Obesity is an increasing problem in the United States, in which “the incidence of obesity among adults in the United States increased by 50% per decade throughout the 1980s and 1990s” (Morrow, Heesh, Dinger, Hull, Kneehans, and Fields, 2016). The current statistics that describes college students as overweight and obese is overwhelming since “38.5%” (Silvestri, and Bonis, 2009) of students are in this category.

Growing up in poverty , what we would consider the “hood” the young black males are targeted because of where they are coming from and growing up at . For example , Lil Durk is from Chicago , but has the same struggle as the kids growing up in poverty in Dallas , Compton , Houston and etc because it is all the same just a different hood. I think that thinking is better than doing because if you just do something then you could harm your future and just doing something without thinking can get you into a lot of trouble. If I had to choose if I wanted to be a person who just does or "intellectual" I would be intellectual. The reason for that is because if I did something without thinking I would have consequences and then that would mess up my future.

I came into Norwalk Community College looking for a fresh start. I previously attended a 4 year university that became too much for me; attending school full-time, working 30 hours per week while trying to enjoy the college experience. At the cost of an “experience” I ended up failing most of my classes, putting my health at risk drowned by the tremendous amount of stress and just wanted to completely give up. Looking for a fresh start I decided to leave my University, and attend Norwalk Community College. Though this decision created self-doubt in the beginning, it soon came to my realization that it was the best decision I ever made. Immersed in an environment full of positive people, I was able to put my pieces back together.

Royalton High School follows a 7 period day schedule, 50 minutes class periods, typically 5 days a week beginning at 8:15am and ending at 3:22pm. A regularly scheduled day consists of seven four minute passing periods and a 15 minute homeroom at the end of the day. Homeroom is not considered as a scheduled class, and even though it is not required, it is still beneficial to many students. The sole purpose of homeroom is to inform students of extracurricular activities, scholarships and college visits, the announcements, and reduce class absences.

Friendship “A best friend is someone who you can talk to, who won’t judge you, loves you for you, and most of all, makes you feel like you are worth something.” as said by anonymous. In the novel Freak the Mighty, Max and Kevin demonstrated a strong friendship. In fact, they accepted each other without judgment, and they made each other feel like they belonged. Hence, friendship is important because having a good friend can help you through hard times.

There are soccer moms, stay-at-home moms, working moms, “cool” moms, and many other types that are at war with each other on how to raise children. Along with the many types of moms, there are hundreds of different types of kids. There is no reason for one parent to tell another on how to raise their child, because each kid is unique. On the finish line, I don’t think it matters how many soccer games the mom went to or if the child was sent to daycare. The quality time that mothers and children from 0-18 has an impact on the child’s life. However, the amount of time that they spend together does not have much of an influence for the future.

Freshman 101 is a class adapted from the parrot program (Fay & Medway, 2006, p. 226). The parrot program was designed for college students at Cornell University.
