Morals beliefs, having principles that can help someone determine right from wrong. One can also say, rules that govern or determine what a person live by. Everyone has their own morals and beliefs. They choose what they want to do in life, and how they want to live their lives. The fact that we live in a society where everyone has the right to do whatever they want; people take advantage of that. While watching the movie “Mr. Smith goes to Washington” one can see how this man stand up for what he believes in. He stood up for what he thought was right. Mr. Smith went against all of the other senators in the white house, which prove that he was not afraid of judgment. The senators in the White house were using their power for the wrong cause, especially Mr. Taylor. He uses people and make them to do his dirty works. He makes people believe in something he does not even believe himself. Mr. Smith was different. He looks out for his people and he wanted better for them. Even though he did not know much about politics, and did not have much experience; he made a …show more content…
Some people are too afraid to speak up. Not everyone is brave and brilliant like Mr. Smith. What Mr. Smith did takes a lot of courage and respect. Today, not everyone has that courage, and those that do, they do not have Ms. Saunders to lead them in the right direction. The government may have the same morals and ethics that they began with, but they do not practice it the same way. In the movie, the president sat back, listen, and take affirmative actions. Today, the president is doing most of the talking, not listening, and not taking the actions that are necessary. If the government wants people to trust them, they will have to start using their power for good, instead of evil. They will have to start telling the people what is really going and stop withholding important
The main plot of the movie, Mr. Smith goes to Washington is a conflict between Jeff Smith, Senator Paine, and Jim Taylor. A senator of a state passed away causing a new senator needing to be appointed. Jim Taylor a local publicist who had pull around the Senate, pressured the governor to select Jefferson Smith. He was appointed as the new Senator of the State, because everyone thought that he was incompetent, naive, and would not get in their way. However when Smith passed a clever bill that got in the way of Jim Taylor’s scandal, Jim and Senator Paine tried to do whatever they could to get Jeffrey expelled from the Senate.
The main characters in the movie, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, are Jefferson Smith, his secretary Clarissa Saunders, the senior senator from Smith’s state, Joseph Paine, and a newspaper magnate by the name of Jim Taylor. Jefferson Smith is in charge of the Boy Rangers and is avery patriotic but politically inexperienced man. His secretary Clarissa Saunders has lived and worked in Washington for some time and has become disillusioned with politics and tells Smith to go home, that a man like him has no chance in D.C. Senator Joseph Paine is the senior senator in the state he and Smith are representing. Paine’s career success is owed in large part to Jim Taylor, the crooked newspaper man who helped Paine win his seat. Jim Taylor has a large
Melancton Smith was an anti- federalist and was not pleased with how the new Constitution was dealing with representation. Smith wished to see a large government and strongly believed in treating everyone equally no mater what social class they were in. Smith stated, “the number of representatives should be so large that both the rich and the poor people will choose to be representatives.”. Smith believed the people in the middle and lower class would support his views on having a government with no oppression. The lower and middle classes did not want to be seen as less
Values are beliefs people are about what is important and morally right or wrong. The values people obtain are often learnt from parents/carers and they may change constantly throughout life. Principles are based on values; they are the basic guidelines individuals follow about what is the correct way to act. In
I can’t forget the fact that they also provided pictures and videos. The reason why I think President was allowed to expand presidential power in this way is due to the fact that both his team and himself couldn’t a no as an answers. It was as if a teenager was denied permission to go out and jumped out of the window either way. Furthermore, because they couldn’t take a no as an answer they would clearly work their way around the case. Such as that one time when “Congress denied the authority to the president they found another way they went to the Justice Department”. I don’t really remember what it exactly said about checks and balances but I do remember that people were pissed off. People believed that it was time to have check and balances and that, the constitutional tradition of checks and balances was certainly not being respected when Brush was
Morality is a particular system of values and principles of conduct. My interpretation of this is the distinction of right and wrong. Everyone has a personal morals, whether it’s through a group, organization, or just the way their parents brought them up. Morals help create an organized society, they are like unwritten laws. There are so many morals out there the government could not make them all laws, so although morals help govern the world they are not actual laws. Without morals the world would be nothing but chaos. Being honest, fair and just, making the world a better place, respecting others, and being open minded are just a few examples.
He when by what the people of America wanted. In Document 6 it stated “ In a country where offices are created solely for the benefit of the people. On one man has any more…….. right to( government job) than another.” He believes in equal opportunity among male white men.
Mr. Smith is portrayed as an honest man with strong opinions. He is the ideal politician in an ideal society. The film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington depicts a "reassuring image" that happens to be "an image of the past" (Wheeler). However, in today's legislature, people like Mr. Smith are rare due to the fact that a politician's primary goal is re-election. The good of the people may come as another intention of a politician, but it is always secondary to "bringing home the pork." There should be more people like Mr. Smith because the legislature would be able to make decisions more effectively and efficiently, rather than how slowly they currently operate. This is an unfortunate truth, yet it is how our society has been shaped to operate.
He had a humble beginning and that's what drew people to him. Common man voted for him and he won the elections by popular demand. Sam Patch and his loyal followers called Jacksonians, which were the working class whom were people humble and of the land with simple taste. Nothing like the Whig- the elite “superior” class. The Whig had their own leader by the name Henry Clay who believed America should become “richer, wiser, and more technologically advanced.” The two groups took stand for different reasons but only did the Jacksonians actually shed light to the laws being broken by big factory
In the fictitious movie, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, the seat of former U.S. Senator Sam Foley is filled by special appointment with the young Boy Ranger leader, Jefferson Smith. Mr. Smith is thrust into a world of United States politics, of which he has no prior experience. When he makes it to the Senate, the goal of other elected officials from his state is to keep pertinent information from him, seeing him only as a mindless vote. The incumbent senator and others have a plan to push through a Deficiency bill for the Willet Creek dam which will profitable to them. When Mr. Smith is encouraged to draft his own bill, bringing forth
In the film, Mr. Smith is a young politician that is very inexperienced once he gets to the big playing fields in washington. Regardless of this he stays honest throughout his journey, and this is a great quality to have. During his time in Washington and the press would always ask him questions he always told honest answers. His opinions on the bills they voted on were always his honest opinion. Although he was honest he was perceived as naive, he was a young politician and did not know very many of the rule. This was a setback for Mr. Smith when they were discussing bills. At one point in the film Mr. Smith attempts to speak against a bill, but from him not understanding protocol he yields the floor to Paine, who denounces Mr. Smith on charges if using the boys camp for personal gains. Mr. Smith lives his life with integrity, meaning he has strong morals.
Smith became what he loathed simply because the Party tortured him. Smith must not be very strong minded if he would rather choose living in defeat than fighting til
An important aspect of Smith's views, were taxes. In one of Smith's many opinions regarding human nature, he explains that the rich, once placed in a position of power, maintain that power through their dealings within a civil government which employs men of inferior wealth, to protect the wealthy lands of the rich. In layman’s terms a community with the bare minimum has little violence since there is nothing to fight over, but one with plush property and wealth, has a plethora of people fighting over one another. This is where Smith's views of taxes comes into play. In his world, the government would impose taxation, with the intentions of discouraging improper or luxurious behavior which he believed did not benefit society as a whole. (Smith, pp.18-20) When discussing human nature in the sociological spectrum, Smith likens humans to animals, or dogs in particular. The typical reliance of animals, once they're matured,on no one but themselves (becoming independents), is a characteristic that humans do not follow. I believe Smith's
Referring to morality from an individual point of view, each person has strong beliefs about what is wrong and what is right. Moreover, morals differ from person to person and may be due to difference in culture. Morality also results from basic human emotions i.e. love, hate, honesty, greed, sins etc (Psychology Today).
In today’s continuous changing world, the one thing that remains constant for most of us is our personal value system of beliefs, known as ethics. Ethics can also be referred to as morals. Therefore, ethics are those morals that reflect and indicate issues that concern behaviors that are right or wrong and the good and bad habits of individual character. This important standard of beliefs can in most cases create the difference in attitudes from others both
