In my life of 20 years, I have purchased many objects such as toys, books, clothing, shoes, etc., but it particularly technological devices are what that is embedded within my life. I am one that has become dependent on technology as it’s part of my daily experience. I check my emails, social media, assignments, on a daily basis and without the technological devices I own, it couldn’t imagine my life without it as it has been with my life for many years. Technology has really made things easier in my life but perhaps not for some. Like my parents, they had a difficult time figuring out how to use their device.
The one device I wouldn’t imagine without today would be my Laptop, my MacBook Air. My MacBook Air was made by Apple, a well reputable technology company that innovates new technology every few months. During my years in high school, I had worked during the weekends, long hours, from morning to midnight, to save enough to purchase my own laptop. In the year 2013, my last year of high school, I finally bought it, my dream laptop. I had saved up more than enough, to buy this laptop, and some for my future education. I choose this laptop because of its features. It’s lightweight, and powerful. Enough to satisfy me at school, at home, at wherever I bring it to, unlike my desktop computer. I had hoped this laptop would last me until the end of my university education, and it has almost done so. I am currently in my 3rd year, going to my 4th in the upcoming fall semester.
More than 50 percent of people in the U.S.A have some type of technology device either with them or at their house; maybe even both. Daily life has changed so much over the years due to the technological advancements. Technology has changed many things about communication skills, entertainment, and even activities.
In today’s world, many people believe that technology’s sole purpose is to draw young people away from the real world and reality. Just because you do not realize it, it does not mean it is not happening. If you think back to when you were younger, was technology the same as today? However, technology is forever changing and improving. It affects everyone, not just the young group of people. Technology changes our brains, souls, and our very being. Once technology sucks you into the whole of its essence, you will have a hard time changing your life style.
In today’s society, consumers are looking for a product that is willing to do it all. A product must fit both professional and personal needs. There are many products out there but three of the most common include, Apple’s Macbook Pro, Apple’s Iphone 6, and Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3. All three of these devices have their advantages and disadvantages, but the one I feel is the greatest buy is the Mac Book Pro by Apple. It is important to compare the similarities and difference of all three of the popular devices.
In the modern day, we use technology to every benefit we can and I am not ashamed of that; my opinion on the use of technology (specifically computers) is that in quantities of moderation, technology can exponentially expand the growth of our civilization. For my second cultural object, I chose my home computer because I can spend upwards of hours upon it each day, primarily doing work or visiting recreational, social websites and games. The renowned scientist Carl Sagan once said, “We’ve arranged a civilization in which most crucial elements profoundly depend on science and technology.” This quotation blatantly applies to modern day society, where it is nearly impossible to communicate with people without an email or cell phone. The laptop is also an immense part of my culture regarding schoolwork, where I need the laptop to access the websites teachers use. With so many hours per day enveloped the laptop, it has grown to be a large part of my daily routine and culture overall.
Technology aids us in almost every task, from doing to work to traveling to distant worlds. It’s an interesting set of advancements that have produced some pretty amazing results. Much of this information is available for the taking, free of charge. Never before has humanity had such unfettered access to such a wealth of information. But it’s really the everyday gadgets and gizmos that impact our personal lives the most,
Electronic devices are consuming the lives of everyday people. Everywhere you look someone will be locked in staring at their phone screen, unaware of what’s happening around him or her. Electronic devices have become a daily necessity for people. Electronic devices are a controversial topic today. While some believe that electronic devices are harmful, others believe these devices benefit society. In, “A Thing Like Me,” Nicholas Carr brings up the extent on which humans depend on devices. The dependence on electronic devices has consequences. The consequences that come from electronic devices are in takes away from face to face communication, the devices cause distractions when driving which can lead to serious injuries or even death. Electronic devices also have changed the way of learning, people no longer feel the need to learn when typing a question into Google gives people the answer. Electronic devices are a part of society and can cause negative impacts in peoples lives everyday. People do not realize the consequences that electronic devices bring into their
When her family got their first color tv, her father was so happy because now he could see the different football team’s colors when he watched the game. But no one really sat in front of the tv all day, because there weren’t many shows on. She then got her first computer in her house in ‘98, a little after she had her first 3 sons. She thought it was so neat that she was able to email her old high school friends and reconnect with people who she wouldn’t have ever talked to again. Of course, her boys liked to play video games, but they were largely outdoor people. Today she mostly uses an iPad, for business, research, and the occasional Netflix binge. Sometimes when work is getting hectic, she says, “It helps stop my mind from thinking about everything at work.” She can use it as a stress reliever, or a distraction. But even then, sometimes she feels that she has to pull herself away and take a walk. At work, she notices that when people are in the waiting room, they no longer reach for the magazines that have been set out, they are all on their phones. She deals with lots of parents at her job, and she realizes that parents seem to be using technology as almost a “babysitter”. When their toddler gets fussy, their mom hands them her phone so that they have something to do. That is starting the dependency from an
Kumar, Jagadesh M. "The Malady of Technology in Our Lives: Is Anyone Listening?" Go.galegroup.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Apr. 2015.
In her recent book Updating to Remain the Same: Habitual New Media, Wendy Hui Kyong Chun looks at how modern technological innovations force us to adopt new habits. She claims that technology has become more habitual than advanced and that its users are no longer bargaining on tech’s emancipatory qualities, rather it has become something that is part of our everyday lives that is often overlooked. Chun’s writings made me think a lot about technologies role in my life. I am huge advocate for becoming less preoccupied with our devices (first/last thing we see in a day) but I am not critical of others who are dependent on technology simply because I do not know what their needs are. It primarily comes down to the way I choose to go about my life
In this era we are a technology advanced society, being only 22 years old I have seen many technological advances. Growing up I had access to T.V., when I was younger I remember going to my grandparents’ house and they had back and white T.V. When I hit middle school I given my first cell phone it was a flip phone that had no games on it. In my house we had the big box T.V. with a VCR box and the huge computer with the big monitor; we not call it the dinosaur computer because it’s so outdated. As an adult I have a touch screen phone with access to social media, games, etc., I also have a flat screen T.V. and laptop. Regularly, I use my phone and laptop it’s practically become my life, sometimes I’m glued to the screen. I believe I’m pretty comfortable with technology; I have a basic understanding of how it works. I do like trying to understand new
This is how it feels to have no electronics. The reason I have no electronics is I am grounded. I have nothing to watch, no one to text or talk to. All I can do is read or play a board game. I felt like I was in the olden time or that I felt like I was dead.
As far back as I can remember my family and I have taken advantage of technology. The types of technology have changed over the years, along with our usage and dependence on it. Technology is a fundamental part of our lifestyle, including both work and play. What is interesting is that we also have many friends who use very little technology in their day-to-day living. This drastic difference makes one wonder how necessary the technology really is, and whether or not our dependence on it is healthy in the long run. It is really easy to just get caught up in using technology without thinking about the pros and cons.
Before I write about a day without using technology, I want to be clear of some points. First of all, I born on August of 1971. My life was simple and did not have a lot of technology. I lived my childhood in a small town called Kafr El Dawar. Kafr El Dawar is a small town near Alexandria, Egypt. My parents had a beautiful house. We had a big tree with a lot of birds on it in front of my house. Inside the house we had a white and black television and a radio. The T.V only had two channels. We had a lot of time for talking, going to the Coptic Church, going to school and playing with neighbourhood friends in front of my house. My father was a teacher, he also studied music for four years in college. He always spend a lot of time in the Coptic Church, teaching them religion songs. He used to take me and my sister with him in the church’s choir. I had a beautiful and nice mom, I had a lot of uncles, aunts and cousins. We spent a lot of wonderful time with them. I enjoy the sunset and the sunrise from my balcony and hear the birds in the early morning. If anyone asks me what is the best days in all my life, I will say my childhood times. I was the happiest girl in the world. Back in the day we had time for everything socializing. I have only one sister but I have big family, we used to spend times with a lot of uncles, aunts and cousins.
As I sit here and recall my last nineteen long years on this planet and my various interactions with different mediums of technology, it has become very obvious to me that I, like most people where I am from, have had really no major interactions with technology compared to others in my age group. I sit in coffee joints at night and watch people become more introverted than a turtle, ducking into their little shells of technological safety. They look at you through their faux, so-call trendy DKNY knock-off glasses, dressed in their Abercrombie clothes, hiding behind nothing but the glow of a laptop or in the corner talking to someone on their cell phones which just happens to match what they are
Technology occurred before the human kind and it has improved people’s lives positively and negatively. The influence of technology is really great that it has absolutely changed our lifestyle. Computers, the Internet, Gadgets all these things have transformed our working system completely and our productivity has increased unbelievably. As everyone knows with every positive that have to be a negative, technology is really great, but it also has a huge affected every part of family life. We are spending more time indoors than we are outside. The time we spent on the computer, watching TV, and other electronics drive is about 8 hours a day. During this time, we are usually spent alone and not with the rest of the family. With all the electronics drive, we currently have, we don 't need to get out of the house anymore, you can do everything from the luxury of your home. Almost everything revolves around technology now. Don’t get me wrong, I love computer and all the technology we have now, with every new invention coming out I have them all, Apple Watch, iPhone7 Plus, iPad, new Apple TV, and new headphone, most of my product is around Apple because I love the company they produce a good product, good design, and it last for a long time. On June 29, 2007, about 9 years ago, when the first generation of the iPhone came out, people will wait outside the stores to buy it. The estimated sales of this first generation iPhone were around 250,000 and 700,000 units in the first weekend
