Introduction How might the United States look and be different if the Native Americans were able to remain where they were and were able to continue their lives as they were? America would look and be very different but there were things that led to this not being possible because of the removal of most of the Indians. Such as, The Trail of Tears, The Battle of Wounded, and The Chief Joseph Surrender Speech. All theses things played a role in the removal because they either got rid of the indians, killed them, or left them with very miniscule amounts of land. The Battle of Wounded Knee In January 1889 the Native Americans started a dance known as the ghost dance. The ghost dance was started by a native american named Wovoka. He started …show more content…
They didn’t have enough food for everyone and people were starving. He stated that his people didn’t have any blankets and were freezing to death. The speech word for word is : “I am tired of fighting. Our chiefs are killed. Looking Glass is dead. Toohulhulsote is dead. The old men are all dead. It is the young men who say yes or no. He who led the young men is dead. It is cold and we have no blankets. The little children are freezing to death. My people, some of them, have run away to the hills and have no blankets, no food. No one knows where they are--perhaps freezing to death. I want to have time to look for my children and see how many I can find. Maybe I shall find them among the dead.Hear me, my chiefs. I am tired. My heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.” It is sad to think that the English were attacking the native americans this much. I think Chief Joseph surrendered because he didn’t want his people to suffer any more. I think if Chief Joseph hadn’t surrendered things would have been much worse. I think if he hadn’t surrendered, the English wouldn’t have stopped attacking the native americans. I think the English would have killed all of the native americans they could

Native Americans have existed in the different regions-the plains, mountains, marshes- of the North American continent- long before the United States existed. Yet, most were not treated with the respect and dignity that the white American settlers were given. Viewed as outlandish and savage by white settlers, series of negotiations to “correct” the Indian way of life were implemented- through forced relocation, war, and assimilation into white culture. Those who stood up against the American government were viewed as beacons of hope by their fellow Native Americans. Many Native American traditions still exist today, but unfortunately most of them have been lost along with their people.
Baby Blues, the most common and mildest form of mood disorder can last up to two weeks after having a baby without the mother needing treatment.
For the purpose of this project, our group has decided to focus on Native American culture and their non-verbal communication patterns. We chose to focus on Native American culture due to their unique methods of communication. What makes this culture so distinct is the way in which they encompass their values into their communication methods. Their communication methods are unlike most cultures and are even utilized within Western culture in modern day.
Purpose: After listening to my speech, the audience will be more educated on Texas’s roadside attractions, as well as relate to the sites I will discuss in my presentation.
1. This informative speech on “The Cause of Homelessness “is very Inform able and worth listening to, because in today’s economy it could be you or me. Some seem to think homelessness is choice. I find this speech relevant to the world I live in today, due to the high unemployment rate, declining job market, and the economic hardships that families are enduring. This topic is not a broad one, but yet can be spoke of in depth due to the fact I see many homeless people but never thought it would be me until I seen a family friend who has lost everything, this is what made me more aware that it is not just a choice and any day it could be me. So when you see

troops were on the pine ridge reservation in South Dakota to quiet the ghost dance disorder of 1890.After the Indian police killed chief sitting bull while trying to arrest him on December 15th on the standing rock his hunkpapa band of the Lakota tribe grew agitated and troop reinforcements arrived. When 200 of the Indians fled southward to Cheyenne river military officials feared a hunkpapa miniconjou coalition. There was about 38 of the hunkpapa joined a more militant group of 350 or so miniconjou ghost dancers led by chief Bigfoot.
Chief Joseph's speech "An Indian view of Indian affairs" is a transcription of the speech of the great Indian warrior, based upon his alleged statements about the state of Indian-white relations. It is thus a second-hand source to some degree, because Chief Joseph never learned to speak English, and his speech is only transmitted through a translation. Joseph mourns the duplicity of the white man, defends his tribe's actions, and mourns the death of his people. He portrays his people as a people of peace who, after they realized that resistance against the white man was futile, chose to give up their guns. However, they were displaced, time and time again, after the white man grew greedier and desired the profit and gold that could be gained from the territories where his people lived.
Speeches are an iconic and widely used means of expression for our political leaders, particularly when discussing issues of importance such as Indigenous Australia. Paul Keating’s ‘Redfern Speech’ and Kevin Rudd’s ‘Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples’ are the two political speeches which I will be analysing in this paper.

Like a coin dropped between the cushions of a couch, traditional oral storytelling is a custom fading away in current American culture. For Native Americans, however, the practice of oral storytelling is still a tradition that carries culture and rich history over the course of generations. Three examples of traditional oral stories, “How Men and Women Got Together”, “Coyote’s Rabbit Chase”, and “Corn Mother”, demonstrate key differences in perspectives and values among diverse native tribes in America.
Create a 5-6 minute presentation using PowerPoint visuals. Make sure your PowerPoint follows the guidelines discussed in class. The purpose of the presentation should be to inform the audience. Your presentation should reflect a topic, theme, or issue relevant to your major. For ideas of topics, you may consider looking at issues of Crains’ Chicago, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, cnn.com, The Huffington Post, NPR.org, Slate, Wired, or industry-specific papers/journals in your area of study.
Between 1869-70, Tävibo, a Northern Paiute became known as the first Ghost Dance prophet. He was said to have visions and was able to communicate with the dead who said the white colonists would disappear and peace was in the near future for all tribes. He taught his followers a ceremonial circular dance and which is how the movement seized its name. News spread of Tävibo and Ghost Dance from Nevada to California and Oregon. The movement failed to gain more momentum with the lack of results that did not occur.
The native american presentation that happened in class was quite informative. The things that one might learne were quite interesting. For example, the stereotype slide was informative. One seeing the peter pan part may be genuinely confused as to if they were singing or worshiping Cthulhu. Another part that was informative was the video about the treaties. The original treaty, the Two Row Wampum belt, was particularly interesting because it is a treaty and symbolic. The Iroquois confederacy segment was equally fascinating, as it explains a possible origin of democracy in America. Those are some of the many pieces of information in the native american slideshow.
