By the time I started the first grade of school, my interest of our past had already sprouted enough to be easily cultivated by teachers and docents on school field trips to museums and local historical sites. These enthusiastic journeys were shaping my personality to learn more about different cultures. I was fortunate to take a holiday in Europe between my sophomore and junior year of high school. More importantly the trip began and ended with a stop in New York. Once there I could see firsthand, from the Bowery to Harlem, all the different cultures I had only read about.
