The minimum wage is one of the most controversial issues on our country, which is United States has been facing last ten years. There have been never ending debates over this issue until the government, company, and others party stand together, and raise the minimum wage throughout the nations. There are communities that believe raise the minimum wage has negative impact of every sector of the country. Other communities have different beliefs over the issue, raising the minimum wage helps the poor people, and would help not hurt our economy.

Investing in employees is the single most important investment that a company can make. A lot of Americans are now in deep poverty, or have a huge amount of debt to catch up too. With the thought of that, in the United States today, millions of Americans are living on the federal minimum wage of $7.25. For this case, it is necessary that there is a need for an increase in the federal minimum wage because it would be much more beneficial to both the economy of the United States and to individual workers because more Americans need spending power, higher minimum wage will help close the wide gap between the wealthy and the poor, and the working poor need to protect themselves in case something goes wrong.

The minimum wage in the United States has been an ongoing controversy for many years now. The first minimum wage was established in 1938 (Reich, 2015, P. 3). That minimum wage started out at .25 cents an hour; compared to today’s higher wage of a government standard of $7.25 an hour. Many people believe that the minimum wage should be more so that those who live below the poverty level in the United States will decrease, however in many other people’s opinions the minimum wage should be the same. The minimum wage should stay the same at a low $7.25.

Minimum wage is something a lot of people want to change. Some want to change it to $15.00 an hour, that is double of what it is now, others argue that it should stay the same. Many things would change if minimum wage was raised. People argue that it should be raised, but they don’t stop to think about what the consequences would be. Raising the minimum wage would not only affect many of us in this room, but many people around the United States.

The federal minimum wage has been debated and questioned since it was created in 1938. In 2009 the federal minimum wage was set at $7.25. Barack Obama proposed it be increased to $10.10 per hour but was unsuccessful in his attempts. The working class has declared that it currently is not a liveable amount and are fighting to have it increased to $15 with a movement called #fightfor15. Workers believe that a higher minimum wage will create more jobs and boost the economy. There are many arguments that say minimum wage should or shouldn’t be increased. A value of $15 could do more harm than good. According to research, increasing the federal minimum wage to just $10.10 would provide a livable income for workers and boost the economy.

Minimum wage is a hot topic today. We are at war with two opposing viewpoints. One side wants to raise the minimum wage the other side wants to keep it the same and let the economy work it out. Then there are those in the middle that believe that it should go up but not much. I would call those people the moderates they are ones that try to see both sides and come to an agreement. To understand the minimum wage debate and the moral ramifications of it we must go back to the early days of minimum wage. There are few questions that must be answered as well. Those questions are who, what, When, why? Out of all these questions I believe the most important would be why.

Increasing the minimum wage helps people, right? That is the topic of discussion in the recent discourse held by Professor Joe Silverman. With so many differing opinions it was a topic that needed to be addressed. The listeners, most of whom had minimum wage jobs, were exuding anticipation as this topic truly applied to them. Who “wins”, and who “loses” were the focus of the talk that addressed both the benefits and disadvantages of a raised minimum wage.

Many economists have proven the fact that increases in payments result to exquisite productivity. The federal minimum wage in the United States is an atrocious seven dollars and twenty-five cents. Employees in small business industries, like McDonalds get paid right on the minimum wage, and those workers do not get credited enough for the work they accomplish. Likewise, the Mobil Gas Station pays the gas attendant an hourly nine dollars and five cents. The relationship between the quality of work, and the money paid with it is highly disproportioned, as a result, the minimum wage should be raised.

The national minimum wage was introduced in the UK in April 1999 by the Labour government. Essentially it formed a major part of their manifesto as it convinced the average population that Labour were beneficial for everybody. However, they would argue against classical economics and suggest there are wide spread benefits to be gained. The main argument is that the NMW would alleviate poverty across the country.

Throughout our country's history there has always been a debate on the minimum wage crisis. Some say it needs to be raised, many say it needs to be lowered, but I say it needs to be raised. There are many reasons to support this argument and I will be going through the big points throughout this post. Raising the minimum wage is good for every person in the United States economy and I will be the one to tell you why and how it could help you and your family today if you just raise the minimum wage.
