One of the greatest lessons I have learned as a high school athlete has been how to overcome adversity and to be resilient after failure. As with any sport, particularly basketball, many valuable character traits and qualities are obtained such as: an incredible work ethic, a competitive nature, and the ability to be an effective leader. If I had not been a basketball player, I would be lacking some of the important characteristics that make me a well rounded and whole person.

Michael Jordan is unanimously considered the best basketball player of all time. Most people do not know that Jordan did not make his high school basketball team as a freshman. This rejection did not disinterest him from basketball, but made him work harder than he ever has to make the team the following year. I have also faced rejection in my life, but, like Jordan, I did not let it affect my work ethic.

Michael Jordan has stated, “I have failed over and over again in my life… and that is why I succeed.’’ This shows me that even though he failed over and over again, he never gave up. Michael Jordan never shows his emotions if he’s losing a game, or by missing a shot, he never shows emotion on his face because he won’t give up. Michael Jordan shows traits of a hero, such as his achievements and awards and making a difference through donating money.

Michael Jordan is one of the best basketball players of all time. He won hundreds of games, but Michael did lose a few games. Even the greatest of all time loses. Winning isn’t the only thing that matters in a game. There are many important lessons to learn from losing like learning good sportsmanship, having the opportunity to be part of a team, and losing builds great character.

Starting of by failing in a sport or in life is absolutely the best way to start of something. Believe it or not you can learn a lot of things by failing at something ; for an example, Michael Jordan wasn't the best when he came in the NBA he had problems he failed over and over but he got up and learned from his mistakes and grew from them.

The one thing that we all are born with no matter your background is time. You have a clock on you ticking down every second you spend no matter what it. We all have a point in which that clock stops and you die. It is hard to think about and some people want to fit as much things into there life. Others just live in the moment and enjoy the time that there in.

Never giving up ties into sports all the time. Say that you’re on a football team. Your coaches will push you to the edge and you have to suck it up, learn and repeat. Practice is supposed to be hard. But if you just quit and never go back, then it’s going to be even worse. Just keep pushing through and don’t quit.
