The first and most evident Jackson follower was Usher. For many years, Usher has been depicted as “the next Michael Jackson” (Montgomery). Similarly to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Usher’s album, Confessions, contains an abundance of styles. Starting with an intense classic, and ending with a deep, raw ballad. Like Jackson, Usher used his musical talent to “move beyond simple pop balladry and develop a pure, singular artistic vision” (Keyes). Usher himself states, “I wouldn’t be who I am today without Michael Jackson.” Although Jackson’s influence on pop music artists was far more evident, one can still see his influence in hip-hop artists such as, Kanye West. Kanye portrays the superstar ambition, which is the desire to accomplish everything bigger and better than anyone and everyone and the power to bring one unified vision to a mass of people, that Jackson portrayed as well. Another famous pop singer that uses Michael Jackson’s methods is, Katy Perry. Jackson and Katy Perry have been some of the only musicians to be able to “oscillate between universal anthems and personal ballads” (Beaumont-Thomas). Finally, considerably most influenced by Michael Jackson is, Chris Brown. From his seemingly-impossible dance skills to his Michael Jackson inspired fedoras, Chris Brown dedicates almost his entire style for singing, dancing, and fashion to his idol, Michael Jackson. Brown himself states, “Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer.” Although Michael Jackson died over seven years ago, he still lives on through
Michael Jackson once sang “I 'm starting with the man in the mirror. I 'm asking him to change his ways. No message could have been any clearer; if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make the change” (Jackson). Defined by Merriam-Webster as “the study of the development, structure, interaction, and collective behavior of organized groups of human beings” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary), sociology helps us to better understand our sociological world and ourselves by giving us a new window to the world around us. Through this window we can see how other culture’s history, beliefs, and geographic location molds them into who they are; their thoughts, beliefs, and practices they have adopted. Once this new understanding and open-mindedness has been obtained, you will have a different, maybe stronger, understanding and appreciation for your own culture. A new image will appear in your mirror. Education practices can vary greatly between different cultures.
Tupac’s message and influence on many alternative rappers became well known through interviews, music, and poems. Not only was Pac an inspiration to rappers, but he was also a role model for many teenagers and young adults. He was known as a symbol of rap and it’s violence. Through various albums from trust, to racial discrimination, Pac spoke passionately about how the society helped him grow as a man. This was the legacy that made Pac an influential character to the society we live in.

There were many influential individuals that shaped the world around what people do today in everyday life. In the 20th century, influential people either changed the way we lived today for the good or for the bad. One major political influential figure was Ronald Reagan. He has been credited with ending the cold war, which abolished many of the political and military tensions between the Eastern and Western Blocs. He called the former USSR government wicked and demanded for the Berlin Wall, that separated east and West Germany, to be torn down. I believe Ronald Reagan, a former double-termed president of the United States and actor, changed society for the better for his choices in politics and what he had done with the military and cold war. His actions shaped the world then and continue to do so now. His philosophy still dominates politics today as he is often quoted and referenced by current prominent leaders especially regarding fiscal policies.

It is important to mention that Elvis met the President Richard Nixon at the white house, which he wanted to show contempt for the hippie drug culture. Yet, “Elvis was traveling with some guns and his collection of police badges, and he decided that what he really wanted was a badge from the federal Bureau of Narcotic and Dangerous Drugs back in Washington”. ”Nixon gave Elvis an honorary Drug Enforcement Administration Agent’s Badge” (Kemp). Elvis wanted to send a positive message to youth people and there’s an important credibility.
