After discussing these ideas we liked the idea of the voices watching over my character all that she can hear are the voices. After talking about this idea it made create more of a Plan which allowed me to think of a clearer idea. I had the idea of using a black piece of stretchy material which allows you to see every detail. I had 4 people in my group and I had the idea of them being the voices but them to come in form as a type of monster. I really liked this idea. The reason is it wasn't the typical way you would portray voices in your head’ everyone's voices that they can hear can be very different in the way affect the person in different ways. In the way that some voices for example could be telling you to hurt people you love or they
Rhetorical Analysis of “ Monster Culture ” In his opinion piece at the beginning of the book Monster Theory: Reading Culture , entitled “ Monster Culture (Seven Theses) ” , Jeffery Jerome Cohen tries his best to detail to his audience why monsters are symbolic of those things which e xist on the edges of culture. What monsters are changes according to the ideas and convention s most disruptive to any given culture at any point in time.
Monster exists long time ago and they are everywhere. However, there are different types of monster, some that are good and some that are bad. Many people that watched monster films get the desire of being one of the monsters that appears in the film. This essay will argue the different aspects and effects that monsters have in a person. I will use two article that will help explain the differences aspects and actions of the monster. One of the articles is “Here Be Monsters” by Ted Genoways, second article is “Fear of the Monster is Really a Kind of Desired” by Jeffrey Jerome Cohen. “Monster can function as an alter ego, as an alluring projection of (an Other) self” (Cohen, 190). Furthermore, this essay will show some fallacies that the author
Being on your phone too much takes away from your boredom and your own creative thoughts. In the month of April 2017, Manoush Zomorodi gave a speech at Ted Talks about how boredom can actually be good for you. Her purpose was to explain to people how being bored leads to great things. She also wants to clarify to people that being on your phone affects your boredom. She describes in her speech that while being on your phone is fun, it never gives you time to actually sit and think. Being on your phone never makes you bored, and Zomorodi wants to show that being on your phone too much doesn’t allow new thoughts to come about. Zomorodi’s primary audience was toward middle age people that could not keep their phones away from them. The theme

The Monster Culture Seven theses written by Jeffrey Cohen discusses seven areas of monstrous aspects that have appeared in our culture due to a number of reasons by society. The story of the immortal cells of Henrietta Lacks can be intertwined in several of the thesis on monsters. Four areas I found to most correlate are Thesis I: The Monster’s Body Is a Cultural Body as it relates to Night Doctors, Thesis II: The Monster Always Escapes comparing to the HeLA bomb chapter in the book, Lastly, Thesis IV: The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference reflecting on the race of Henrietta and the concept of black genes/cells running thru all of mankind regardless of color. The Monster concepts in Jeffrey Cohen’s article interrelate to the story of Henrietta Lacks based on her story reads like science fiction and

“The Sound of a Voice” by David Henry Hwang is a one act play telling the story of two characters, Man and Woman. These characters both live alone and isolated. Woman is rumored to be a witch, and Man is a soldier without a purpose who comes in hope of killing Woman. They both have a fear of silence and love. These unusual fears result in their fatal downfall. This play explores deep emotions, such as the fear of silence that Man and Woman share which pushes Woman to commit suicide. A fear of intimacy, felt exceptionally strong by Man, results in unfortunate timing leading to Woman’s death. Loneliness displayed by both characters is the underlying cause of the outcome. These feelings play together to contribute to Man and Woman’s tragic love.
“What makes a character a monster”? An individual in a text could be considered a monster based on their actions. A “monster” would be considered a character who has committed cruel behaviors and actions, as well as demanding others to commit cruel actions for pleasure. Since monsters commit these type of actions, they tend to have specific personality traits and characteristics. This individual’s personality is typically filled with ugliness. A “monster” may possess characteristics such as cruelty, evilness, selfless, and inhumanity. Often times, a monster would also be considered the antagonist of the story. During this semester, we were instructed to read a number of texts which included Hamlet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, and “Elegy”. In the play Hamlet, King Claudius would be the monster and the antagonist of the story. This monster committed cruel action, such as murdering his brother and then beginning to plan another murder. King Claudius is also the monster in the movie Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. The poem, “Elegy” written by Rachel Eliza Griffiths describes characteristics of what it means to be a monster. Each text had a character that would fit into the category of an antagonist and a monster. A character would be considered a monster if they possess harmful behaviors of others and demands other individuals to do the same for their own pleasure. One may be considered a monster based on harmful actions, such as murdering somebody for their
You can be shot or stabbed, but nothing is compared to the darkness of your mind. The conscious thought of prejudice reins over the world. In The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street, what really caused the antagonism of the residents of Maple Street was the resentment and fear they felt towards their fellow neighbors. Ultimately, this proves that prejudices are more dangerous than weapons. Evidence that illustrate the example are when Charlie accused Tommy of being the “monster” because of his knowledge what would happen, as well as the accusation leveled against Les Goodman when his car turned on.
“ Zoom” a meteor flew over Maple Street. It is 6:43 P.M. at Maple Street. The power went off, the phone stopped working, and the radio wasn’t working. The plot is realistic in “THe Monsters are due on Maple street because, people could be monsters, it is a street called Maple Street, and the power can go off, then Les Goodman car started by itself.
The evergreen voice of cuckoo reminds me of cold and misty mornings and sometimes lazy evenings. That voice refreshes our mind and soul. It urges us to stay alert for more and more of that versatile song. Its diverse way of singing enables me fight back all vicissitudes of life. Without the music coming out of cuckoo, life will be like an ice cube left out in a summer
The use of Frioozeh Dumas’s voice enhanced the piece for the reader by allowing the reader to visualize the feelings and emotions of Frioozeh Dumas. This is shown in the text when she states “I cringed” and also when Frioozeh says “we were stupid”. The reader can sense the frustration and the embarrassment that she felt as a child. You can also see that she looks into her past and admits that she and her mother lacked the knowledge of most Americans. These quotations of text prove that Dumas’s voice allows the reader to visualize the feelings and emotions of Frioozeh Dumas.
In “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street” by Rod Serling, the actions of the characters and events are important in the story because they advance the plot by making the story more suspenseful and interesting. At the beginning of the story, at 6:43 pm, a ‘meteor’ went across the sky, which startled everyone. Then later on, the power went out, nothing was working. As quoted in the passage, “What was that? A meteor?” and “Steve, the power’s off. I had the soup on the stove and the stove just stopped working.” Based on the information in the text, after the meteor went across the sky, people started to panic a bit after the power went out. In the middle of the story, Tommy told everyone about the aliens looking like humans and can be one of them.
Rod Sterlings message to the readers for “Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” is Judgment. The theme begins to appear in the story when the power goes out and nothing was working on Maple Street. They sent Pete Van Horn down to check on the other neighborhood. Later, Mr. Goodman tries to start his car and it does not work. Then suddenly his car turned on automatically. Once his car started up every on decided that he was the one who was responsible for everything that was not working. In the text it says,” It just doesn't seem right, though, keeping watch on them.,” said Sally. This shows that they were quick to judge him when his car started automatically. Later in the story a figure walked up to them through the darkness of the night, walking
In the film Monsters are Due on Maple Street the theme is you should never make accusations at people when you truly have no real evidence for your claim.
