My understanding of social justice
Social Justice is a predominant issue throughout our world. They are fair laws that all humans should naturally have although some are deprived of the treatment that these laws offer. Social justice means that all people no matter who they are should be treated equally regardless of what colour, gender, religion or background they belong to. It also promotes freedom, open-mindedness and equality amongst us.

What is the issue?
I have selected the social justice issue, Asylum seekers and refugees. The difference between the two is Asylum seekers are people who have left their country, but their claims have not yet been evaluated. Refugees on the other hand, are people whose claims have been approved and they are given shelter and food, usually in a detention centre. This social justice issue addresses the many people who flee their third world country for a safer home. They become stuck in limbo and wait for long periods of time for their claims to be evaluated and have no idea how long the process will take, sometimes its years. Focusing on Australia, this issue affects the many people in our country because the money needed to support, house and feed these refugees comes out of our taxes. The money to build and run a detention centres e.g. staff wages, catering for detainees and staff, medical attention, general upkeep, etc. comes from the Australian budget which ultimately depends upon tax payer funds.
