My work experience professor, Deborah Kitchin, gave a presentation during our class orientation in October 2017 and stated that the aim of the course is to learn while working. I truly believe this class has helped me achieve that goal. During the past two-and-a-half months that I have worked at my current job, I have gained valuable insight about not only customer service and communication, but also general workplace etiquette. However, there are still a few aspects of my work experience that I would like to improve, especially considering I plan to build a career in the music industry. I was born and raised in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco. When I was two years old, a doctor diagnosed me with borderline autism, a disorder that affects my social and communication skills but also enhances some of my natural abilities. For instance, I have played the piano by ear since the age of three, which laid the groundwork for my journey towards my dream career as a music producer. Additionally, I am exceptionally bright and hard-working; during all three years of middle school, an educational organization celebrated me and numerous African-American youth in San Francisco for maintaining a GPA of 4.0 or close to it. This has made my family incredibly proud and may even inspire my younger brother, a junior in high school, to achieve the same aspiration. Aside from producing music, I have recently taken up songwriting; I enjoy thinking about lyric and
Yes, everyone has their stories and their tales and I have mine. Out of the plenty stories that I have experienced and lives through, my elementary experience was are still is, my most memorable and crucial story of my life. It all started like any other kid’s story back in elementary school: woke up, get dropped off, learned something new, get picked up, do homework, sleep, and repeat. For me, it was slightly different and when I mean different, I mean lonely. Once I entered class, everyone was wild and someone had to say something to talk about and for me, I didn’t have anyone to go to. Once I wanted to speak to someone, I didn’t know how to start a conversation with them because how shy I was, and I didn’t know what to say that would interest them or relate to what they were saying. Since class actually started, everyone had to step down and do what they’ve been told by a superior power, who could make or break our day in a matter of minutes. When it was time for recess, that's when everyone started to become who they are, through actions with and to others on the playground with little to no supervision by adults. I had no one to go to and no where to stay, so I kept walking around the playground until the bell rung. Then we had to get through class and went home to end the day. One day was different and changed my little childhood life. During recess, a group of kids decided to come up to me and talk to me, even offered to join
I have been diagnosed with dyslexia and was awarded the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship for children who are twice gifted. With that scholarship, I decided to attend Jemicy lower school from 6th -8th grade. Jemicy is a school that prides its self on teaching kids with dyslexia and other learning disabilities how to be successful in and out of the class room. In middle school I played soccer, basketball and lacrosse each year. Throughout my middle and high school years, I’ve spent my summers volunteering at summer camps and other organizations that aim to help clean up the Baltimore bay and the surrounding community. In my final year of high school I won Miss Congeniality and came in second place for the most adds raised during the Delta Sigma
During my field work experience, I got the opportunity to work with my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Francisca Gachett, who has been teaching for over 11 years. She worked between 2005 and 2013 in community school with students with special needs and English Language Learners children. She then furthered her career in the Department of Education, working in District 75, where she has taught for the last three years. She got the opportunity to work within an ICT, 6:1:1, and 12:1:1: settings. As Mrs. Gachett continues to grow working with Special Education, where her love grows stronger for her students. She creates a bond with her students which makes them felt loved and wanted in the classroom. Mrs. Gachett don’t believe in the no child left behind act. She believe that the no child left behind should not related to special needs children. Special needs children testing are not able to grasp the curriculum that required. They are not advance enough to cultivate in that population as the regular students. The purpose for her believe is that each students need someone to believe in them. Believe that no matter what stage they’re in, they can still be the person they want to be. Mrs. Gachett says “when I look at my students, I see them as how I see my own children.” Mrs. Gachetty was blessed to have two children of her own. She says that “I treat my students the same way I would want my children to be treated. I want them to be comfortable and confidence in their classroom, where
I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I grew up with both of my African-American parents as a single child. I had many friends and was very active. I loved playing basketball and playing the piano. My favorite subjects were history and politics. I felt normal, but was born with a couple defects such as bad vision and low tolerance to pain. However, it never
Thank you for reading my work - I'm glad you enjoy it and might find it useful.
At approximately 1400 on Wednesday, March 9,2016 I arrived at 7810 Shaver Rd for my Internship with the Portage Department of public safety. I meet with LT.VandenBrink he then told me that I would be riding with an officer today. The officer's name was officer Mike Kline. I went and put my vest on and then meet with kline as soon as he arrived to the station from a call he was on. When Kline arrived I introduced myself we were about to head out when he remembered that he had to pick up a paper he printed off. After he got the paper we went ot to his car we left the station and he informed me that we would be driving around the portage Rd area because he was waiting on a call about some apartments that he might have to go to and sweep for and
After taking this class, I found myself applying what I had learned into daily life. Over the summer I worked as a waitress at a popular restaurant in my hometown. This job experience not only allowed me to engage in communication skills with customers but also with my fellow employees.
I am the oldest of two boys, living in a suburb of Baltimore, MD. I grew up watching my parents start two successful businesses from scratch. Their work ethic and passion for success have greatly influenced me, inspiring me to always strive for excellence. Also, I struggled socially as a child, having to push myself to socialize and connect with my peers. I came into my own towards the end of middle school, but I still value the sense of self-awareness and individuality that this challenge brought
I'm a songwriter first and foremost and having said that, being out on the road for an extended period time taught me the real difference between being an artist and a songwriter. The high is vastly different between the two and each have their unique just rewards.
I was born in San Francisco, California on January 22, 1998. Unfortunately, my birth father was murdered when I was two years old. I grew up in the Bayview district with my mother, stepfather, and younger brother. Growing up, my family did not have much money, but we did have each other. My grandmother truly inspired my Christian faith; when I was eight years old, I attended a Teddy Bear Tea Party at Acts Full Gospel Church of God in Christ in Oakland, California. Since then, the church has become my second home. Around the same time my father was killed, I was diagnosed with borderline autism at the age of two, so I am not as social as many of my peers and I lose my temper fairly easily. However, this may explain my drive to succeed and my ability to easily befriend other people
It’s interesting to me that I’m learning how to teach. The course material I learned in EDUC 2130 gave me a brighter perspective when I observed and mentored children during my field experience. The educational psychology theories and practices opened my eyes to concepts I could identify with at my field experience site. The 20 hours of field experience impacted me in a positive way - intensifying my desire to become a teacher. Mentoring and observing students altered my perception and gave me a better understanding of a teacher’s role in the classroom. It was a necessary task that all educational majors should do.

My practicum experience has been a great way for me to gain practical experience in my field. It provided valuable educational opportunities by giving me hands on activities that coincided with my collegiate classroom education. I am very fortunate to be a part of a great opportunity that has been nothing less than reward and more than what I expected. Throughout this experience, I was able to apply academic know-how to on the job situations, gain knowledge that cannot be taught in a classroom, gain experience that cannot be taught in a classroom, work with experienced professionals in my field, and ultimately the chance to consider the value and appeal of obtaining a career in Healthcare management and marketing.
For my volunteer experience I chose to go to YMCA which stands for Young Men’s Christian Association. Their mission is to make a healthy body, mind and spirit through their Christian principles. Their main focus in on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The reason I chose YMCA is because I try to live a healthy lifestyle and as that is their mission at YMCA it will be interesting to see what I will learn when I volunteer. Before the experience I thought I would volunteer by fundraising for a cause they support or help provide services in the gym. I also thought I might work with customers in the front desk. I was hoping to work with the children in the sports teams to help coach and teach them more about the sport.
It all began when my tutor informed us that we have to find our work
