When I knew that one of my classes would be a writing course I must admit it was reason for some concern. I recently finished my Bachelor’s degree and had to write many papers. Every word of every paper was a struggle. As I looked through this course I am certain it will be invaluable to meet my goals.
My overall goal for this class is to improve my written communication skills. I speak well when face to face, I love talking to people, I have no problem talking one on one with people or in a group setting. However, I struggle when putting words on paper, writing does not come easy for me, I struggle with Grammar and with what and how to write my thoughts. I do not expect to improve to the level of writing a book but would like to improve

This course will guide me to develop better writing habits. I will reach this goal by taking the time to use the proven process of writing, instead of just sitting down to write and start forming my papers without first outlining the concepts that I will be covering in the paper. This habit will take some time to develop, but if I use my new habits with every paper I write they will become habits to last a lifetime. I believe, by learning the writing process, this class will give me the confidence I need when putting ideas into words on paper.
I also see in the modules a review on methods of note taking. I do take notes now, but I am not very proficient at it. I would like to improve my note taking skills, especially when listening to lectures or speakers. When I attend conferences I do not take adequate notes to remind me of what I learned. I also know that good note taking when reading will save time when reviewing what I have read. As I am learning this skill I plan to practice by using it in my classes and in my readings, but also I will practice while listening to sermons at church and when attending
Every semester I start out telling my self that I have goals. Last semester I made goals in which some I did achieve and others not so much. I found that goal setting is just apart of the process that allows me to be productive in my college career. I believe that some of my goals are not always realistic and often times I find myself trying harder to reach goals. Typically it leads to what I believe to be a burn out. Burn out, for me is when I can no longer focus, find interest in class or projects due to tiredness trying to reach “Goals.”
Throughout this course, I was able to assess and evaluate my weaknesses and strengths in writing. This class has truly brought out my ability to write, a skill I did not believe I had. I now know what it takes to become a college-level writer. Also, at the beginning of the course I did not particularly enjoy writing. Now, however, I have a greater respect for
I immensely struggled when writing. Taking my scrambled thoughts and uncoordinated analysis and converting it into clean and understandable words on a page was arduous. I could not express my thoughts in proper academic format. I understood the importance of writing to every subject. It was essential that I learn to condense my ideas and feeling into coherent written word. After much debate, I decided that the best way to improve my writing skills was to take an advanced English course.
I want to be able to have a wide range of vocabulary and be trained to write a paper for any subject or matter. I think being a successful writer will really help better my life. I hope this writing course advances my free write, and personal writing the most. I plan to give this course 110% to help become a successful writer for the future. I want to be able to look back at my writing and be proud of my work and possibly inspire people to want to become a successful writer. I want my weaknesses in the past to dwindle down. I know it will take a lot of time, but I’m willing to do it. I hope to be able to write a 500-700 word paper in no time without any struggle. For the future, I want my grammar to be as it should on my level. I think my writing will improve over this course, and I just can not wait to see it
I have never been an excellent student and perennially struggled with English, Math, and Science growing up. These subjects would cast a pall over my day and school work. Anxiety would well up inside of me which often resulted with me passed out across my desk sleeping through parts of class. When I would return home at day’s end, I rarely completed my homework. When I did try to complete homework, it often ended in tears of frustration or the hurling of a book across the room. Taking this class has helped to quell a portion of that anxiety and frustration. It was a grueling class, seemingly impossible at times, but taking this class has given me the confidence to know that not only can I finish the class if I work hard but can also excel! Writing is something that I will exercise throughout my college curriculum and my life. It will help to convey my ideas to the instructor, peers, bosses, and co-workers. In my college curriculum, it will also show my instructors that I’m learning the information provided and how to apply that knowledge appropriately. It will allow me to complete assignments, discussions, and reports, and I will also apply writing in basic communication when necessary.
Attitude: Writing has never been my thing, at least when it comes to essays and research papers. It can take me awhile to get my ideas flowing. I’m very excited to complete this course so I can become a better writer. Although I often don’t like writing research papers or essays, I don’t feel that any personal feelings towards writing will have any negative effects on my quality of work. I’m looking forward to what this course has to teach me.
When writing, I try to gather as much information about the topic, I am getting ready to discuss before I start writing. What that does is it helps me get organized and have a greater understanding about what I will be writing. Not only do I try to gather as much information, I also try to organize myself and my writing by starting an outline to help me stay on topic. As a writer, I am not always as confident as I wish to be. Some improvements I hope to gather from taking this class is being able to keep my writing flowing and sounding efficient. When writing has positive flow and understanding, people are more likely to stay engaged in what they are reading. Transition words, phrases, and sentences is also something I would like to improve.
Writing is something that I’m not good at because for some reason it is difficult for me to organize my thoughts coherently. One of my major weaknesses is that when writing I have trouble expressing my ideas well enough to ensure that my writing will accomplish the intended purpose. As a matter of fact, I tend to use a lot of words when it is not necessary. What I expect from this course is that I will help me improve my writing effectiveness. I’m looking forward to develop the skills that will allow me to have a better writing, and even enjoy from this activity. Furthermore, the course could allow me to improve other writing skills, such as critical
Writing is a skill that needs to be practiced. Before this class, I didn't care about the writing because my high school teachers didn't care about my writing, as long as I turn a paper, I would be fine. Now, at the end of my Comp 2 class, I can assure I have improved my skills. From simply using MLA 8th format to writing an ethnography, this class has helped me get a more advanced writing style to accomplish the requirements that higher education requires.
In this course, I enhanced my reading and writing skills. Reading and analyzing stories allowed me to become a better critical thinker. Beside, Learning to review and identify errors with the help of my peers and my instructor improved the quality of my writing. Also, I gained valuable practice in evaluating the credibility of sources that I would include in my writing. Finally, I also want to thank this class since I become more confident in my writing and my reading abilities
After much thought, I came to the conclusion that there was not just one significant learning experience from this course. I enjoyed the variety of readings and the conversations with classmates. Developing papers to convey my thoughts and provide supporting evidence, has helped me become a better writer. Though, I am far from being a superb writer, this course provided the opportunity to further develop my writing skills.
While taking this course, I realized that I enjoy researching for what I am writing about, but I have a difficult time putting my responses into words. I also learned I over-summarize everything the articles that I am reading and responding to, but I tried to combat this by explaining more in-depth. However, by doing the assignments in smaller parts, compared to only doing a draft and then a final paper, I found it easier to elaborate on the topics in my writing. I also learned the importance of revising papers, especially peer revisions because other people are able to catch mistakes you might miss or help you better explain an idea if they don’t understand, something I definitely need and utilized throughout this course.
Before entering this class I had moderate writing abilities and poor analyzing abilities. Since this is a writing class I knew it would consist of a lot of writing. However I didn’t expect this class to be so focused on research. So from this class I learned more than just writing and research abilities, I absorbed the capability to read better as well as reflect.
Learning from Indroduction to University Writing, sounds like it is a lot of work. Since I have been out of school for a real long time. It is an interesting, and challenging class.
I believe I have achieved most of the course learning objectives as I pass this class with a c or higher. I undertook the writing process we learned in class and it has helped me become a better writer. Before I entered my freshman year of college I didn’t know how to write. But as I undertook the writing process I was taught in class I now know how to write. First when it came to writing my assignment papers for my class I grabbed a notebook and did prewriting . I brainstormed a list of ideas for my papers. I then had a plan on everything I was going to write about. I then sit down and write my first draft. I make sure my first paragraph is a strong
