Literacy is a resource that most and everyone depends on to succeed in everyday life. My experience with learning to read and write wasn't as fascinating as most common people. In my years of schooling reading has always been the subject that makes me procrastinate. I take my time doing assignments and my mind still wonders to create a good writing response. Till this day I still strive to do better and push myself and I go and find help so that my essay receives the proper grade. I still haven't learned the proper fundamentals on how to write good literary responses or essays . It all Begin once I made it out the eight grade and things became harder because I entered the next phase of my education ‘High School.” I felt it was the time that I could grow and my interest in writing would become a lot stronger. It all came down to the school year and nothing changed. I just felt every teacher would give the same instructions on how to write a essay but never told us how to properly break down my thoughts on what were the key points in my essay. So then it would lead up to me procrastinating on my work. Procrastination is a big obstacle that I need to overcome. I only procrastinate on all my writing assignment because there were many thoughts in my head that I could not put into one paragraph. So it lead up to me just putting all my assignments off until later closer to the writing assignments due date. In my high school experiences with writing I lacked bring my
Taking control of procrastination is something I constantly find myself fighting with. Some helpful tips that I just finish reading include breaking large obstacles into smaller ones. Breaking a large task into smaller assignments seems a lot easier than tackling a large one head on. Another helpful tip is finding a quite place that does not distract you from your studies, while taking one or two breaks in between. One other helpful tip that I find myself doing from time to time is reminding me of the consequences of not completing the task at hand. Take this Team Assignment for example. By not completing this assignment, my fellow team will not receive a passing grade. By identifying good behaviors it will help you to fight procrastination.
Procrastination is a problem that many people have, but through work can be overcome. The website gave me the useful tip of starting in small, manageable steps towards
I have never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people tend to misunderstand my point if it is written.
Literacy has an attribute that includes reading and writing, and is used to communicate, learn, expand your knowledge, and share your thoughts. Literacy is something you learn growing up in your schools, your homes, and throughout your community. The primary source of knowledge, scripture, and language is literacy. These sources are in our everyday lives, whether we are reading books, on the internet, or learning at school. Reading and writing are an essential in our lives; you are able to compose your own writing into art, poetry, or stories. Throughout my life i’ve ran across teachers who have proved to me that reading and writing is an important essential in our lives, therefore we should at least feed our brains with knowledge, and be able to write a scholarly essay. Throughout the essay I will be talking about my literacy experience and how I struggled, but sought help from the people in my life, and realized that literacy was an important asset in my life.
One way I could overcome procrastination is to have a planner that is “…an electronic calendar on your phone… (pg., 26). This will help because I am always on my phone and It will notify me when I should be doing my homework, instead of me writing on a paper planner, and forget where I put it and have to spend my time looking for it this will save me time and I will be able to actually catch up with all my work because I usually don’t like using a planner but an electronic one could fix that

The inevitable had happened; I, as a small child, was demanded to read. A little antisocial human being launched into a world of, at first, difficult words and lengthy phrases. While words and literacy were forced into my mind, I had reluctantly begun the adventure to enjoy and accept the art of literature. Later however, my hopes and dreams were crushed to pieces by a gruesome teacher with an interesting form of a so called “grading policy.”
If I could describe my relationship with reading and writing it would most likely have to be, improving. Of course I would assume the same happens to all students that their reading and writing skills improve as they continue with their education. For me reading has been a passion, so my reading skills are pretty advanced and I can say I am able to read well. In my case, being a child of two Hispanic parents, I do have a slight accent that can get in the way and make my reading a bit rough. Usually it is not so bad, only on certain words that either I do not know how to properly pronounce or certain letters that my accent acts as a physical barrier where I have to sound it out more carefully or work around my accent. While that is the #1 major setback I have during reading. Even with that setback I can still say that I am confident in my reading skills, reading at a well speed, improving, reading various books all that combined allows to be able to read almost anything. What I do enjoy about reading is that I see it being able to bring myself into that world that the author is writing about or to envision the story they’re telling as a movie. I like the idea of just sitting back or laying down with a good book for hours and getting deep into whatever I am reading. Personally once I pick up a good book it is usually hard for me to put it down without the paranoia of not knowing how it ends will eat me up and I usually finish a book within a few days.
As a reader and writer I always faced given assignments with the intent of doing exceptional jobs and take a sense of pride in my work to complete my tasks. As a reader, I will bore myself through out an entire book and realize I didn 't understand a single thing. Although as a writer, I can go on for so long losing myself on a topic because it feels more interactive. Reflecting on my experiences as a reader and writer have been very bold, I never really found a joy or an interest to become the exceptional student who stands out amongst others because, I always felt ok with myself and my results with the way I did things.
If you ever want to learn about procrastination, take up an exercise regimen or even better, take up writing. Writing requires deliberate effort to focus, keep still, and keep at it for hours together to come up with something devoid of clichés. There is one cliché for you. Of course, mastering the syntax, semantics, and tricks of the language, and holding it all in the head can be daunting, even for Hercules of a writer.
English has never been my strongest topic nor has the writing process been easy when faced with writer block. This challenge made writing difficult at times in where I was unable to think what should be written next. In this portfolio, I include a variety of pieces in the growth in my abilities of overcoming this challenge as a writer. As I reflect back at the end of the semester on my work in the writing 01 course, I am able to see clearly how much have improved as a writer and display my growth. I have learned about myself in term of weakness and strength and learned from them. In this portfolio , I tried to show the presence of the different style of work I completed and the peer editing of this semester. And how the feedback that I receive
The first memory that comes to mind when I think about literacy, is when I listened to books that my mom was reading when I was little. I will sit next to her, hoping to help her say the words that were written. Developing our literacy is something that takes a lot of time and effort.
All throughout my years of schooling, I’ve had just about, one paper that was about one page long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it was due.
I grew up in a household where knowledge is everything, and I received a solid foundation in the reading and writing basics from the time I was three years old. The biggest motivator I had during my reading experience was my mother. My mom played a humongous role in teaching me the necessary materials to use on my reading journey. Her main goal was making sure that I became exposed to the concepts of reading and writing before I entered school. Although reading and writing were taught in my early school years, my knowledge base and love of these subject areas comes from my mother. Thus, I credit my mother with teaching me to read and write.
This course has expanded my knowledge and view of reading and writing vastly. Following each paper, reading, and class discussion I learned more about myself as a student, and the world as a whole. I have found the books Rules for Writers and Ways of Reading thoroughly helpful throughout the course. This class entails a variety of aspects of the problem-posing concept of education; it truly involves the students and teaches them to think, read, and write individualistically, analytically, and clearly.
