This course helped me develop a deeper understanding of my faith and has helped to me progress along my spiritual journey. Before this class I did not really know that much about Christian history and how it developed as a religion. Now, I have learned more about they history of Christianity and better understand it. I also learned more about the Bible, especially the Gospels and the New Testament. I never really knew the differences between the four Gospels and how each one was interpreted and just understood that they were different books of the Bible. Now I understand how each are different from one another, especially the Gospel of John. Also I now know more about some books of the New Testament. I haven’t read the Bible in it’s entirety …show more content…
I thought it was very inspiring how they kept persevering and believing even though there was a high change they could be tortured or killed for their beliefs. They were extremely brave and are an inspiration to me. Leaning about the early persecuted Christians has impacted my spiritual journey by showing me it is important to be brave and to fight what you believe in. With the early Christians being persecuted for their beliefs, it made me think about what I would do if I was put in that situation. Something else that impacted me was the Crusades especially the Children’s Crusade. I think that the people that fought in the Crusades had so much faith and hope that they would willing walk hundreds of miles to then fight for a city crawling with enemies. Many people died and they died trying to get Jerusalem back for all Christians. The Children’s Crusade inspired me because parents willingly sent off their little kids to go fight in an army. To me that sounds crazy for parents to send their small children off to a war that hundreds of adults were dying in! The parents, along with the children, had to have a lot of faith and hope in their children. Learning about the Crusades has impacted by spiritual journey by showing me that it’s important to have faith and hope even during your darkest
While reading the Spiritual Disciplines Handbook, I did not expect to come across a spiritual discipline that would be a perfect combination of my own idea of spiritual formation, and a wonderful way to connect with the Lord. What I mean by this, is that I was wanting to create a gratitude journal, but I wanted it to be deeper than just a list of things that I was thankful for. That is why I fell in love with the idea of writing responses to the questions that were posed in the Spiritual Disciplines Handbook, but still taking a few minutes to write a list of things that I am grateful for! A journal like this is also a great way for me to see the strong points in my day or week, and the areas where I need improvement. Since journaling has always
One of the only thing I really didn’t like about the course was the use of the textbook because I felt that a lot of the information in it was pretty general information that most college freshmen should already know. I did like that there wasn’t a huge amount of pressure put onto our use of the text book though, so that it wasn’t going to be detrimental to our grade if we missed a reading assignment here or there. Also, I liked that most of the days after we had a reading we would split into groups to discuss the reading so that if there was something that we didn’t understand it could be explained to us by one of the other students in the class. I felt that the powerpoints and presentations could have replaced a lot of the text book because they were much more clear and right to the point, it didn’t have any useless filler like I felt the textbook had.
Evidence has linked a strong relationship between spirituality and medicine. There is a positive correlation between a patient’s spirituality or religious commitment and health outcomes. A spiritual assessment as a part of a health assessment is a practical step to incorporating patient’s spiritual needs into practice. The FICA Tool and HOPE Questions provide serve to assist clinicians in the spiritual assessment process. By examining the research done using these tools, it has been determined that the FICA Tool is easy to use and provides basic data on a patient’s spirituality. The FICA tool is both reliable and valid. The HOPE Questions are
What is a bias and why is it such a relevant topic. A bias is an ignorance of a fact, perspective, topic, or cause that’s usually followed by arrogance or closed-mindedness. Throughout history, especially America’s history, women and people of the black race have been mistreated or misunderstood in some way due to biases. In fact, we know this from “An Address by Elizabeth Cady Stanton” and “The Souls of Black Folk: Of Our Spiritual Strivings”.
To say my faith life has been completely revamped in the last year would be an understatement. I had views and ideas about faith that seem somewhat vile to me know with the experiences I’ve had. From just lectures to the retreats my spiritual side has gone from that of a holiday catholic to a Campus Ministry Student. From little things to big ethic topics I’ve changed in a multitude of ways, my Spiritual Autobiography looks like looks like someone else wrote it compared to any year before it. I think faith is one of the most important aspects of our life and it took me until last year to realize it.
This semester of Christian Worldview has been beneficial for me learning more about all different types of worldviews. I started this class with a Christian background but a clean slate of not knowing what my true worldview really was. As I went through the semester, I gained tons of new knowledge to help me understand how my opinions matched with the different worldviews.
The topic of spirituality and religion is filled with much confusion. In most all religions, there is a greater purpose in which believers attempt to reach a better state of living, usually in death. The question then arises, how does one go about obtaining this better living? In the book Four Spiritualities, Richardson defines four main spiritual pathways: the journey of unity which pertains to jnana yoga, the journey of devotion which pertains to bhakti yoga, the journey of works which pertains to karma yoga, and the journey of harmony which pertains to raja yoga. Furthermore, he correlates four main Myer-Briggs personality types. With these four pathways and personality types, one can
I have to agree with you Kesha this course did shed light on and let us explore different worldviews than our own Christian worldview. It placed emphasis on how important it is for us to understand other worldviews in order to be able to get along with non-Christians. Our world has become a society of multi cultures, and in order to be able to understand and be able to communicate with these other cultures we need to understand where they are coming from. No matter what type of worldview a person has, each person has the capability of knowing right from wrong, and good from evil, and each person has value within themselves. As we go onto our future careers as Administrators we will need to fall back on what we learned in this class. It
Although this is my second semester at Liberty University I have already completed the APOL and BIBL course which are required for my degree. As this would conclude the required Bible courses, I just hope to gain knowledge of a different aspect of the Bible. From my experience from the classes I have taken with Liberty University this far I realize that knowledge of the Bible is expected and I hope this course sets me up with more tools to complete various assignments. Through my prior courses this past summer I gained a refresher on things which I learned throughout high school and this course is something that I have actually never taken before. With it being new I just hope it brings insight into topics that are current and hopefully I
Through OBU, I have learned what it means to integrate faith with learning. In each of my classes—whether it is The History of Western Civilization, English Composition, Physical Science, or Old Testament—I have learned more about the character of God. Because I have taken a wide spectrum of classes and been taught to think critically about those classes, I am better prepared to speak to anyone about the gospel.
Spiritual disciplines will prepare us for our journey in Christ. I feel if understanding correctly, the classical Christian Pilgrimage remind us that we all have issues requiring regular examination. In chapter eight, the classical Christian Pilgrimage tells us we are at different stages on the path of wholeness in Christ. However, in my thoughts some areas of our Christian journey we may be doing well, but in other areas we have not touched at all. Not to mention, these are the place we are not ready or capable of handling yet, however, as we mature in God and He knows what we can handle, then we are awakened. God awakens us to our true selves which have not been completely revealed. In reality, once we reach maturity to God, he reveals all that is hidden deep inside of us (the real us/you). By the same token, he let us see the inner behaviors, attitudes, desires, in fact how we measure up in them being Christ-like. I feel the awakening stage deals with the comfort of being set free of these issues that are holding us back also causing detours on our path to wholeness in Christ. Equally, the threat is being afraid to see who we really are; also how far from Christ-like we really are. We must first be awakened from our separation also alienation from God (Mulholland 79-82).
Theology 104 has really changed my outlook and views regarding systematic theology. I now understand more clearly that as Christians, in order to be able to accurately share our faith that we must all be a theologian to some extent. Looking at the totality of it all, the four religion courses I have taken since January 2015 have really expanded my views and understanding of what it is to be a Christian. Between Philosophy and Contemporary Ideas (PHIL201), Contemporary Worldviews (APOL 104), Survey of Biblical Literature (BIBL 104), and Introduction to Christian Thought (THEO 104), my understanding of the Bible and Christianity in general has increased exponentially. While my overall belief system has not been impacted, I now have a better
Last year, I took Karen Rieger’s class, “Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible” by Jeff Cavins. This class really opened my eyes! I finally got to see the big picture of the bible. Jeff Cavins presented the story of salvation from creation and the fall through the coming of Christ to the establishment of the Church. I love the color coded Bible timeline chart. It arranges the key people, places, and events of Sacred Scripture in chronological order.
Everything we’ve learned throughout this course has been interesting and important to me, but I realized that I had more interest in the discussions about religious
My faith journey has been challenged throughout my life. I have had many ups and downs, and many times when I questioned my faith. Although those times were rough, I found comfort in God and knowing that He is always there for me. One of my favorite quotes is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13. This quote got me through tough times when my faith was shaking.
