At only age seven, Demi was already under the spotlight when she featured on the barney and friends show, leading to her own show and starring in movies for disney. However, that was when she developed her health problems. At a very young age, Demi suffered from bulimia, which eventually led to cutting, and her diagnosis of being bipolar. The young star, now 23, hid her health issues for years as she was portrayed by the media as the happy it girl who has her own show. It wasn’t until she broke down in 2010, and seeked for help at age 18.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle defines a tragic hero as a morally-bound protagonist whose flaws develop into a downfall, suffering or defeat. Tragic heroes were first introduced in Greek mythology, though many celebrities and athletes in today’s media prove to have similar qualities. One celebrity in particular who embodies the role of tragic hero is Demi Lovato. Lovato knew that by entering the world of Disney, she could potentially end up like the several teens stars before her, including Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. Though Lovato attempted to avoid the teen star stereotype of early fame and a rapid downfall, she found herself falling down the same path of those before her.

Miley Cyrus is hosting the 2015 MTV Music Video Awards, which will broadcast on August 30th at 9pm (Eastern standard time). The pop singer made the announcement on social media via Instagram. Cyrus posted a double-sided photo; one photo featured her wearing an alien mask while wearing a sign that read, "MTV won't let me perform." The other photo showed Cyrus without the alien mask with a sign that read, "So I'm hosting this year's VMAs." The pop singer has not performed at the VMAs since 2013, for which she famously appeared onstage with Robin Thicke. Thicke performed his big hit "Blurred Lines," while Cyrus twerked while sporting very little clothing. The awards show has not had a host in three years; the last hist was Kevin Hart in 2012.

Miley decided to be explicit in order to clarify the message that she is a mature individual; an individual that is now grown up and mature enough to make her own decisions. However, her actions demonstrate the complete opposite. She was the talk of the media when she was fined for twerking on a Mexican flag during one of her concerts in Mexico. Hundreds of girls were present when she tortured the flag. This can only say that it is perfectly normal to express in such a way. The message is that women have to act sexy. Miley’s only goal in the media is to gain attention, acknowledgement, and respect. These girls want to be liberated themselves, so they look up to Miley for guidance. In addition, girls are like Miley in a sense that they ignore insults or negativity towards them (mostly from their family.) Miley’s fans feel that they can express themselves in such a way. This reinforces the idea that women should look attractive if they want to be acknowledged. These and many more negative messages lead to depression within women if they don’t act as the female figure that the world expects. This learned behavior is passed from generation to generation, and makes those behaviors become normal

The recent surge in popularity of social media comes with a price: fake news. Fake news is defined as news or media that has been altered or modified. Journalists have begun to analyze why that fake news exists and why it continues exist. Two authors, Eoin O’Carroll and Kevin D. Williamson, both have written articles about fake news. Eoin O’Carroll’s article “How Information Overload Helps Spread Fake News,” discusses how the media has bombarded us with news stories, blurring the distinct lines between real and fake news. Kevin D. Williamson, a journalist for the National Review, writes in his article “‘Fake News, Media and Voters: Shared Reality Must Be Acknowledged” that the news is not fake; it just does not align with one’s personal beliefs. Both authors successfully appeal to their audiences’ emotions and feelings, but O’Carroll is more likely to succeed than Williamson in persuading his audience to try and combat fake news because the writer presents himself as someone the intended readers will more readily identify with and offers evidence that his readers will find more compelling.

As the world evolves and changes due to the explosion of technology, so does mankind's ways of intellectual comprehension of informative news. The present day of news has overemphasized the meaning of fake news; which represents any form of false information that is illustrated as factual news. That tends to spread throughout the internet and the media. Misinformed news has taken over the world in so many ways, such as the birth of satirical and sketchy news, the financial motivation to publish actual false news, and difficult to sustain news.
