In “Showing What Is Possible,” Jacques D’Amboise reflects on an experience when a teacher helped him discover ballet. Madame Seda helped D’Amboise fulfill his talent. With ballet, he overcame the pressure to join a gang like his friends. D’Amboise was able to become a well-known ballet dancer with help from his teachers. When it was time to retire from dancing, he started the National Dance Institute. This project enabled D’Amboise to influence his own students around the world. An influential teacher can affect one’s future by challenging pupils to move past their comfort zones, teaching them to actively control their future, and setting up an environment where they can improve together.

Have you ever thought what it would be like to be dancing up on your toes with the American Ballet theatre (ABT)? That’s just what happened, Misty Copeland currently a principal dancer at ABT had a dream to dance there ever since she started to dance and she didn't think that she could do it,but with training, hard work, and passion you can achieve anything. For the month of September I decided to read “Life in Motion” written by Misty Copeland. This book was very inspiring in many ways. I learned so much that I didn’t know, not only about Misty Copeland but also about ballet. I decided to read this book because, Misty Copeland is one of my idols, she is also a big inspiration and I really wanted to learn more about her. Overall this book was amazing. I would recommend it to  not only ballet dancers but to also people who love non-fiction because it is full of so many details and a lot of imagery that it makes a person feel like they are in her shoes dancing through her life. I would recommend this book because many people can relate to Misty Copeland in many ways, your mind wanders while reading, and because the plot was very unbelievable and surprising.

It’s the end of another work week for Jane Onwuegbuchu. Jane comes from a very huge family of 8, where it’s very hard for her to be at the center of attention, especially being the 5th child. Debbie Allen was born to Vivian Ayers and Arthur Allen on January 16, 1950. At age three she started dancing and at age four she knew she wanted to be a professional dancer. Her parents divorced in 1957, and her mother was Debbie and her siblings were encouraged to be creative and independent. In 1960, Vivian Ayers took her children to Mexico. Her Indian name is “Maheetahan” it means “Morning Star”(1). In her tribe there are about 3,096 members(4). Naomi started dancing at three years old (3). Naomi’s mother became ill and so Naomi’s family moved to Michigan to be with her (4).She started skating lessons in Michigan when she was eight (1)(2)(4). The Ice Capades inspired her to skate (2)(3). When Naomi was twelve she went to the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Grand Rapids Ballet Company to be a ballerina (2)(3). When she was younger, it wasn’t hard for her to learn the new choreography.She was a natural dancer,but no matter how well of a dancer she was she knew that she could always improve her skills. She also became a local dancer and she performed at rodeos and county fair. One of instructor said “She didn't know learn the basics.” She needed to be taught the basics.

Betty Marie saw herself as just a “typical normal Indian girl”. Born in 1925, she grew up at an Osage reservation in Oklahoma. She was a shy introvert, but something helped her get out of her shell. When she was four, she started to take Ballet lessons from a local instructor. She became a local hit, and preformed at various events, such as fairs and rodeos. Later, she realized that despite her talent, she could still improve.

In this article I will be talking about my hero Tracy Delponte. Tracy Delponte is an amazing person, but I’m here to talk about three things about her that really stick out about her to me and my football team. Here are three of these amazing things I will be describing about. The three reasons are quite remarkable here they are well she gets food,water,and she has something you can’t just find anywhere this is motivational spirit.

She lived during a time when there was extreme racism but it didn’t stop her from working hard and achieving her goal. She became the first female self-made millionaire in America. She became famous for her beauty supplies for black women, and she used her fames and riches to help others. Now there is a difference for African American women beauty mostly because of her. Later on in this essay I’m going to explain facts about her that I didn’t even know.

Once one of the most successful dancers in both American and European theater, Katherine Dunham, a dancer, anthropologist,social activist,and educator, continues to inspire people throughout the world. Named America’s irreplaceable Dance Treasure in 2000. Dunham remains a name heard regularly in dance schools across the world (“Katherine Dunham Biography” 4). She is known for always trying to make a difference and in the process she has become of the world’s greatest humanitarians (Osumare 5). Katherine Dunham’s work in African American rights in the dance world and her creation of new styles of dance makes her an important figure in American dance History.

Miss Farrell has a wonderful talent that allow her to let you vividly experience the true life of a performer. It is not a surprise that she has this wonderful gift. In fact, a ballerina is naturally a story teller, but instead of using words to illustrate her tale a ballerina will use movements and sounds to tell a story. Imagine with me, a ballerina who dances in classical ballets with a professional company, and then “retires” to start a ballet school and mentor young dancers in order to give them training in the arts. She and her students are actively involved in serving children in inner cities and poor areas in America, as well as mission trips and providing children in impoverished nations the opportunity to experience dance themselves. This is my dream as a dancer; to not only experience the gift of dance with a professional ballet company, but to give others the chance to experience that gift for themselves. I have been training with Affirmation Ballet Performing Arts for seven years, and dance has grown into more than just a hobby that I enjoy. Dance is one of my most important passions and a way that I worship my Creator. This beautiful art form has become a dream that I hope to pursue for the rest of my life.
