After graduating from high school, I was accepted into my city’s medical school and started my career as a physician. However, Venezuela is currently filled with corruption, economic burdens, and violence; thus, after one semester, I decided to leave everything behind and move to the United States for a better future. Even though I had to start from zero, I want to pursue my dreams no matter the time it takes. Every action and every decision made me who I am today; transitioning to a new country, completing my pre-medical requirements, being involved in the community, participating in research, and having leadership roles are aspects that have aided shape my passion for medicine.
When I was 10 years old, my mother and I volunteered in one of my hometown’s poorest hospitals. Witnessing the conditions and the burden patients had to get health treatment made me have an interest in health care. As I began taking science classes, I realized how fascinating the human body was. My intrigue for science subjects left me wanting to learn more and made me become a tutor for my classmates. After a few years, I am still a tutor but now at the University level. This has allowed me to practice my skills in science courses while aiding students. I have developed leadership skills while serving the community. After a year of being a member of Allied Health Professions Society, I was chosen as the Volunteer Coordinator. I created an agreement with Project CURE in which AHPS compromised to
While growing up, there are innumerable decisions to be made and paths to take. As I am approaching the ending point of my high school career, I have finally found the correct one for me. I have known from a surprisingly young age that I wish to pursue a job in the medical field, and have taken a number of steps to help achieve this dream. I show tremendous passion for both my educational and career goals, and how to reach them. My future is incredibly important to me because through doing my job, I will also be achieving my biggest goal: saving lives.
I have learned from my experience that there is no better place in this world other than this country to learn about new cases or to do a research project or to avail the best treatments to my patients. With the latest technologies and rare cases found here, I wish to pursue my career as an internist in the United States.I have many attributes to contribute to Internal Medicine. My family has taught me the values of hardwork, honesty, dedication and commitment to goals.I am a critical thinker and problem solver and I will deliver all these to my residency program. Each patient is a educator for me and this teaching attracts me to academics and I look forward to being part of an institution that provides a healthy learning environment based on open
Throughout my life, I have been offered many opportunities, including coming to America and being accepted into a private boarding school to further advance my education. I am grateful for the chances offered to me so far, knowing that everybody is not as fortunate as I am. Friends and family, who are proud of my accomplishments, continuously express how much they would sacrifice to be given opportunities such as mine. Since life has offered me such generous choices, I feel like it is only appropriate to give back by using all my resources to become somebody that can aide others. Knowing what the Mini-Medical School Program can teach me, this program is another resource I can use to help others. I don’t waste opportunities, I take full advantage
I have been very involved in HOSA (Future Health Professionals) which has allowed me to discover and pursue my interest in the medical field. HOSA has health career competitions, where I was able to compete at the state level in Sports Medicine, win 2nd Place in state level Pathophysiology and compete internationally in Pathophysiology. At HOSA conferences I have gotten to meet professionals and learn more about their fields, ranging from cardiothoracic surgery to chiropractic medicine. HOSA has influenced my future in a way that inspired me to help others pursue their interest in the medical field because of that I became the VP of Service. As VP of Service, I lead volunteer activities including the school blood drive and decorating the Northeast
I have some quality volunteer experience, such as rebuilding houses in New Orleans after Katrina and rebuilding houses in Joplin after the tornado. These experience helped me gain further insight on how to comfort and restore confidence in individuals who are in great need. In addition to these volunteering experiences, I have shadowed various doctors and nurses throughout the Saint Louis area. During each experience, grow more confident as well as more anxious in becoming a nurse. These shadowing occasions have granted me better understanding of how to maintain a balance between professional composer and care giving. Currently I am working at a summer camp for kids. This experience has taught me about responsibility and leadership. All experiences have contributed to an overall understanding of the medical field as well as human
My career goals consists of graduating from a four year college and applying to medical school, where I would continue my education to become a physician. Since the medical field consists of rigorous and tedious tasks, I need to further reinforce my critical and social skills. The LSAMP program offers workshops that can help me meet other like minded people all while reinforcing my critical thinking skills. Joining this program would benefit me greatly by exposing me to several social environments. These social environments can help me develop and strengthen my social skills; skills that would further prepare me for the strenuous challenge that accompanies medical school. Leadership skills are also crucial in becoming a physician, which is
One memorable day at Lincoln Northeast High School, I was walking in the halls when a student in front of me suddenly collapsed. He started shaking from head to toe. I froze for a few seconds which felt like an eternity, then I shouted for help. The kid continued to vigorously shake with saliva foaming from his mouth. At the time, I didn’t know that the student was experiencing a seizure. I just remember standing there, watching and not knowing what to do. I wanted to help but I did not know how. Time slowed down; I thought he would never stop shaking. After reflecting on what happened, I decided to pursue a career in the healthcare because I wanted to help people. I wanted to know what to do in situations like this. I hated standing there and not being able to do anything.
In 10 years, I hope to be a graduate from the University of California, Riverside, School of Medicine and be a practicing physician in Southern California. Though I will thoroughly explore all specialties, I have a particular interest in pediatrics. With frequent visits to the doctor’s office due to illnesses and infections from my vesicoureteral reflux, the health care setting became a place I was comfortable with. I developed a strong relationship with my pediatrician and aspired to be like him. Becoming a pediatrician would allow me the privilege of watching my patients grow up and develop a relationship with them and their families. The root of my interest lies with my love for working with children. Throughout high school, I thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering at a summer camp for elementary school children. My recent experiences tutoring disadvantaged children through Project Literacy at UCLA and volunteering at Kids Come First Community Health Center in Ontario have confirmed my decision to pursue pediatrics. My time at Kids Come First has exposed me to the health issues those in Inland Southern California are facing. Through my time at UCR School of Medicine, I hope to develop strong relationships with nearby hospitals and clinics, so that I would have the opportunity to continue serving that region. I would also love to incorporate my passion in community service into my career. I want to not only focus on healing individual patients, but improve the health of
I found my interest when I volunteered at my local Hospital. I decided to volunteer there because I found it to be a great way to not only volunteer, but to have a bit of insight as to how a career in the medical field works. In the summer of 2016, I volunteered every weekday except Friday at Kingwood Medical Center. I was placed in Pediatrics, ICU. Every shift was four hours. On Thursday and any other day I could, I volunteered for eight hours. On a Thursday I got ready to head out to my shift. I entered through the south tower, and clocked in. Every thursday I was set to go to pediatrics center. Sadly, the pediatrics center never really had much patients, so there wasn’t much to do. Mrs. Aaron, who was in charge of the volunteer department,
As a child, I was an avid reader, adopting the perspective of any character stronger, braver, more determined, more anything than myself: I was a pirate, I was a graveyard boy, I was one of James’ insect friends and fellow peach inhabitants.
The pursuit of a career in medicine began in the winter of 2014, and since then I have faced challenges along this path. Regardless of the obstacle, the unwavering resolve I have for becoming a physician has allowed me to clear the hurdles in life and academia. The past 18 months have continued to fortify my decision through academic success and clinical experiences.
Pediatrician, a medical practitioner specializing in children and their diseases, is a career I want to pursue to help children, discover cures, and to further my knowledge. I have been very interested in being a Pediatrician ever since I was in elementary school. Nursing has been a dream of mine because I have always loved to help people, and treat them in any way possible. I have become even more interested in nursing around last year, my uncle had been hit by a drunk driver and he was in the ICU for over a week. Seeing him in that condition and observing how the doctors took care of him helped me in my decision on wanting to go into the nursing field, but has changed my mind to treating children instead of adults.
With a keen interest in science and a plan to pursue a career in medicine, I am naturally drawn to this course. Through Investigations in Bioscience and Biotechnology, I can dive deep into research and studies on evolving diseases and potential cures. The study of bioscience and biotechnology will give me the unique opportunity to immerse myself in the evolution of how we diagnose diseases and benefit patients. As technology becomes more advanced, medical professionals can analyze a patient’s genetics and help detect diseases early on. This information in turn helps patients leverage preventative medicine to support their health during the early stages, when treatment is the most effective. The intersection of bioscience and biotechnology has
I was born and rose in rural lower middle class family where nearest health care provider was 30 kilometers away from my village. There was only single physician treating a wide spectrum of patients ranging from newborn babies to old age peoples. Living in such scariest health care, I lost my younger sister and mother unnaturally. Events and life experiences I have faced, some time change or affect our mind so that we start to think in a particular direction, later on it becomes our passion. And, I have no hesitation to admit that I started to think about to be a physician since my childhood. Activities like routine school health checkup, the red-cross society’s selfless relief camps in natural calamities and countless other experiences strengthened my resolve.
