Mincy's Argument Essay

From the book “The Giver”, I have noticed an important message that the author wanted to tell us – The importance of freedom.

The wild is important to have because it’s the last remaining place where we can turn to escape from our own too-muchness. When we enter the wild we are free with no customs to follow. The wild allows us to be less responsible and free to venture away from society. This quote has a great connection with my perspective because it’s saying that it’s a place of renewal, relaxation and peace. Therefore, wilderness is a place of refuge.

It is my sincere pleasure to be able to write this letter of recommendation for Ethan Michalowski. I have known Ethan for the past four years as his English teacher and forensics coach; therefore, I feel that I am able to testify to his many strengths as a student and his talents as a contributing member of his school and community. I am honored that Ethan has asked me to write this letter, but adequately portraying his academic excellence, leadership qualities, and pure love of learning is no small task.

When you see yourself living out your dream, the thought of what you're most passionate about pulls you in. Passions in one's life change based on what had affected that person. Dreams are defined to change. However, the benefits of these thoughts is that they belong to you and only you. Not one person's opinions matter but your own. Chris McCandless simply was living out his own ideal life, the way he wanted; not to the idea of his parents, his friends or of society. McCandless wanted to escape society and civilization which he felt was tying him down, while also trying to discover himself. McCandless is not by any means a wacko. He was simply defying society and its ideal expectation it holds upon us as a whole.

The coming age of African Americans rights to vote was a remarkable time in history. This life-changing experience set new boundaries for the welfare of minorities in the United States. African Americans would be able to cast their votes on governmental issues, without becoming afraid of the harmful acts they may have to face.

Within this paper I will be explain the what the term “prisoner rights” mean and which rights are allowed and denied for prisoners. I will also be giving a brief history on and explaining how prisoner rights have changed from the early days till today. I will also try to give my own views on if those changes have been beneficial for the prisoners and how their rights may develop in the future.

Equalizing the constitutional rights of prisoners and the functions of the jail or prison can create great strain on not only the correctional facilities’ staff but on the inmates as well. The treatment of prisoners is typically left completely to the prudence of prison administrators and other correctional officials. With that being said, this paper will discuss the differences between harmonizing those constitutional rights of prisoners and the functions of the facility. It will also explain the rights that prisoners are required to have, and how these rights are balanced within other aspects of the correctional institution.

Michael Naranjo’s speech was lewd and obscene. In order to determine the school’s ability to restrict his speech, it must occupy the area within the capability of the school to extend its restrictions off of campus. The test the court chooses to adopt will determine the school’s rights to reach outside the campus.

Read along! Wow! How disappointed Emerson, Lake and Palmer must be in this sophomoric attempt at humor. Certainly, a painful finale to wonderful class. Admittedly, I have struggled to produce original and interesting content for these blogs. It wasn’t always so. In the autumn of 73, I experienced no such struggle. Ideas burst forth freely and often to form exquisite prose delighting my English professors. Indeed, the fact that I now struggle was a compelling argument to register for this class.

Thoreau reflects his positive views on nature as he “never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude” (Thoreau, Solitude). A companion and being in a state of solitude are opposites of each other, but in nature, they act simultaneously because nature offers a source of comfort to one living an independent life. In a civilization, an individual is required to follow proper etiquette to maintain a prosperous community. When in reality, the corruptness of society goes against proper decorums. Into the Wild mirrors this view because Chris adjudges that in a quiet secluded life, happiness is found. Man does not need to be burdened by an oppressive society, and instead, can live freely in nature. Burdens that arise from corporations corrupt humankind because of the unjust laws that are present. The word “freedom” has always been a cornerstone of the numerous transformations of the American society. It is the notion that is found in speeches of both Republican and Democrat politicians, the idea that connected the mind of an affluent Southern plantation owner and that of a radical abolitionist. Generally, the understanding of any period in the United States history as a whole relies heavily on acquiring the knowledge of the way of life, and the patterns of thought of the American public. The meaning of freedom provides a unique insight into social models, and can be considered a crucial factor when examining the impact of the key events in the history of the United States, namely the Civil War. The three speeches by the prominent American politicians and presidents from 1850’s throughout the Civil War era will be compared and analyzed with respect to their definition of freedom in order to demonstrate the different perceptions of this concept in the 19th century American society.

Freedom means, to carry out one own choices, actions without coercion or constraint by necessity or circumstances. Fate often take a hand in the distillation of freedom. When this distillation occurs at weaker levels, benevolent slavery begins. A benevolent master usually receives gratitude from those slaves who are aware of their good fortune and will, in turn, work willingly. This form of slave's future is relatively certain, assured and predictable. Their offspring, born into a benevolent slavery, find the thought of freedom disturbing.
