My personal project was focused on the families that have been placed in Women’s Shelters. The families placed aren’t established there for no reason. All of them have been victims of domestic violence, and they’re all trying to escape from the abuse as best as they can. The organization itself housed a total of 290 people in 2013, but there are so many people in the world that are still suffering from their significant other abusing them. My focus on the project was mainly on raising my own self-awareness about the families in the organization. Domestic violence is an issue that many people are aware of, yet a majority of people don’t seem to know the consequences that are a result. I think this issue isn’t one that should be mitigated. It deserves to be made a fuss about, because domestic violence is a significant topic that’s worth discussing.
The area of interaction my project fits in with is community and service. Researching about the Women’s Shelter is allowing me to expand my knowledge of the community around me. It’s so easy to live a life that revolves only around myself and my close friends and family. Researching about this topic has expanded my perspective of the people around me. By choosing this specific topic, I was able to not only benefit myself, but the community around me. I went to the shelter to help with my advisor’s advisory class, and I thoroughly enjoyed doing that. We made dinner after school, then we went to serve them on February 12th. After we
Mr. Giang will continue to lead the expansion of the men’s group for this project. Ms. Bui has over six years of experience in providing case management to the Asian community around domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of crime. Ms. Bui will provide technical support to Mr. Giang and the men’s group if any issues arise regarding available resources and will also help to navigate any triggering that may occur through the work of the men’s group when discussing child sexual abuse and other forms of violence. Ms. Bounkeua has over five years of experience supervising community programming and will help to ensure proper and timely grant reporting and the meeting of grant deliverables. Ms. Lau has over ten years of non-profit accounting experience and will support all fiscal reporting and tracking of this project. Finally, participants of the men’s group will help to engage and recruit other Asian men to this initiative and will work as community leaders to disseminate the work of this group across the Pan-Asian community of Bernalillo County. The men currently engaged in this group include university students, community leaders, young professionals, and
On 03/18/2017 at approximately 2132 hours, I was dispatched to 8340 Rd. 46 in the County of Montezuma, and State of Colorado for reports of a domestic disturbance.
Did you know that every 9 seconds a women is being beaten or assaulted? It is known that around the world, at least one and every three women has been beaten into having sex or some rudely thing in her entire lifetime. There are many cases where the abuser is a family member. Domestic violence is that the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sex crime, and different abusive behavior perpetrated by an intimate partner against another. It is a virulent disease touching people in each community, notwithstanding age, economic standing, race, religion, status or academic background. Violence against girls is usually amid showing emotion abusive and dominant behavior, and so is a component of a scientific pattern of dominance and
and I learned some new things. Whenever I think about domestic violence, I always thought about the violent relationship between intimate partners. This has reminded me that it can also be between people of any form of relationship. Reading about the Bridging Families and Communities program has allowed me to see another perspective on the issue. There are many cases similar to Jane’s, where she is a victim of domestic violence, and she has a child with her abuser.
Like so many of the topics studied by investigators in our research institutions, domestic violence does not happen in a vacuum. In an attempt to better understand DV as it occurs in the real world with the accompanying compounding issues which often occur with DV (e.g. addiction, financial problems, health issues, language barriers, etc.), I propose a two-part research project. The first part will focus on undocumented DV survivors and their experiences and journey toward seeking assistance/resources for DV. The second part will focus on the perpetrator of DV and attempt to identify typologies of batterers. Taken together the hope is that this research project will provide a better understanding of domestic violence as experienced in the community.
For this Social Commentary Paper, the prompt is to choose two songs from different genres that are centered on the same social issue. After much thought, domestic violence was chosen. According to the Department of Justice, domestic violence is the abusive behavior from an individual within a relationship, resulting in physical or emotional harm to their partner. This includes, but is not limited to, hitting, shoving, name calling, or undermining an individual’s sense of self-worth. First, Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” (May 1, 2012), from the album of the same name, is sad and dramatic with its deep meaningful lyrics (ITunes). In short, it is about a young girl who lives with her abusive alcoholic father. Without going into much detail, she hopes her father and the memories of him will vanish. Secondly, Green Day’s “Pulling Teeth” (Jan. 28, 1994), from the album titled Dookie, is about an abusive relationship where the woman beats up the man. Although scared of the abuse, the man continues to stay in the relationship as the woman says multiple times that she loves him. Both songs mentioned above have a very deep relationship between the music that is being played and the lyrics that are being sung. This connection will be discussed in much more detail in Section D.
The domestic violence field at first was, was a field I never saw myself interested in. Now, after the trauma in my past I have met some incredible people who work in this field and perform amazing work by helping these people. My therapist Erin Scholezenski, is a trauma therapist that only works with children and adults that have suffered trauma through domestic violence, self-harm, rape, verbal and physical abuse and major trauma events such as the Aurora Movie Theater Shooting. She has her own private practice in Parker, Co and is the Director at Aurora Mental Health Center off Parker and Hampden. Going into this interview, I went in knowing some background of domestic violence but not knowing how this field can impact the therapist that is helping these clients get past their trauma. I wanted to know how domestic violence has affected her life and why she stopped working with perpetrators. I made this my main focus of the interview.
I would shut my eyes because I knew what was coming. And before I shut my eyes, I held my breath, like a swimmer ready to dive into a deep ocean. I could never watch when his hands came toward me; I only patiently waited for the harsh sound of the strike. I would always remember his eyes right before I closed my own: pupils wide with rage, cold, and dark eyebrows clenched with hate. When it finally came, I never knew which fist hit me first, or which blow sent me to my knees because I could not bring myself to open my eyes. They were closed because I didn’t want to see what he had promised he would never do again. In the darkness of my mind, I could escape to a paradise where he would never reach me. I would find again the haven where I
There are many different types of domestic violence. Physical abuse is the most obvious form, but this is not to say that outsiders always recognize it. Generally, physical violence causes bodily harm, using a variety of methods. Slapping, pushing, throwing, hitting, punching, and strangling are only a few methods. An object or weapon may or may not be used. There is not always physical evidence of physical abuse such as bruising, bleeding, scratches, bumps, etc., therefore, absence of physical marks does not necessarily mean physical abuse had not occurred. Physical abuse sometimes escalates to murder (Morris and Biehl 7, Haley 14-17).
Topic- Remedies for domestic violence in India India is a male-dominated country where women have to face various violence in the society from the ancient time. As the world is going towards technology development but women are dominated from ancient times by un-natural sex, abuse and domestic violence. Rapes and murders have been so common now-a-days. Other violence are like harassment, assault, and chain-snatching, etc have been involved in the daily routine in the modern Indian society. Violence against women has grown to a much extent in the free India.
The first kind is called physical violence. Physical abuse, including assault, is the intentional use of force against a person without that person's consent. It can cause physical pain or injuries . Physical abuse includes:
The purpose of this study is to see whether or not domestic violence causes a damaging affect on children. The study will included criminal justice students in College and the age range will be between 18 and 23 years old. The method is qualitative and will be an interview.
Other things that I found interesting was (Newdestinyhousing.org) reported that 33.33 percentage of homeless people in New York City were survivors of domestic violence. (Newdestinyhousing.org) One does not think of things like that and just judges people who are homeless. They assume homeless people are lazy, but in reality that isn’t true at all. I stumbled upon (Woodbridgedvrt.org) and it laid out the different types of violence and it truly shocked me. (Woodbridgedvrt.org) So many people assume women can “just leave.” This is a horrible myth. If you have a child, how can you just leave and let your child live on the streets? You simple don’t and you toughen it out. I didn’t realize the various types of domestic violence and this project truly educated me on the various types. If I grew up a portion of my life in a domestic violent house and still had no idea on some of these things, how could people that didn’t grow up in that environment understand? That is why I chose the
“Every year in the United States there are over 3 million incidents of domestic violence. That means that every nine seconds a women is beaten by her domestic partner” (Findeley). There are many women that stay silent when being abuse by their partners. The consequences of staying quiet when obtaining abuse can be dangerous and can also lead to death. Many women do not recognize the importance of the fact that there is in speaking out if they are being abuse by their partner. No woman should take domestic abuse by their partners. Every woman deserves a healthy relationship; A healthy relationship involves trust, respect, and consideration for the other person. Domestic abuse has gotten worse during the past years and is still rising up. One can see that domestic abuse can occur everywhere. Domestic abuse is considered a crime and woman should not keep silent when being abuse.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. I come from a place where over 70% of black men are raised in a fatherless home, where domestic violence is something that is a way of showing love. Drugs and alcohol are encouraged or pushed on you to do. Most of the uses are raised in the street, because they are the only men in our life that will pay us some attention.
