The first reason why LGBT people should be allowed in the military is because they are willing to fight. Don Kusler says, “Military service is honorable and voluntary.” In addition, Kristin Beck says, “People, all people, are what make our country and our military great--not the weapons and equipment that prop up the military industrial complex” (Discrimination is no way to make America great ). The evidence shows that it should not matter at all because they are willing to risk their lives for us. Even though people think that LGBT people reduce the overall effectiveness but why do they believe that it reduces effectiveness even though there would be more humans than to help fight. Not only are LGBT people willing to fight but they deserve the job.

The last thing we want to do is to turn away volunteers. If soldiers were excluded on based assumptions and fear, that will lead to our downfall. Surprisingly, only 25% of U.S. citizens from the age of 17-24 are qualified to join the military. “We didn’t care if you were transgender, bald, or had freckles. There is no evidence that a trans sniper is less accurate, or a trans pilot is less effective” -Ted Lieu a former veteran. Turning away capable soldiers would be foolish and selfish.

Why exactly should we allow the LGBT community to serve openly in the military? There are many reasons that can, in the long run affect us as a society. Why should we care about other people and the gender that they choose to be? When we are at war and fighting for our country would that really matter ! These very reasons and many more are what steer the LGBT community away from the military. The LGBT community should be able to serve openly in the military because gender identity has nothing to do with physical ability, the ban is an act of discrimination, and the American Constitution proposes a society based in inclusion not exclusion.

Gender identity and sexual orientation are not the same, and many people do not understand the difference between the two. Gender identity is which one applies him/herself as male or female. This includes: straight men and women transgender men and women, and some lesbians and gays. The definition of Sexual orientation is the person which one desires to be with. To further explain: a woman with a woman would be in the lesbian community. A man with a man would be the in gay community. One of the big questions lurking in the United States is if transgenders can serve in the military. As of right now they are temporarily not allowing transgenders into the military. This is a very “touchy” topic as when discussed in verbal debates, situations can become pretty heated. Transgenders face discrimination throughout all areas of their life including their decisions to serve in the United States Military. Transgender citizens should face no limitations when they serve as a part of the military because the budget contains the money necessary to provide the services they need, it would not affect the unit readiness, and it is unfair to not provide an equal opportunity for them.

There is a current social issue that is attacking the United States Military on a molecular level and harming the anatomy of the army organization. As of today, prospective Transgender and military individuals are being thrown against the wall by whether or not they should join the military or should be honorary discharged from service based on the standing they are mental, physically and emotionally unstable. As human society advances through the stages of time we are faced with the underlying issue of the safety of our country and the belief if individuals diagnosed with gender dysmorphia ( a strong feeling of identification with the opposite gender of which you're a biologically born as causing tremendous trauma to a person's mental status) could serve the particular guidelines it takes to serve this country. Although many believe the medical costs of having transgenders in the military are too expensive, they are just as accepted and prepared to fight as other soldiers.
