“Navajo Creation Story” The power in The Navajo Creation Story belongs to the four Holy People who were called mysterious beings. They appeared four times over a four day period (Franklin A: 28). These beings wanted to create more people, a community, which led to the creation of the First Man and First Woman. The First Man and First Woman became leaders as they learned “how to live a good life” (Franklin A: 29). In order for their family to live a good life the family had to grow, so after four days there were children. At the conclusion of the story, the Twins became leaders who saved the people from Monsters. In terms of transgression in this story, The First Man comes to mind as he became angry with First Woman and “left her and went to the other side of the fire”(Franklin A:30). In today’s terms, they had a disagreement and he left and took all the other men with him. They believed that they could survive on their own as did the women. Eventually, the men and women realized that they need to be together not only for companionship but to survive. Another transgression occurred following the reconciliation of First Man and First Woman as there were three women missing. A man and woman and a godlike creature called Coyote, searched for the women and found them in the four chamber dwelling of the water Monster. Coyote took one of the children of the Water Monster with him as they rescued the women. The aftermath caused great harm to the people as the Water Monster
