The novel is about Paul Fisher, a kid with thick glasses, and the adventures he has in his new home in Tangerine florida. Even though Paul himself makes many choices, today were focusing on the choices made by his mother(Mrs.Fisher) and how they affect Paul. Mrs.Fisher often makes major choices that will affect Paul immensely, without Pauls consent or opinion. Even though Paul has very thick glasses he feels he can …show more content…
Mrs.Fisher saw how much the IEP affected paul and so when Paul transferred she said to Paul “ Your IEP form disappeared somewhere between Lake Windsor and here” page 105. If she had kept the IEP Paul wouldn't have been able to play soccer wich was the whole reason he transferred. Mrs.Fisher knew how much Paul loved soccer and how the IEP that said he was blind which prevented him from playing, so she did what any decent mother would have done and removed it from his file. A final choice made by Mrs.Fisher was keeping the truth on how Pauls eyesight got so bad from Paul. Throughout the book Mrs.Fisher told Paul that he damaged his eyesight by looking at an eclipse for to long, however he later discovered the truth that his brother Erik spray painted his eyes “ And I remembered Erik’s fingers prying my eyelids open while Vincent Castor sprayed white paint into them.”page 263-264. Mrs.Fisher thought that telling Paul that he looked to long at a solar eclipse was the best way to keep Paul from hating his brother Erik. However as he is quoted saying “So you figured it would be better if i just hated myself?” page 265. This shows that he blamed himself for his eyesight and that it caused some emotional conflict within
Mrs. Fisher made a choice to make Paul an IEP and turn it into Lake Windsor Middle School. This affected him in many ways. One is that he could not play soccer at Lake Windsor because of insurance issues. Another is that Paul was assigned Theresa as his ‘guide’, which had very nice results. Theresa introduced Paul to Coach Bright This was a very good thing. Mom made the IEP form as she as trying to be the caring
Tangerine by Edward Bloor is a book about family, friends, and trust. If you like those things, you’ll probably like this book. It covers things such as loss, making new friends, moving and having to switch everything, and people not being who you thought they were. These are topics everyday people deal with, which is why Tangerine is such a great book. The main characters are relatable and I found myself loving the characters as I read the book. Tangerine is dramatic and exciting, two very popular things in books all over the world in every genre. Tangerine by Edward Bloor is a very good book that has been nominated for an Edgar Award for Best Young Adult. It is an engrossing novel with diverse characters.
Imagine waking up every morning smelling smoke from a muck fire that will never go away. In the book, Tangerine by Edward Bloor, the main character, Paul Fisher, faces many choices that affect him in positive and negative ways. Paul is a young boy that has the struggle of moving from Houston, Texas to Tangerine, Florida. This can be a hard change for anybody. Paul makes many decisions that affect himself. First, he tells the police on Erik for being involved with the death of Luis Cruz, two he choses to go to Tangerine Middle school because he did not need an iep anymore so he had the opportunity to play soccer, and finally he decides to jump on coach Warner’s back . The choices Paul makes, and the consequences of those choices, affect the development of his character.
The choices that Erik made throughout his life never came without consequences, many of his choices, whether they were choices directed to him or not, affected Paul. Paul illustrates this idea by saying, “When we moved to Houston, when Erik was eleven, he realized that football was the star attraction,”(Bloor 29) This is talking about the “birth” of the “Erik Fisher Football Dream”; Erik use to play soccer and was successful at it, but he realized that football was the place to be if he wanted attention. Paul could’ve started playing soccer at that time as well and Erik didn’t want to risk being outshined by his younger brother. Another way Erik affected Paul, in a more indirect way, was when Arthur becomes Erik’s crony, “What will Arthur do
In the end paul remembers that erik put paint on paul's eyes that why paul is blind.Paul went to new middle school st anthony. Luis Cruz died because arthur killer luis. Mr.fisher take him to his new school.
Fisher paid attention to Erik, even though he had done such a terrible thing to Paul. Overall, Paul’s parents have been telling him a lie his whole life and this made him hate himself. The lie was that he is legally blind because he stared at a Solar Eclipse, but the reason he is legally blind is because Erik and Vincent 's spray painted his eyes. This is emotional for Paul because his whole life he has been led to believe otherwise, but now he hates how his mom, stood up for Erik.
A choice made by Erik Fisher affected Paul by Making him blind. “...I remembered Erik’s fingers prying my eyelids open while Vincent Castor sprayed white paint into them’’, Page 264 . Erik chose to do this because he thought that Paul snitched on Vincent and Erik, so they gave him “payback”. Paul was told that he looked at a solar eclipse which made him blind but was later revealed to him that it was Erik and his Goon’s Fault, which enraged him.
One way that Erik Fisher has affected Paul is that he is the cause of Paul’s blindness. To begin with, Edward Bloor writes from the view of Paul “And I remembered Erik’s fingers prying my eyelids open while Vincent Castor sprayed white paint into them.” This is evidence that Erik Fisher had a big role in damaging Paul’s eyes, because he was the one that opened Paul’s eyes for the white spray paint which blinded him. Also Bloor writes about how Dad tells Paul that “The doctors told us that you might never remember. And we figured that was the best way to handle the situation.” This explains that Erik was, for sure, the cause of Paul’s blindness. It also mentions why Paul didn’t remember being blinded by Erik, for a while, and why his parents never told him of this incident. Because of Erik, Paul has to live with
But when Paul is forced to leave Lake Windsor Middle School and go to Tangerine Middle School, he encounters a whole new way of life. The kids aren't as wealthy as the Lake Windsor kids, but Paul ends up fitting in better there than he did in his first school.
Many characters made careless choices in the book that affected Paul but Eric made the most. In the book Tangerine, Eric’s choices and the consequences of his choices affected the development of Paul in three ways. When Eric hit Tino and when Paul figured out that Eric was the reason he was blind. Paul is a boy who just moved from Texas to Florida. He moves to a place called Lake Windsor Downs. He goes to school at Lake Windsor Downs Middle School, but there was a tragedy at that school so he moved to Tangerine Middle School. He goes out for the Tangerine soccer team and makes it. Then horrible things start happening.
“So there I sat, Erik Fisher's younger brother, Eclipse Boy, visually impaired and totally incapable of following in his brother's footsteps.” Paul began as a boy who was unconfident, and always hidden by his brother shadow, but in the end became brave hero who saved classmates from a sinkhole and built up the courage to stand up to his horribly cruel brother. Paul Fisher changed into what seems like a completely different character, one transformed by incredible experiences and hardships. To conclude, in the novel Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, Paul moves to Florida a shy momma’s boy, but as he gains confidence, he learns to make his own choices and follow his gut.
First, one choice Erik made was to call Paul, ‘eclipse boy’. Many bullied Paul and saw him as a weak individual. Paul thought of himself to be a freak show on display. On page 35 of Tangerine, Paul stated, “So there I sat on that yellow bus - Erik Fisher’s younger brother, Eclipse boy, visually impaired and totally incapable of following in his brother’s footsteps.” The quote shows that Paul considers himself to be incapable of being normal. Erik’s choice had cause Paul to think that he has no chance of being popular and loved. If Erik hadn’t made fun of Paul, perhaps this chain of events wouldn’t have occurred.
In the fiction novel, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor describes the importance of friendship, fear, and bravery. The main character Paul Fisher moves with his family to Tangerine and he finds himself growing as a person. His older brother, Erik, is a riffian, but no one sees him as the psycho that Paul perceives. Paul befriends cool kids from his new school, Tangerine Middle School. They respect him and he realizes that he is not a nerd anymore, but a soccer player and a friend. He was always scared of Erik and what he might do. However, when Luis, a tangerine farmer, that is also his friends’ brother, dies, he starts to realize he is stronger than he really is and starts to stand up for himself, just like Luis did to Erik. In the novel Tangerine, Edward bloor uses
One choice in particular that greatly impacted Paul’s future in Tangerine was when his mother decided to inform his new principal of his eyesight disability, giving him a label of a disabled student that he did not want to receive. Mrs. Fisher was only benefitting herself when she pressed Mrs.
Paul has got an old university friend, a character who is very important for this book. His name is Ed Finnerty. He is the fatal character for Paul because he is the one who makes Paul realize his real position and all the people's real positions. He is
