In “My Wedding Campaign” and “Banga Banga,” exotic romance and racialised masculinity are the two main elements in both films. “My Wedding Campaign” tells a story about two South Korean rural bachelors travel to Uzbekistan to find brides, but one of them ends up falling in love with his translator who is originally from North Korea. This story reflects the situation of many other young bachelor farmers in Korean's rapidly aging countryside today that they have everything necessary for living except a wife. Likewise, the male protagonist falls in love with a female foreign labor immigrant in the movie “Banga Banga.” The male protagonist is South Korean, but he lies to the owner of the industry that he works for and other foreign labors about his true identity, which indicates that the job market in South Korea is rather competitive and cruel not only for foreign labors but also for local citizens. The male protagonists in both movies are the images of loser of urbanization and industrialization, this kind of weaken their masculinities. However, they have finally become heroes in front of foreigners in both stories, which generates their masculinities. Therefore, the masculinities presented in the films “My Wedding Campaign” and “Banga Banga” are formed and strengthened under the multi-ethnicized and globalized environment in South Korea, and this masculinity is also racialized. In the movie “My Wedding Campaign,” the characteristics of the male protagonist
One of Director Park Chan Wook’s most renowned works is the film Oldboy (2003). At face value, this film appears to be a regular mystery-thriller film. However, after further analysis, there are many parallels to contemporary Korean history and society. These parallels, or allegories, become more apparent upon review of the film. The film contains references to Korea’s tumultuous history and contemporary culture, highlighting the multiple disappointments felt by the Korean people (Seth). The main character Oh Dae-su also stands in for the “average” Korean citizen while his adversary, Lee Woo-jin, represents upper class citizens, or chaebols, in Korea. After analyzing these points, this paper argues that Oldboy does in fact serve as a socio-political allegory for problems faced in contemporary Korea. Problems that are addressed include democratization, class structure and privilege, capitalism, and the importance of power and money in Korea (Kim).
In the film, Asian American masculinity must be erased to facilitate the love and theft of black masculinity
For my entire life, I have been raised to be very accepting of others. A group of people in particular that I have been raised to support is the LGBTQ community. This is especially because of my uncle and his partner. Sadly, they passed away a few years before I was born. However, that does not stop me from feeling a connection to them or continuing to support them and others like them. Furthermore, I have other family members and friends that are part of the LGBTQ community as well. Thus, adding more dogs to the fight.

Another significant place is boutique “Paris” that sells U.S. and Western Europe cosmetics and accessories. Before working at the boutique shop, she was too timid to say the word “kiss.” McHugh says, “Tellingly the film imbricates her consequent exposure to sexuality outside the traditional familial structure with more generalized representations of South Korean culture’s complicated encounter with the West” (11). After Son-young gained recognition and become a modern woman with western clothes, her behavior is started changing as an active woman. She visits Chun-ho to learn how to dancing, and asks the love. Also, she easily makes the customer as a date partner. All these things represent pessimistic features of women’s entry of public affairs.
Neo-programs such as k-pop and K-drama change the view and the stereotype of the elder generation Asian immigrants. Mentioned in article on page333, Korean drama portray a positive image of "fragile Asian female", blooming and versatile besides sexuality. Moreover, Asian male's masculinity is fully portrayed with handsome looks, ambitions and passion for love. The kindly romance in the public media present audience with consolidating Asian groups' adherence towards ethnic media consumption and spread out in college communities. Placing those gender norms in a less discriminating way than it used to be present on large screens, for example, hero in K drama always contrary to Tao from Gran Torino, Korean dramas provide a brand new image of Asians towards
It is quite interesting to know the history where is the over-sexualization of Asian women came from. This idea was the result of US wars in Asia and Asian women have to provide comfort to men in the army. It is sad to see that some of the Asian women back then have to be forced in prostitutions or willingly do it because poverty. Furthermore, the hyper-sexualization of Asian women that has been presented in films created bad image among Asian women. Our book Asian America Through the Lens listed Madame Butterfly and Miss Saigon (1991) as examples where a soldier has a relationship with Asian prostitute. The history about how Asian women become a sexual symbol will always be around, and the persistent portrayal of this in films can negatively
Over the years, mainstream media, such as television shows or movies have become very popular. It is something that many people turn to for entertainment and is something that is constantly developing. However, what many people disregard or accidentally look past when enjoying these plot twisting, mesmerizing and incredible creations is the hidden and indirect messages. The film Mulan, which was produced in 1998, may seem like a movie that simply demonstrates a young Chinese women going to war for her father’s sake and coming home as a successful female hero, when in fact, it portrays much more. Underneath the storyline and general message of the movie, Mulan constructs the identities of young, Chinese, middle class women as always needing to be in a heterosexual relationship. This normalizes heterosexuality, race and gender roles.
The sun shining in front of us was radiantly beautiful on the Sunday morning of March 20, 2006. To the right of us was a lake that seemed like a black void, the sun bouncing off its surface as we sauntered down the pavement of the famous Lake Las Vegas. The spring air was crisp with a soft breeze hitting us, making our hair and dresses flow in the direction of the wind. Walking ahead of me along the gorgeous view was the wedding processional, consisting of the groomsmen, bridesmaids, and maid of honor. I followed after them, my small feet doing their best to catch up as I was forced to wear an uncomfortable pair of high heels. My small, five year old figure was leading the way for the most important woman of my life, nervousness and happiness all occurring in her at once as we were getting closer to the destination. Once the destination would be reached, a moment that changed my family’s life forever would occur; the day of my parent’s wedding.
I stood shaking as the words just spoken began to resonate. In five minutes my photographer would be back to retrieve me and take me downstairs to see Nick for the first time. Well, it wasn't the first time, but it was the first time on our wedding day. See, I had been imagining what this moment would feel like for four years; daydreaming since day one about our big day. It's not that I was nervous about my decision to get married, but I was overwhelmed by the significance of this day in our lives. Everything had to go perfectly.
The sun was shining and I could hear the birds singing. As I was sitting in bed listening to Darry making our breakfast which was eggs and chocolate cake of course. I am not exactly sure where soda is. He is probably with sandy getting ready for their big wedding today. Ever seens sandy's parents gave them permission to get married soda has been all sunshine and rainbows.
