Middle Class Vs Social Class

The social class in America is everywhere but it is often quite hard to recognize only because it is against the American principle for the social class system to exist. Whether we know it or not, we tend to participate in the class system.. By doing so, this leads us to separate ourselves based on our social class system, including class discrimination and social mobility

Overall, in society's class lifestyle also affects how children are raised for example, a working class person is more likely to raise their child to be working class and middle class children are more likely to be raised to be middle class. For example, including being a doctor or even being a criminal the status, then determines a set of behaviors and expectations for the individuals. Different profession, those in the upper middle class are restricted to live by a means which is considered by all else to never lower their prestige to that of the commoners and middle class go forth and fulfill their ambition of entering a life style that is structured around them in their occupations.

At top of class structure is rich/wealthy, otherwise called, upper-upper class. They are also referred to as old rich because they have held their wealth for generations and have in-group solidarity. They belong to exclusive clubs, attend exclusive boarding school, own multiple houses, individuals make more than 1 million dollars per year. Their children intermarry and the members of upper-upper class vacation together in exclusive resorts in different parts of the world.

Individuals within a society are grouped into certain rankings that is based on their wealth, income, race and education known as the social stratification. Sociologist use this to determine the social standings of individuals within a society. Social stratification can also appear in much smaller groups. These groups such as the work place, schools, and businesses can “take the form of a distribution of power and authority down the ranks”. (Cole, 2017) The Caste system is also another form of stratification that one does not get a choice in. They are born into it and regardless of their talents will hold positions that are given to them their whole life. Social mobility is the ability for individuals to move about their social standings.

Income inequality has been seen throughout different societies. It has always been separated with the poor on bottom and the rich on top. Most societies in past and present have had little to no movement between the separations of classes. The reality for the poor in most of those societies is that they can almost never get to the level and quality of life of the rich. America compared to other societies in our past and present is a society that strongly believes in the idea of “The American Dream”. The American Dream gives hope to some people below the rich that they can someday be as prosperous as the rich if they work hard enough for it and show that they are capable. This idea implies that it is possible for anyone whether the person is middle or low class. It is not possible for low-income workers in America to move to the upper class because they lack the resources for better jobs, they are racially or ethnically discriminated in the workforce and the upper class takes most of the income in the US.

In modern the modern day United states, Americans face a problem that drastically affects the way we have to live life. Our healthcare system has become drastically irregular and unequal in the current system. After thorough analyzation of the provided CTSIP tables one can clearly see the gap between economic and social classes that exists in the current structure and can place the said data into both a functionalist and marxist perspective.

Slaves were the lowest class, while plebeians were somewhat low class citizens, and patricians were respected upper class citizens. You were born into your class, but there was a chance of mobility between classes. The Ottoman Empire consisted of four different classes, and like the Roman Empire there was a possibility of movement between classes. Your place in the hierarchy depended on your skill level. From highest to lowest social class there was men of the pen, then men of the sword, then men of negotiation, and the lowest class was Men of husbandry.

Social class is a division of a society based on social and economic status which can include levels of wealth, success, power of authority, and influence. Status is can be defined or grouped having common economic, cultural, or political interests.

America is seen as the land of opportunity across the world, but many people wonder if it is true. The truth is America does have opportunities and with dedication anything is possible though the opportunities are limited. Usually limited for those who belong to a lower social class. The main reason opportunities are limited are because of America’s social inequality. The social class of America is separated into multiple groups that struggle with each other due to the inequality of power and wealth on the daily basis.
