Mexico and the United States are countries that have several aspects to relate and compare the differences that exist between them. Each country has its own characteristics, and is a way of being able to identify to other countries. In this case, Mexico and United States are independent parents with an extensive history where we can know aspects of each one of them. Mexico is characterized by being a country of religious traditions and U.S. for being the first world power. In addition to the above, it is important to highlight the differences existing between the countries of Mexico and United Stated as well as their similarities.

Mexico is a lovely country just south of the United states. The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean are on the borders of this country. It is approximately two million square kilometers. The two main climates are tropical and desert, which are two very hot climates. It is plentiful with natural resources such as gold, timber, zinc, and silver. There are approximately two hundred million people who inhabit Mexico, and the predominant language spoken is spanish. The vast majority of people follow a christian faith, but it is not forced upon the citizens. The laws of Mexico is for the most part similar to the United states, but can slightly differ.

The yellow field with the red Zia symbol in the middle are the colors of the Spanish flag. Spanish explorers first discovered this territory in 1540. New Mexico is one of the most beautiful states with its timeless traditions and mesmerizing scenery.

Should the US have all of Texas and California or should we not have them? The US went to war with Mexico in 1846. In this war the US wanted to have the Manifest Destiny come true, so the US fought over land which is now called Texas. After the war had been fought over Texas, the US had a little later had attempted to take more land. In which, they were successful and now we call the land they fought for part of California. The US was right for going to war with Mexico for three reasons, Manifest Destiny, there was a vote on it, and Mexico attacked first.

Mexico is an extremely important country, as far as immigration is concerned, in the world. It has a large amount of emigrants that leave their country each year. Many of these emigrants go to the United States. This has caused the Mexican immigration issue to become very popular. After research, we have found out a lot about the country of Mexico.

Coming from a Hispanic culture background has taught me a lot of many different values. I was born and raised on a border town between Texas and Mexico. The culture of Mexican-American has impacted many people on both sides of the border.

The location of New Mexico is in the southwestern region of the United States of America. New Mexico had 10 main larger cities which are Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Roswell, Farmington, Clovis, Hobbs, Alamogordo, and Carlsbad. Albuquerque, New Mexico is the largest and popular city with the population 556,495 in the U.S state. In the total population in Year 2012, Hispanic and Latino are the highest of any state in New Mexico. Therefore, they usually speak New Mexican Spanish or English at home.

Mexico, whose official name is Estados Unidos Mexicanos or United Mexican States is our neighbor to the south, the U. S. and Mexico share 1,989 miles of border territory (“How Long,” 2015). Mexico is made up of 31 states and one federal district. Prior to the Mexican American War in 1846, New Mexico, California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado and Utah were also part of the Mexican territory, which was about one third of their territory (“Mexican-American War,” 2009) The population in Mexico is estimated at 121,736,809 as of October 2015 (Worldmeters, 2015), which is equivalent to 1.71% of the total world population; 79 % make up the urban population. In Mexico there are 68 official languages which included many indigenous dialects but 92.7 % of the population speak Spanish. The Mexican currency is the peso, currently the exchange rate is $16.49 pesos per dollar. In Mexico, 82.7% of the population are Roman Catholics who worship the Virgin Mary, mother of all Mexicans.

Mexico, much like the United States, is composed of free states that add up to thirty one in total. The people of Mexico trace their heritage to that of multiple nationalities that range from Native American indigenous to individuals with ancestry to European nations. This fact maybe due to the Spanish conquest of Mexico and the shipment of ethnicities that are not usually endemic to the region making Mexicans what they call “mestizos.” Again like the United States, Mexico has a presidential system with legislative, executive and judicial branches. Differences arise from the length of terms of office such as the President of Mexico is elected for six years with only being able to serve one term instead of the usual four years in office in the United States and the possibility of re-election. Mexico has a bicameral legislature made up of senators and deputies like the president they are prohibited to be re-elected to the same government position but they are able to be put in office for the other opened government positions. For example a deputy may not be elected twice to be a deputy but can be elected to be senator or president of Mexico. In terms of economy Mexico has entered into the North American Free Trade Agreement, NAFTA, a legislation implemented between Mexico, Canada and the United States that removes most tariffs on trade between its members. NAFTA looks to increase trade within all countries involved. Since this trade agreement Mexico has been oriented towards manufacturing becoming United States second largest source for export and the third largest for imports. Though Mexico has made large strides toward becoming a developed nation there remains substantial income inequality that affects the Mexican citizen’s opportunity for getting health care.
