The plot and diction were the most essential elements in the play. The diction in the play makes the dialogue more dramatic, feeding the theme of a tragedy. In video 1 focuses on the diction and plot. It seemed a bit modern, due to costume choices. While in video 2 it focuses on plot. It’s costume choice is completely different compared to video
Clothing was also very different, in the 1999 interpretation, the costumes were very athenian and went along with the story. The actors in the play version, were very poor, it was extremely hard to understand what was happening and understand the main point. Along with the actors, their stage presence in the play version put on by Rice University was very tiresome, emotion and enthusiasm were lacking throughout some parts of the play. The 1999 version also had much more singing and was seemed to be more action packed. The actors weren't just walking across stage trying to act the scenes out. The directors also chose to put in different scenes which was very obvious when watching both versions. Camera angles were very prominent in the movie version, it created a dramatic effect and caught the eye of the viewer. Where in the other version we only see three different angles, up close, far away and on the side. Rice University chose not to make the fairies a main part in the play, where in the 1999 version, fairies were used with each of the characters, this was easier to follow and interpret why
First of all, in the both versions, some of them don’t have the same exact characters like in the movie or the play. For the movie, you can’t see the movie being made, but in the play they have sets and other costumes and equipment to make the play more realistic.
Question 1: Compare the details of Brooke’s poem with Shakespeare’s version and indicate why the playwright made such alterations.
8. In this passage, In the last line of the quote death says he'll tell you what you truly look like. He says to look in the mirror while we wait. This means that death is us, My interpretation of this quote says that death is saying that we are death destruction, we cause it all or like that we are a dead man walking.
The narrative configuration of the movie tells the same story as the play but in a new light and further emphasizes its themes. The use of a non-linear structure and a seemingly crafted use of line of action
1.) Shakespeare is considered the most important playwright ever because, according to the film Shakespeare on the Silver Screen, “he seems to deal with and discuss and dramatize most of the things that matter to most human beings.” What this means is that he was able to write about issues that individuals wanted to see and what mattered to them. He had a gift of observing people without judging them; he observed them for who they really were. For example, in Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare was able to discuss tragic love, something that most humans could relate to and love is something that mattered to a number of them as well. He was able to connect to individuals and connect to the emotions they were feeling.
My observation of the shakespeare love's labor's lost at the quiescent theater is that the stage design was not what I expected for a shakespearean play which I assumed would see these big elegant set pieces for the king's court but their was only two shrubs and seem mostly dependent on the lighting I thought this was a good decision because of the lack of scenery paid more attention to the actors because. The costumes the characters wore looked to be of modern attire except I felt that especially Biron that he was the rebel of the group of scholars while the two other associates Longaville and Dumaine who were dressed in debonair attire in contrast to biron who wore a hoodie under his blazer, khaki shorts and ruffled which was really helpful to me because I had a hard time understanding his character but
The genre is a musical comedy. The rock music of the eighties moves the play through the story that is centered in the Bourbon Room bar in Los Angeles. Most of the characters in the play used to be in a rock band, currently are in a rock band or are trying hard to get into a rock band. The girls who wanted or currently want to make in movies are bar waitresses and strippers. Big business wants to close down the strip and develop a new business district. The classic rock hits and the main love interest moves the story toward a happy and energetic ending.
The characters, all of them, were moving around so often and the stage was really small. Since there was a lot of violence, the characters movements were hard and direct. Not to mention their speed was often fast. Their flow of their movements was not tight or rigid. The flow of their movements was free and even sometimes liberating. I feel like we often do this in class every time we start class. By how we do our begining exercise by running around the class room with fast speed, and we slowly go slower or more momentum with our movements. It’s exactly how the characters in Our Class acted like how when the play started in their classroom. Understanding the character movements helps build a deeper relationship with our character. The play would be not as good if the actors weren’t trained on their movement. It was also interesting to see how they used a lot of lighting to demonstrate their emotions or different narratives when speaking. The sound effects were present, especially when it came to violence. It helped made the play even more realistic and believable. I hope to learn more of these techniques in feature classes.
To be or not to be, that is the question. That line is William Shakespeare's most famous lines, and trust me there has been a lot of lines to chose from when it comes to a genius like Shakespeare. The play is rather boring until you get up to the ending. This play is known for its soliloquies with Hamlet and how keeps the audience informed on what exactly he is feeling and about what is going on. Hamlet is going through an immense amount of confusion, hurt, and anger at the same time, he doesn't know how to channel any of it so he starts to act out on a word that is, revenge. Hamlet is troubled in more than one way and these themes will help us understand him as a
So as you can see, the difference between a story and a play aren’t that big at all, and hardly affect the performance. But the similarities between both are greater. It shows that no matter the differences, it doesn’t matter if you are reading a book or watching a live performance. As long as you remember what Edgar Allen Poe was trying to explain through his works of
Costumes and makeup help bring the characters in a show to life. They can turn a man into a beast, a woman into a witch, they can even turn a man into a woman. Although the practices back then were not the same, the costumes and makeup were still able to do the same job.
Do opposites attract? Or just want to destroy one another? Foils highlight the characteristics of the protagonist by contrasting their behavior to other characters. Hamlet is a foil to Fortinbras, Laertes, Horatio, and Claudius. Hamlet’s father kills Fortinbras’s father, Claudius kills Hamlet’s father, and Hamlet kills Laertes’s father. Each character reacts differently to the situations they are put in. Though similar in some ways, the character differences are magnified when they are challenged.
The movie, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is an interesting and somewhat complicated story to keep up with and understand. It takes full attention to know what is happening and why it is happening throughout the entire movie. This movie is a romantic comedy fantasy film based on the play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare, and directed by Michael Hoffman. It was filmed on location in Lazio and Tuscany, and at Cinecitta Studios, Rome, Italy. The action of this play was transported from Athens, Greece, to a fictional Monte Athena, located in the Tuscan region of Italy. This movie takes place in the nineteenth century in the Kingdom of Italy and consists of young lovers, Lysander and Hermia who are not allowed to marry because Hermia’s father has promised her to Demetrious. The two forbidden lovers then make plans to run away into the forest so they can be together, but before leaving Hermia spills her secret to her friend Helena who is desperately in love with Demetrious. In hopes for him to like her, Helena tells Demetrious of the plans. Then, Demetrious and Helena both follow the young couple into the forest. Once they reach the forest they come along into the fairy world where a fairy gets involved with the four young adults and causes chaos for them all.
William Shakespeare, a British playwright and poet, is born in 1564. The exact day is not known. Shakespeare is baptized on April 25, so they say his birthday is April 23, 1564 (Boyce, Shakespeare). As an infant, he survives the plague that kills tons of people living near him. He is the son of John and Mary Arden Shakespeare. “His father is a prosperous and prominent tradesman, bailiff, and alderman, who suffered a decline in fortune and prestige” (Burt, Shakespeare). His father ran into financial difficulties in Shakespeare’s teen years and did not recover until 20 years later with the help of William. His mother is a member of the next higher social class. There is no record of Shakespeare’s education, although he did attend Stratford Grammar School (Boyce, Shakespeare). At eighteen, Shakespeare marries Anne Hathaway and later they have three children (Burt). Shakespeare writes many tragedies, romances, and comedies. Three main plays are Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth.
