My family came to American in the mid-1800’s from Germany. My ancestors were farmers, but sadly that does not stand true today. Maybe a garden here and there, but nothing quite like we use to. My family now has a wide spread of different jobs ranging from Ministry to Human Resources Specialist. My grandma on my mother’s side has recently passed away and for the majority of my life she did not work due to health problems. When she did work, she worked for a pottery in a local town of Robinson, Illinois. My grandfather on my mother’s side was originally from Kentucky and he was in the Air Force during his younger years and then as he began to settle down he worked for Marathon also in Robinson, Illinois. My grandma on my father’s side was the oldest of her 6 siblings and worked for ER More when the business was still afloat. She later worked for the local People’s State Bank of Newton, Illinois. My grandfather on my father’s side was similar to that of my grandmother on my mother’s side because he has not worked for all of my life due to the twelve surgeries he has had. He once worked at the same pottery that my grandmother worked for. My mother, 44, has worked for The Hershey Company in Robinson, Illinois for the majority of her life. She started at the bottom and is now the Human Resource Specialist of the plant and is the best at what she does. Conveniently, my dad also has worked for Hershey the majority of his life and he does the inventory for the plant. My parents met
My mother’s family is relatively new to America, early 20th century, and had migrated here from Bohemia (one of the Czech lands) after many political changes were occurring in Europe; which, eventually lead to the Great War (World War I). In their exodus from Europe all of their wealth was left behind and they only brought to America what they could carry. After arriving to the United States of America my ancestors immediately became successful with ambition and entrepreneurship. No one in my family stands idly by, nor do any of us stand around waiting for welfare. We are all very educated and successful and we have no tolerance for laziness and whining. My stepfather’s family is also from a highly successful and educated background; however, his family were in America since the Crowne. His family is linked to Thomas Jefferson, via marriage, and has had involvement with many of America’s great moment in history, such as, his families lumber company provided the wood for the first five frigates commissioned by Jefferson during the Barbary War. My biological father too has an in-depth history here in America. His family mostly were military officers in many of the countries early wars; i.e., French Indian Wars, Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, etc. Overall, I have quite an extensive
Many people have ways of influencing others. Most people use words to affect other people. An amount of individuals would utilize their gift of persuasion to convince others of their causes or maybe arguments, while some use authority to force people to do as they are told. These several differences can apply to fathers as well. Not all fathers are similar when it comes to educating their children. Many are gentle, while some are more dominant. Randy T Caldwell, a somewhat young spirited middle aged man. Dark skinned with black Gucci frames to accommodate his big brown eyes. Standing 5’11, board shoulders, happy, loving, man of
Although single parenthood is on the rise in homes today, children still often have a father role in their life. It does not matter who the part is filled by: a father, uncle, older brother, grandfather, etc...; in almost all cases, those relationships between the father (figure) and child have lasting impacts on the youth the rest of their lives. In “I Wanted to Share My Father’s World,” Jimmy Carter tells the audience no matter the situation with a father, hold onto every moment.
One event that defined a part of my life that involved literacy was when I had to write a
Growing up I came from a family of two sisters and a brother. My parents worked hard to be sure that there was always a roof over our head, food on the table, and clothes on our back. My worked for various companies until he was able to obtain his degree as an electrical technician. Today he maintains his own business known as McGhee Electric. My mother also took on various jobs to make ends meet. She began work as a cosmetologist and
Annoyed at this, I turned once again and lay on my back. I took a deep
I come from a working class family. My dad recently retired after working 27 years at a job and now he is working at ???. Nothing came easy to him at his first job and I watched him work so hard to accomplish promotions that he deserved. He went to a two-year college and was able to get a job. When he wanted to get these promotions he started to go back to school online and now he has his bachelors. My mom never went to college but she stayed home with my brother and me because of my dad working. Both of my parents believed in me, which made me want to work and try so hard. They made
My maternal grandfather was an immigrant from Sicily, Italy, who came over on a boat to Ellis Island, with his mother and two older siblings to pursue a better life with opportunity. He became a “scholarship boy” (Rodriguez 49) and through determination and hard work, he became a civil engineer, designed infrastructures and developed inventions for the government, and was extremely successful. My maternal grandmother on the other hand, was born and raised in the United States, with her family lineage tracing back to the Donner party and distant relative, William Wallace. My grandparents met in Southern California, married, and settled in Santa Barbara. Being of Catholic faith, my grandmother became a stay at home mother, and conceived nine children. When my mother was in middle school, her parents divorced, and they were left to be raised by my grandmother, with the financial support of my grandfather. Being a newly divorced woman, my grandmother began to partake in the lifestyle of the 70’s/ early 80’s. My mother being
When my grandparents first came to this country after World War II, they were starting their life here, with nothing, in search of new beginnings. My grandmother and grandfather were both people who had learned from their parents that a strong work ethic will earn them what they want to get back out of life. They came to this country together after meeting in Germany, where my grandmother lived and my grandfather was stationed. Since my grandfather knew a friend in America who had agreed to sponsor them and take them in. When first here, they worked and lived with this friend until they had enough money to survive on their own. Both of my grandparents started working for Swift Meat Company before working at Campbell’s Soup Company and Nabisco Cookies. My grandmother always says how back in the day, if you did not like the job you were at, you could easily leave and find another job. Employers were waiting for people to come over from Europe and begin working because the labor was needed in order to make this country run. They both dedicated their free time to their three children and working to provide for the family. My grandfather would work days and my grandmother would work nights, only spending an hour a day together as a family for dinner time, before one parent had to leave. My grandmother’s final job was at Wrigley’s Gum Company,
My great grandfather’s name was Anthony Iaconetti and he was originally born and raised for the younger part of his life in Italy. He migrated to the United States and came through Ellis Island when he was in his late twenties. When he arrived in New York, he started working in the printing business where he made phone books, directories, newspapers, etc. My great grandmother Catherine was currently living in the United States at the time but opened up her own candy shop. They met each other randomly, started dating and eventually got married. They had three children one of them being my grandmother. My grandmother, Kathy, grew up in New York her whole life and still remains a current resident. As a child, she worked for her mother’s Candy Store where she was in charge of the cash register and putting candy in little bags for the customers. She met my grandfather on a blind date, and at the time he was in the United States Marine Corps. After his contract was up with the Marine’s he started working as a mechanic for American Airlines. While he was working there my grandmother was working as a secretary for the FBI. Later on they decided to get married and had three children, one of them being my father. My grandparents in New York are the typical New York Italian family. They appreciate and love their food, everything is made from scratch, and they are
My dad was born in Switzerland and grew up in France, when he came to San Francisco he decided to open a restaurant. My mom is from New York and came to San Francisco to further her college education. one of the most inspiring things about my family for me is the fact that both my grandfathers at one point in time were millionaires; however, how they achieved their success is very contrasting. My father's father was born in Dusseldorf, Germany where he grew up quite wealthy due to his family owning a large machine manufacturing company. He inherited the company and lived a wealthy life, he married 3 times; the 3rd time being my grandmother who was a young, poor Slovenian laborer who had snuck in to west Europe from the communist east. Unfortunately my father's father died before I could meet him, but the stories I hear about him from my dad and my grandmother are inspiring. My mother’s father whom I live with to this day however did not have the opportunities my other grandfather did. He is an African American who was born in Mississippi 1919, at this time the Jim Crow laws were in full effect and the great depression was about to hit America. Growing up he experienced legal
After moving to the United States, the separation from my grandmother was tough for me, but through the past seven years, I have developed as a person by using the values that I learned from her. I have committed myself to continue working hard to help my family. During summer time in my junior year, I was dedicated to find a job to support myself financially and help out my dad with paying some of our household expenses. I worked at Panera Bread as a cashier and barista. It was challenging at first because the job was not just about serving people, it was about meeting their full satisfaction. There were some days that I really wanted to quit. For instance one day I was ringing this guy, an old man, he was having a hard time figuring out the
Have you ever had a hero in your life, someone that is always there for you when you need them? I did, I called him "my dad." My dad was the only person that could make me laugh when I was feeling down. My dad was that person who had so much love for his family. My dad was the person who I could call and he'd always pick up. My dad was the person who would drop everything just to help me. My dad was the biggest hero in my life and to this day, still is.
It was a normal day Brayden, Seth and I just got done with basketball practice. We were wondering if we had plans for the remainder of the day.
"Never forget the past…because it may haunt you forever. Regret all the bad things…cherish the good things. Look ahead always…but don't let the bad things from the past get in your mind." As a young child, there were so many incidents in my life that made me become the person I am today. There were rough times as well as good times. If I were to tell you all of them, I would remember half of them. I think some of my incidents really had some impact, and some were just simple ways of life. To tell you the truth, the incident that had the most impact on me has to be when my real father left me at the age of three. I never knew my father. I mean being a baby, you really have no experience or recognition of somebody else.
