Military Ethics And Ethical Standards In The Military

Ethical standards are very high in the United States Armed forces now and always have been. As I enlisted in the military over 23 years ago, one of the first things we learned was about ethical and moral standards within the military. The military employs millions of people to include civilians a robust code of ethics must be followed by everyone. Ethics drives the military when performing in both peacetime and when the country is at war. A breakdown in ethical performance can cause individuals to perform poorly and even affect their larger units. I have personally seen a lack of concern for ethics bring an end to a Soldiers career. The military is established in a way that civilians actually control it and fund it through the government. The House of Representatives and the Senate sends a bill annually to the President of the United States (POTUS) recommending funding be approved for all services. The stakeholders overall include the POTUS, Congress, military senior leaders and the American people who fund the military through tax dollars. Senior military leaders must carry out the orders of the POTUS in a professional manner at all times. Under the POTUS sits the Secretary of Defense, which insures all the services treat their employees fair across the board. Under the Secretary of Defense, each branch of service has their own Secretary that is responsible for the implementation of all rules and regulations.
