“Introducing Davenport West Connection!!!” This is how every show choir performance for west connection members starts no matter what the year. Show choir is one of the most fun activities I have ever taken part in. From back in 8th grade Williams Intermediate Show Choir, to now in Davenport West Connection I have loved every minute of it. The people, hair and makeup, performing onstage, and even the practices were full of fun and laughter. Throughout 8th grade to now there is an enormous difference between high school show choir, and middle school show choir causing one to exceed the other. The practice and rehearsals, fundamentals of the performance, and competitions widely contrast one another yet have surprising comparisons which contribute …show more content…
This is only for first term though. Typically there will be a few rehearsals between the end of first term, and Christmas break just to keep up with everything we fixed up to then. Even before Christmas break is over we start “hell week.” This is the first week in January where there is practice every night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Then starting after hell week there are rehearsals every Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. for west connection. Compared to high school, middle school show choir practices and rehearsals are slim, yet they do have some similarities. The fundamentals of performing between both schools have more in common than the practices and rehearsals, it is just more intense in high school. While in eighth grade show choir we had one big long mash up song full of about three separate songs all by the same person. In high school there are five independent songs each by different artists with various styles too. On the other hand, the choreo involved does have a great deal of correlation. In high school during each song there are partner and individual sections, as well as parts in which focus more on the guys than the girls, and vice versa. This …show more content…
It exceeds expectations with all the fun and laughter in the world. There is no comparision to show choir in high school I am forever grateful and happy I decided to try it out. After being in show choir in middle school I thought this is not as much fun as I thought it would be, I don’t really like it, let’s not do it in high school. I was later convinced by friends and family to try it out because they knew it would be a whole different experience in high school than intermediate, and I am beyond happy I listened to them. The practices and rehearsals may be more extensive, but they are worth it because the fundamentals of performing, and the competitions allow every minute spent practicing to pay off
When I was an eighth grader in middle school, I joined IUSD Middle School Honor Orchestra. I played the viola in this orchestra and I was eighth chair violist out of sixteen violists. Many of my friends joined this orchestra and we had a lot of fun. I played different pieces of music with everyone in the orchestra and I learned many new things. Playing music pieces with different people that play different instruments have taught me a lot, and I learned that it is always important to work as a team. Joining this orchestra has given me the better understanding of music and teamwork. After the concert of this orchestra, we had a field trip to California Adventure and I performed there with the group of the first time. This is one of the best experience
Show Choir is an elective class that integrates choreography into the choral experience. A varied repertoire of 2 and 3 part music is memorized, choreographed and then performed in a concert setting. Vocal technique, developing the ensemble and dance are the main emphasis of this class. Various
If you are not familiar with what Show Choir is, and the amount of time and work ethic you need, then you are in for a big surprise. Show Choir has evolved over the past years increasingly. Forget the young men and women in dark jackets and dresses standing on old risers and singing nice choral pieces. Show Choir has become a mini-musical sport. Many claim that Cheerleading and Marching Band is considered a sport, why should Show Choir be any different? Yes, show choir is mostly singing and dancing, but there is much more to it than one would think. I would know this because Show Choir has been a part of my life for almost 3 years now. I have experienced the hardship, fun, disappointment, pain, time, and joy, but it all paid off at competition when we would go to awards and see how we placed. Show choir is a sport, just as much as “cheerleading” or “marching band.”
I chose to join show choir because I thought it would be a good way for me to leave my comfort zone and try something new and fun. The first time I thought of auditioning for show choir was when I saw them perform during my sophomore year. They sang and danced to a song titled, "Till the Love Runs Out" and the sound and choreography they did just blew me away. I knew then that I wanted to be a part of that choir.
This year has flown by quickly and sometimes I wonder where all the time went. When I first got my classes I was nervous because most of them were honors with two pre-AP classes. I learned that the classes were not hard if I studied and did my work. I wanted to drop out of my English class but my mother convinced me to stay in. My favorite class was science because we were always doing something interesting and I connected well with everyone. I got the opportunity to be in the school’s Show Choir which was amazing. I feel sad because in our Show Choir we are mostly composed of seniors so I got used to them and now I will miss them terribly. I feel like they were my second family.
Show choir, a favorite activity among many high school students, requires preparation and practice to be a top-notch performer. Although some schools go for a more complicated look, there are also schools that go for a simpler way. Whether the preparation is over the top or simple, you must follow the steps of doing your makeup, fixing your hair, and getting dressed.
On February 25, 2016, I was able to see the Mid-Year Band Concert in the PAC. The pieces I have chosen to review were performed by the Varsity, Symphonic II and Symphonic I Bands and conducted by Mr. Bailey and Mr. Hillhouse. “King Cotton,” “Amparito Roca,” and “Valdres” were among my favorites in the program and are all coincidentally, marches.
There are quite a few pedagogical reasons why Rachel and I have decided to combine both choirs. Below are just a few.
On December 5th, the University High School Show Choir and Jazz Band performed. The show that the UHS Show Choir put on turned out to be fantastic. There were seven songs that the Show Choir performed, which varied from Ella Fitzgerald as well Broadway Musicals from Anything Goes, Gentleman Prefer Blondes, and Chicago. The first number was a song called “Anything Goes” from the 1934 musical Anything Goes, which was sung by soloist, Madelene Raneses. Madelene has very good potential in her singing as well as dancing. The dancing in this performance was greatly choreographed by Mylan Biltz. Furthermore, the concert moves on with their second number, which was Ella Fitzgerald’s minor, but lovely tune, “I Got Rhythm”. This song was performed
Smithville High School presented two winter concerts. I got the opportunity to view both performances. The first show was by the Vocal Music Department directed by Mr. Marcus Duncan and aided by accompanist Emily Rowland, and the second show was by the Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Band conducted by Mr. Tom Brockman and Ms. Brittany Terwey. There were very similar aspects of the two concerts and very different aspects of the two concerts.
Now that marching season is over the band has gone full force into the concert season. While the band is preparing for their upcoming Christmas concert many students have been preparing to try out for mid-state, where they will compete against other student musicians in middle Tennessee to get the best spot in the top band.
Ever since I was accepted into A Capella Choir, I felt like the smallest fish capable of survival in the big pond. The seniors were actually good- they practiced, and they have been members for 4 years; I could never aspire to even equal these larger than life figures. Rather than working with us underclassmen,
What Anime fan has ever heard of A High School Musical, let alone been in one? Not me.
What is Choir? According to Sam Wilson, choir is a class where you are taught how to sing. If you work hard enough, you can even get a solo and sing in the concert. Wilson says that “Singing is a good skill to have because it is something you can do wherever you are, and people even make a living off of it.” The next concert is in May, you could try to join choir third quarter if you think you may be interested.
In first grade children develop their singing voice and rhythmic skills. They play instruments and move to the beat. Through activities they learn the artistic, cultural, scientific and mathematical foundations of music. Students sing songs with repetitive words and melody patterns and learn to blend their voices with others by singing in a group and develop their own voice singing alone. Some songs will be connected to the holidays.
