Learning Chemistry, Maths and Physics never got me tired. I’ve started to experience enthusiastic feelings towards those subjects during my high school as I was acknowledged to proceed with my upper school in science stream. I couldn’t agree more that being a science student is very challenging as it involves critical thinking which relates with the theories and practical. However, after a couple of months of learning, I came to realize that I have been intrigued by those subjects despite the challenging parts of understanding. Hence, I really look forward to further my studies in Chemical Engineering which involves deeper understanding of those subjects.
Out of so many branches of courses in science and engineering, Chemical Engineering has caught my eye. I strongly believe that our world in the future needs more Chemical engineer due to its unsustainable development. Our world today has made many modern inventions which lead to a more comfortable life than what it was before. Skyscrapers, transportation, mobile phones and thousands of sophisticated machines were invented to make life worth living. However, most people neglect the downside which may occur due to those

Chemical engineers play a vital role in the lives of everyone. For instance, they transform raw materials into something useful, analyse our food and purify our water for safe consumptions, generate electricity from fossil fuels, make plastics and most importantly make something more efficient which will have less impact to the environment. Without their hard work, a sustainable development is hard to be achieved. In 2050, it is estimated that the world population will increase up to 9.6 billion people. Of course, we never wished to see our future generations’ life being threatened by the long haul unfriendly impacts created by us. Our acts determine the future. Therefore, I want to be one of those people who can change the
goal in this life is to leverage the chemistry, engineering and pharmacy principles in the
The subject of Chemistry is one that deals heavily with a comprehension of the natural world and the individual details that make up an entire system. I was introduced to this course my sophomore year as I took on Honors Chemistry. As a student who grasps material best with hands on projects, this class fueled my excitement to be able to understand a complex subject using planned out lab procedures. From titrations to calculating the amount of copper in a solution, Chemistry gave me an opportunity to bring my own speculations into a class rather than being told directly what is occurring in a scientific process. The fascination of this class is what directed me to take AP Chemistry my senior year of high school. Even with the difficulty of
Out of all of the skin care products in the world, your bathroom cabinet needs to be filled with products researched and designed by me. When I entered high school, I discovered my passion for selecting lip sticks, lip glosses, lotions, perfumes, and makeup foundations. You name it. After learning about the connections between the information in my chemistry class and these items, a light bulb went off! I maintained an A average in chemistry throughout the whole year! Additionally, in 2014, I became a student in the Academy of Engineering and Technology, which also heightened my interests in chemistry. In a science fair at that academy, there was a chemistry course where we made colorful slime, and during that process, I learned that I get an adrenaline rush when I am mixing different chemicals together to see what the outcome is. Majoring in chemistry at Norfolk State University will definitely prepare me for a very successful future in chemistry! My ultimate goal is to conduct research and development for chemical cosmetics. I plan to obtain employment at the greatest companies in the world such as L'Oréal and Avon.
Until about 2 years ago I was not quite sure what path I would choose for my future career, let alone what path I would choose when I arrived at college. I tended to be adept at subjects such as science and mathematics throughout my high school life, however I was never particularly fond of any one subject in particular. However, that changed my senior year of high school when I enrolled in AP Chemistry. I was intrigued by chemistry when I attended the pre-AP Chemistry course, however I was not particularly interested at that moment. However, AP Chemistry came with a plethora of hands-on experiments and procedures that existed to illustrate basic concepts of chemistry. Although it may sound mundane, I was amazed at some of the concepts we learned being implemented in front of our eyes, and I was especially
This process of manufacturing and my eventual love for mathematics and the sciences enthralled me into engineering to better improve the method of production of all products being commercial or military. The concept of discovering new, or refining old techniques have always interested me. The discipline of Chemical Engineering had been sparked in me during the years of high school and the application of physics and chemistry and the new theories that have arisen. The idea to research a better combustion engine or any engine at all, the production of the next big technological based material called graphene that has not yet had a very good production method for large, high quality sheets and other underlying enigmas in chemical engineering have aroused a mighty interest into this
My fascination for Science led me to take up the science stream in my higher education. Also, participation in several science projects and expos during my school days made me seek clarity in the way I perceived concepts of basic sciences. This abiding interest helped me to score first class with distinction in my Board exams (10th & 12th).When the time came to choose an undergraduate program, one of the most
It all started when I was chosen to join an invention competition that was held in Indonesia. I had the opportunity to expose myself to the full range of the chemical and engineering courses, in which it helped to reinforce and solidify my intense interest in Chemistry. During the competition, I had to convince the
My decision to pursue undergraduate degree in the United States was received with a lot of skepticism by my family members. Because a career in chemistry is unfortunately not considered as rewarding as compared to careers in medicine or business. Successful chemists are not very heard of in Nepal, and this stems from the fact that not many institutions in Nepal have opportunities for research in Chemistry. My deep interest in this field and a fair bit of persuasion helped me convince my parents to support me in my educational endeavor and therefore I came to Wesleyan College to study chemistry. My desire to become chemical engineer after attending college for two years come from my exposure in this field during an internship at the University of Minnesota over the summer.
Therefore, the concepts make sense to the knowledge I previously learnt, especially when combined with the other sciences. The more I learn, especially this year in the university introductory courses, the more exciting and interesting chemistry becomes. This excitement of making sense of my previous knowledge needs to continue, as I told myself, and I would need to take chemistry as my major to do so.
Being a first generation college graduate, I epitomize the dreams and sacrifices made by my parents. They made it their life ambition to provide me with the best resources within their capacity. In my journey as a Chemical Engineer, I have experienced and appreciated the magnificence of Chemical Engineering - nano-scale to macro-scale, be it working in an R&D facility or professionally working as a Process Engineer in the Refinery.
Despite the ever-widening scope of undergraduate university courses, chemistry means a lot to me as it is undoubtedly an influential and essential part of daily life. My zeal for chemistry has stemmed from watching how it interlinks with our lives so much. As I was growing up, my curious nature often led me to wonder why leaves turn orange and red in the autumn or what makes glow sticks glow? It fascinates me that the genetic makeup of humans and other species is down to four base molecules held together by hydrogen bonds. Current global issues in our world such as world hunger and the need for changes in the legislation of legal highs have massive implications for millions of people worldwide.
My interest in engineering came from being fascinated with the field of medicine and healthcare. From a very young age I have been exposed to many types of healthcare products such as blood glucose monitors and hemodialysis machines. Until my father was diagnosed with renal kidney failure, i had no idea that there were over 8 dialysis centers in the hampton roads area and that so many patients were going through the same treatments as him. I plan to use my skills from my chemical engineering background to make more economically friendly and efficient machines for dialysis patients to improve their quality of life in order to give them more time back into their lives instead of being hooked up to a dialysis machine for over 12 hours a week.
Also, in order to be able to succeed in the field of chemistry, a chemist must be able to perform some advanced tasks in the computers and electronics domain, with the pace in which technology is advancing within the scientific field there is little room to be left in the technological knowledge of any potential chemist that aspires to be successful. A successful chemist is often the one which is more skillful, the more skills that are possessed by a chemist the better they are likely to perform. Just to list a few skills that are required in order for someone to be able to become a successful chemist, a chemist must be able to identify complex problems and review related information in order to develop an in-depth understanding of potential solutions, also be able to use various scientific rules and methods to be able to come to a solution to various
“Chemical Engineering is not an easy major (at all), but if you can make it through to graduation day, you 'll be in demand” (“Chemical Engineering”). A chemical engineer converts substances at tremendous sizes to form new substances or energy for the overall advancement of human life ("What Is Chemical Engineering?"). I have chosen chemical engineering as my future career because the way things are made has always intrigued me. I yearn to comprehend the finite structure of the products we use in our day to day lives. Of course, knowing the career I would like to study is not enough. I must understand what type of schooling and skills will be required, the income and future of this career, along with the experience and attitude I will need to succeed in this field.
The idea of seeing a project come to life is what provokes my desire to become an engineer. In the past, engineers have created the greatest historic innovations such as health technology. My passion for chemical engineering is seeing how the fundamental theories of Chemistry, Physics and Math can be applied to create an innovative industry. In very concrete ways, engineers
