With every experience comes a lesson and I believe that to be true with every life experience that I have been through. Throughout high school especially, I have participated in the important activities that shaped me to be the person I am today. Between the classes that I have taken, the people I have formed friendships with, and the activities I have been a part of, I am someone who has taken lessons from each of those aspects and put them into my daily life to make me a better person. To begin, being a member of the Sauk Rapids Dance Team has taught me numerous life skills which also includes working as a team to reach a common goal. I will take this skill with me to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to accomplish whatever tasks needed with a group. I also will influence others with this particular skill and hopefully reach out to fellow classmates, working together towards whatever goal is set. Dance has let me show my artistic and creative side for the past 16 years. I now see life through a new light and look at the simpler sides of what life has to offer. I believe I am optimistic and have the ability to find the good in any situation. …show more content…
Being voted DECA treasurer and officer shows that I am a trustworthy and dependable individual. Being a member of DECA has taught me a tremendous amount of skills that relate to my future. I know the proper etiquette for a job interview, professional setting, or meeting of any sort. I also have gained skills such as time efficiency, which will apply to my future when having a deadline to meet, studying for an exam, or completing assignments on time. DECA has shown my analytical thinking style and has shown me how to stand out in a large crowd by being
As a youth, I engaged in many forms of dance expression. I studied tap, jazz, and ballet for fifteen years. During these formative years, I choose to forgo many youth experiences so that I could participate in advance dance programs. The hard work paid off when I received a college scholarship to a performing arts
Throughout my life I have participated in a variety of activities that have shaped who I am today. I believe that these life experiences, commitments and characteristics I have developed will be beneficial to the UW-La Crosse campus community.
If they were easily achievable, they wouldn’t be driving, they wouldn’t be influential in our daily lives. My goal is to dance professionally for as long as possible. I don’t want to limit myself, I want to be completely involved. I hope to dance all over the world, constantly immersed in the arts, and always moving. I want to join companies, book gigs, dance in the streets, anything and everything. My goal is to look back when I can no longer dance and have no regrets, no wishes or disappointments. I intend to pursue dance in college because I love it. That’s the simplest way to put it. I would love to learn how to express myself even more, take risks, and push myself to achieve things I never could have imagined. With George Mason’s excellent reputation, I’m sure this would be the perfect place to achieve these aspirations. I appreciate the outstanding program that you have to offer, and I would be delighted to take part in
I have served in DECA as an officer since 10th grade when I was chosen to be Sophomore Representative. I have made it to the state level and received at least one award each year since starting in 9th grade. I also served as CFO in 11th grade, the youngest person to hold the position. During this time, I set up an inventory and sales tracking system for the school’s concession stand which serves as a fundraiser for competitors and the club. I was also chosen to be one of two Co-Presidents of the club for my senior year, and am working towards an even more successful club than of years
In conclusion, I was able to express myself, relate to my peers, and make many memorable experiences. All of these things helped shape the person I am today. However, not all experiences were pleasant. During the sixth grade all state choir, a girl fell down and started having seizures. I did not know who she was; I had never met her. Nevertheless, I felt curiously concerned for her wellbeing. I will never forget that experience. After the incident, we had a closer
I danced at Tina’s Dance Studio in Eldridge, Iowa for 12 consecutive years before I graduated high school. There I studied in ballet, pointe, contemporary, modern, lyrical, tap, jazz, hip-hop, musical theater, gymnastics and clogging. I was also a part of the competition team for eight years. We not only did local competitions and conventions, but we traveled and went to nationals in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City. I also danced in shows in Disney World and on a Carnival Cruise Ship. In high school, I was on the varsity Dance Team winning three state titles in pom and lyrical eventually traveling to Nationals. A few summers ago, I trained with Hubbard Street Dance in Chicago with their summer intensive focusing on modern, contemporary and ballet. During my senior year of high school and this past summer I taught classes in jazz, tap and contemporary for students 8-16 years old. I also self-choreographed three competition solos. Here, at Ohio University, I am a member of the dance team doing dances at football and basketball games.
Prior to writing this essay, I sat down with my mom to come up with ideas on stories that have made me who I am today. That is when I realized I have made more personal growth in the past four years of my high school career that I have before this period of time. I am ending my high school career with more knowledge than I ever expected.
In my junior year of high school, I learned a valuable lesson and had to come to terms with
DECA chapter members. I play an important role in recruiting new members and handling financing and I attend all weekly meetings to discuss strategies for improving our chapter and other DECA council matters. My leadership, commitment, and collaboration to DECA has taught me how to communicate concepts and how to organize a presentation. Being an active member of the council has opened many doors for me in my professional life. The previous summer I applied for a job as
Somewhere were I would had to audition and really work hard to get into the department, not just academically but a dance school that would judge me based on my talent. There was something about California that could not compare to Texas. Therefore, I decided to move back to Texas and audition at Sam Houston State University. My new challenge was, me auditioning for one of the 30 spots offered annually, and making sure they saw something in me that the other 860 dancers did not have. After a long day of dancing, and waiting 3 weeks for the response I got a phone call, it was Sam Houston State University announcing my acceptance to the department of dance. My family and I were incredibly happy, and I knew a new adventure was on my way. Not only did it increase my passion for dance, but by me being accepted into the department I felt secure that I was heading in the right direction. That no matter what challenge I was introduce to I was going to conquer it and achieve it if
Since I have been in this class I have gotten the opportunity to hear about many different directing styles and team philosophies. This semester I got a chance to listen to Abby Payne, Tracey Anderson, and Kellie Jackson-Jandt. From listening to their experiences and drawing back on my own experiences I have learned a lot about how I would want to lead my team.
My high school career taught me very important lessons in how to succeed in my academics and as a student. I have always been that type of student that
The dance community that surrounds me has been the most impactful in my life. My mother first signed me up for dance classes when I was only four years old, and now almost fifteen years later I am still dancing. I started out at a dance studio in Gresham, Oregon, where I then danced for ten years. I took classes, performed, and started competing against other dancers and studios around when I was nine years old. It didn’t hit me that I enjoyed performing until I started dancing in more and more shows. Dance was a struggle for many years at this specific studio. There was a lot of moves that I couldn’t do, and I got left behind, as the other dancers my age improved and became more flexible. I felt like I owed the teachers, staff, and other
Currently, as a junior, I feel that the past three of high school have tremendously shaped my character. Arriving at the doorsteps of Manatee High School, I knew little of leadership, or service. To me, high school was and still is a journey. I've learned to give back to those who have helped me. Through various extracurricular activities, I've not only learned to be a team member, but a leader as well.
Throughout my education, I had so many challenges I had to overcome. Dealing with school, personal life, and sports. Dealing with all of these problems has shaped me up as a person. I know now how to work for what I want, nothing is handed to me in life. That is something everyone needs to know, and now I know.
