brands to anything less would be to negate the significance they hold in the fabric of individual’s lives. What is important, then, is to uncover the ways in which certain brands weave their way into this fabric through their advertising practices and promotional culture. This paper begins with a brief historical outline of consumer culture and it’s ties to neoliberalism, and then moves to an in depth exploration of the way in which companies work to create and maintain a positive brand image among consumers. Through a focus on branding, versus product-specific advertising, companies work to create attachments and emotional bonds, effectively creating a loyal and invested customer base. Corporations draw upon established systems of meaning, selling consumer’s values and beliefs back to them in the form of a brand. This process is not unidirectional, operating simultaneously through individual consent and participation. In our modern, neoliberal market place, notions of individuality have positioned “the choosing self at the center of consumer culture”, and individuals seek self-fulfillment and satisfaction from “active lifestyle choices” (Arvidsson, 2001, p. 48). The self has come to be defined by the brands one identifies with.

When choosing a specific location from the two places for your coffee needs there are things to consider such as: price, quality and convenience. That day, we all left together around 5 to make sure we would get there early enough to find fairly good seats. Before we walked in the building, there was a priest protestings and lots of people asking us to buy Donald Trump buttons. Even though we showed up an hour and a half early to the event the stadium was pretty packed.
