The story The Nose and Black boy have things in common on how they got mistreated by other people who had thought they were better than them. The two stories have the same tone because they have people getting mistreated for their race and for their money. These books talk about how they both lost the power to do anything because of what has happened to them or for who they are and from where they came from. In Black Boy the main character Richard, is mistreated for the color of his skin. He had been mistreated all his life growing up. At the age of four he had burned down his grandma’s house. His mother beat him near to death for something he did not know he was doing as a CHILD! His family had moved and at the age 12 he found out what racism
The main theme of Black Like Me is Racism and the social problems that come with Racism. Initially, John Griffin the author of this book, shows how painful it is to be discriminated against due to someone 's skin color. He Also, he shows the ugliness of racists, and their personalities that have been distorted by hatred. While experiencing the events of this book, Griffin endures hate stares, threats, harassment, and humiliation. In retrospect, he is unable to find a job and, in accordance with segregation, he is also unable to use restrooms or enter many establishments due to the color of his skin. Through John 's experience, the only employment he was able to find was as a shoe shiner and he only found this due to the kindness of one man, a black man. Likewise, John also had to walk far out of his way just to be able to find a restroom or even a establishment to eat in, which are basic human needs. In like manner, John also learned that, racism even exists among blacks themselves, who value lighter skin over dark skin. Thus, making someone in your own race feel lesser, because they are darker, which is know better than the white racists in this book. Moreover, darker skin blacks were not only treated different by whites, but also by their own race. One would think that black society would know how it feels to be judged by the color of their skin, so why would they segregate between
The first aspect both stories have in common is the fact that both of the women are oppressed by a man in their life.“The
The articles of Brent Staples “ Just Walk on By” and Richard Rodriguez “Complexion” comparing the similarities and differences of Staples and Rodriguez 's article. Both authors state the scarring effects of racism on the mind juveniles by the use of personal experiences from their youth.
In the story Emmett till there was racist people. Emmett was a 14 year old boy that went to trial for being black and flirting with a white lady. Emmett said hello to a white women and he was beaten by her husband

There have been many stories about discrimination. It has affected people of color. Those stories explained how bad it can be for outsiders. Stories like that have had a big impact on society. Two stories that are an example of that are “Black Men and Public Space” by Brent Staples and “The F Word” by Firoozeh Dumas. The stories, “Black Men and Public Space” and “The F Word” are similar because both characters were discriminated against themselves, were not the only ones harassed, and each went through a tough moment.
We observe how the main protagonists must go through life deciding what is right for them and what is considered to be right by society. Even though on the surface Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn and Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner may seem to be two completely different works of fiction, the main protagonists in both stories undergo many obstacles that allow them to grow as people, this is conveyed through the use of irony. The use of irony in both novels is shown through the themes of, friendship, education, the bond between father and son, the search for redemption and morality. While studying these two highly thought-provoking novels we learn a lot about human nature and the status of certain ethnicities in society. In both works, two young boys who are already faced with racial concern regarding their friendships must decide if they will do what is right for them or what is expected of them socially. We see how this conflict can have an impactful meaning on the lives of both protagonists and it consumes their way of life. This proves that the racial injustices of the world affect children the most. They are still naive to the realities of such injustices yet they still struggle with their the stature of their environment due to what they have been taught growing up in such societies. However, in both cases we see that their is hope for children, their
Racial Discrimination continues to be a heavy topic in today's age. Regardless of people’s age and gender, people of all ages are targeted, abused and bullied every day. No one really see's what is going on through the halls of schools and everywhere society goes. The book Black Boy and society both very similar and different is multiple ways. The reason Black Boy and society tie together in various ways is because people are all in a system and some are afraid to be different.
The story Race Traitor was a story in which a boy was against his own race. This boy named Joel Gilbert did not like white people even though he was one. Joel’s major goal to get together with a lot of people to destroy the “white society.” Everything started when he was a child. Joel had a very hard life growing up how he did and his childhood wasn’t as easy as others. He had to watch his dad beat his mom almost every day for the tiniest things ever. After all these events of daily abuse, his mom finally got a divorce from his father, but that didn’t change anything. His dad kept coming back to the house and the police and court did nothing to protect his mom or his siblings. Growing up with a single mom he didn’t have much. They lived in
The racism and discrimination against blacks in both Black Like Me and Black Boy show the hardships and racial injustice that blacks faced in the south with their share of differences and similarities. After reading Black Like Me and Black Boy, I have gained a better perspective, about how in Black Like Me when John Howard Griffin was a “black” man he was treated unequally as all blacks are and once he went back to being a white man those people who had treated him bad were now treating him with respect. However, in the end no matter the skin color some things are the same for both colors. In Black Boy, I have learned that the life of a young child, a black boy, is hard during the segregated south and can harshly affect the child while
In both of these novels, which have many similar characteristics, the themes of finding identity in one’s own culture and the use of oral tradition to remain faithful to one’s heritage are
In Interpreter of Maladies, assimilation and social standing cause alienation, showing society’s lofty expectations from its occupants. In Black Boy, Richard fights a lonely battle against an uneducated black community and a ruthless region. Through conflicts such as alienation, these characters remind readers that life can be an unforgiving nightmare when a larger force such as society governs actions and behaviors. Readers must imbibe the fortitude of Richard and overcome challenges with courage to find pleasure and
The theme of racism in Master Harold and the Boys resonated deeply with me because of how influential and relevant it still remains. In the story, racism caused a huge shift, causing inevitable classism, generational poverty and a lack of a quality education towards people of color, prompting micro-aggressions of all types from the whites. Today, this theme translates almost exactly into American society through the racial wage gap, police brutality and micro-aggressions towards people of color. Racism is problematic and relevant to a huge amount of people worldwide.
One way or another, these stories are related to their individual culture and the history of it. The African American literature is a story about how Africans did not get a good education, if any at all. While reading “Long Black Song” the reader can read that Sarah, the main character, does not have good English grammar. Southern Africans are usually associated with the way that Sarah talks. In these days, even Ebonics is used among Africans. In the Indian literature is a story about a man named Abel who is Indian and is struggling to exist in two different worlds. The story tells how Indian life is and traditions of the Indians. It tells stories about Indian folktale. It is a story about culture and how Abel is trying to find his way to exist in America. The Asian literature is a story about a girl who starts her menstrual cycle and her mother feels like she needs to let her daughter know how people are taught when they do not follow rules of their culture. The mother feels that she needs to let her daughter know about her sister in law. The mother tells the daughter about how her sister in law got pregnant while he husband was away and how the village treated the family and her sister in law with disrespect because she did not follow the rules of her
Biological Racism is shown in this film quite often. Throughout Lewis’s time participating in the freedom groups, they do several peaceful sit ins. A sit in is a protest in which a group of people occupy a place to show their belief. While Lewis and his new friends sit in, they are beat, spit on, called names, and eventually get arrested. This is a prime example of biological racism. The white people spit on the blacks as they sit in protest because they think they are better or superior to them, and that they don't deserve to sit there. Another example displayed in this movie is when the Klu Klux Klan stops the Freedom Bus Lewis and his friends were on, beats them up and sets the bus on fire. All of these things tie into white people's beliefs that they are better than the blacks, that they don't deserve to live. This was also a time that lunching could take place. Black people were hanged and killed for no reason. There is also lots of White Privilege shown throughout this movie.
